Chapter 5 - Novelty

Lax is now getting interrogated by a member of the Crime Investigation Bureau. After I started thrashing him at the party for a justifiable reason, Emilia stopped me from thrashing him any further. After all, if I accidentally killed Lax during the beatdown then it would damage the reputation of the Crown Family.

I was seated on one of the seats outside the interrogation room, witnessing Lax's interrogation. Rain was with me. It had just been 5 minutes since we came here, and she was gazing at me as if I had done something horribly wrong. My parents also wanted to attend, but I declined. I instructed them to finish the Congratulatory Dinner and then come here.

I was ready to say something when the door of the observation room (from where we were watching the interrogation) opened. A charming young man, around the age of 17, entered the room. He wore a golden T-shirt and black pants. He carried a pistol, which was attached to the right side of his waist in a leather gun carrier.

"Greetings, Ladies and Gentlemen. My name is Ross Thoumeax, and I am the Chief of the Crime Investigation Bureau." He welcomed us happily.

'Chief of the Criminal Investigation Bureau? That's absurd.' I was thinking after his introduction when he gave me an amused smile. "I understand, Lord Amon. It seems silly, but you may ask Empress Rain." He spoke cheerfully. Now, this guy was certainly fascinating. He was able to accurately analyze my thoughts with a single glance.

"That is true, Amon. He is the Chief of the Crime Investigation Bureau, although temporarily." Rain explained patiently, then turned to Ross. "It seems you've been doing well, Ross." Rain smiled. "I do, Your Highness. Thanks to your generosity, I've been doing well. And we've apprehended a large number of corrupted individuals in the last week. It is fair to assume that the rate of corruption will dramatically decrease." Ross explained calmly.

"What about Lax's involvement in corruption, Ross?" I stood up from my seat and inquired calmly. "About that, Lord Amon-" Before he could complete his sentence, I interrupted him. "You can address me as Amon, Ross. There's no need to be formal with me." I replied quietly. I simply don't like the idea of someone appreciating me because of my sister or my mother. I want to be respected for my personal achievements.

"Alright, okay! I will address you by your name, Amon." Ross chuckled amusingly. Before he could finish speaking, a woman entered the room, seeming fatigued from running. "Where's my husband?!" The woman spoke frantically while attempting to catch her breath. "Kate, He's currently being interrogated due to Amon's Request." Rain rushed to Kate, Lax's wife, and consoled her.

"Here, have a seat. You ought not to be running like this when pregnant with twins." Rain talked gently and patted Kate's head in a comforting manner. "But why did Lord Amon request an interrogation?" Kate inquired anxiously. "My husband hasn't done anything wrong, I can guarantee!" She was almost in tears. If only she knew what her husband had done to her.

I got up from my seat and approached Ross. "Ross, I have a plan to end this interrogation immediately and prove that Lax is guilty," I whispered to him. Ross glanced at me as if I had said something ridiculous to him. "But how?" He replied with a whisper. I smiled at him. I'm not sure what sort of smile that was, but it appeared like Ross was rather disturbed by my smile. "You know, you have quite the manic smile, I must say that." He whispered.

I looked back and saw Rain still soothing Kate. Perfect; they haven't noticed us whispering to each other.

After our short talk, I stepped into the interrogation room with him. Lax's face was looking quite… awful. It appears that I went too far with the thrashing. Well, given what he did in the story, I took it easy on him. Lax glanced at me perplexedly, but I could see it was a farce because it appeared strange for him to be perplexed. His body language suggested a murderous intent. The officer questioning Lax rose from his seat and bowed to both me and Ross.

"So, what did he say?" Ross asked calmly. "Sir, Lord Lax did nothing wrong. I interrogated him using numerous tactics, yet he still denied all of the allegations brought against him by Lord Amon." The officer explained formally and saluted like a soldier.

The officer had utilized a device known as the 'Universal Lie Detector', which was capable of detecting whatever deception it came across. This world's technology is far more sophisticated than that of my previous life. In the current world, our advanced technologies from my previous life would be a laughing stock. The combination of sophisticated technology and magic is... extremely dangerous to say the least.

"Lord Lax…" I began speaking quietly. "Congratulations for having twins." I approached him and patted his shoulder. Everyone in the room was taken aback by my actions. "Uh… thank you, I guess?" Lax responded perplexedly. "It would be a shame…" A grin began to emerge on the corner of my lips. "If they were to be killed in an 'accident,'" I remarked.

Amon's words struck horror into the hearts of the individuals present in the interrogation room. Even Ross was horrified. What Amon was saying wasn't just an empty threat but a promise. A promise to end the lives of two unborn babies. His whole demeanour, his tone, and body language… none of them had a shred of deceit in them. Amon had meant what he said.

"Amon, you're out of your mind! That's way too extreme even for a bluff!" Ross held Amon by the collar of his shirt as he pushed him to the nearby wall. Ross had an expression of disbelief, mixed with fury. "I am being completely honest, Ross. And I can just do it right here. Right now. And I've perfectly set the stage as well. If, within 5 seconds, Lord Lax doesn't tell us the truth, then the ceiling of the observation room will fall on Miss Kate." Amon explained calmly. His voice was laced with a sort of malice which frightened Ross.

'Amon isn't even bluffing at this point… He really set up a trap like that…' Ross thought as he stared at Amon with a shocked expression. Ross let go of him, and he rushed towards the door but when he tried to open it, he found out that it was locked.

Lax was frozen in terror. He wanted to speak but no words would come out of his mouth. "5…" Amon started counting in a calm tone. Before Amon could say four, Lax got up from his chair and lunged himself at Amon's feet in a sort of begging position. "I will tell you everything! But please, don't kill my unborn sons!" Lax cried as he pleaded to Amon.

After Lax confessed his crimes, His wife was shocked and broken… The man whom she trusted and loved so much did such horrible stuff… She was sitting beside Rain, staring at the ceiling with an empty expression… Rain was trying her best to comfort Kate but it was all futile. Kate was completely hopeless and broken from the inside…

Lax was now being escorted out of the interrogation room by an officer. "I wish to know something…" He spoke in a silent tone. "How did you know… that I was involved in stuff like this, Lord Amon…" He looked at Amon with a silent curiosity.

"Your body language, Lord Lax. No matter how good of a liar you are, your body will somehow find a way to snitch on you. I merely observed your body language properly, and now, here we are. As for your infidelity, I interrogated Priestess Holy before the Duel for Succession, but she doesn't have any recollection of it because I used a Memory Spell on her." Amon explained calmly. "Your involvement in various crimes… I knew about it thanks to the girl that you were going to kill at the Congratulatory Dinner." Amon continued his explanation. "And when I threatened to kill Miss Kate, I was just acting. If that had failed, I had other tricks up my sleeve to make you confess your crimes."

After Amon's explanation was finished, Lax stared at him for a few moments and then laughed amusedly. And then afterwards, he was taken away.

'Amon Von Crown… What even are you… To be able to take down a criminal like Lax Goodwill so quickly… Not only that, Lax has managed to outwit some of the best detectives of Crime Investigation Bureau… and yet, Amon so casually beat him…' Rain contemplated to herself as she stared at Amon in disbelief. She couldn't believe anything that was happening.

"Good job, Amon." Ross complimented Amon in a friendly manner. He was quite impressed with Amon's intellect and cunning. In a sense, it was pretty impressive. "By the way, I'll be attending the same academy as you." He smiled at Amon after saying that. "I wonder what you'll do there."

Kate looked up at Amon with a blank expression. "Lord Amon… what will happen to me and my unborn kids…" She asked in a hollow tone. "You'll be granted a nobility status of your own, Kate. After all, you haven't done anything wrong-" Rain started speaking calmly and before she could finish, Kate got up from her seat and slapped Amon.

"You're the reason… You took away my happiness from me…" She stared at Amon with a cold expression. Amon, holding his cheek, looked at Kate with a calm expression. Before he could say anything, she turned around and left the room. Ross and Rain were shocked by this behavior of hers but Amon wasn't. He had anticipated something like this to happen. After all, She was deeply in love with Lax and was extremely devoted to him. If she suddenly found out that her husband had done something wrong, she wouldn't be able to accept it. Rather, she would blame the other person who had claimed that her husband had done something bad.

'She is just going through that phase…' Amon thinks to himself as he sighs.

"Father, is this really necessary?" I asked in a slightly annoyed tone. "Why do I have to get a weapon for myself? I can use Magic to protect myself." I stared at Arnold with a blank expression. Apparently, We were both going to a Weapons Shop to purchase my weapon which was quite unnecessary. It had been a day since I managed to rat out Lax. This action of mine will affect the story drastically but I don't care about that. After all, my purpose is to live a happy and fulfilling life in this god-awful hypocritical novel.

"Yep, It is. I wanted to buy you a weapon as a reward for managing to expose Lax of his crimes." Arnold spoke happily as he caressed my head. "I could've just used one from the Armory of the Crown Household, Father." I reasoned calmly and hearing my reasoning, Arnold flicked on my forehead. "Stop being so close-fisted and cold, Geez!" He huffed as he spoke those words in a slightly upset tone.

I let out a deep sigh as I realized that trying to push away Arnold was just asking for more headaches in the long run so I gave up on trying to convince him to not buy me any weapons. "Fine… Let's go and get my weapon… Dad…" I looked at him with a calm expression. After hearing my words, He hugged me tightly and started to adore me aggressively.

I was now waiting at the counter of the 'Iron Blood Weapon Shop', as the receptionist had gone inside to fetch some of their finest weapons they've made in the past week. As for Arnold, He was having a nice conversation with the manager. Basically, I was left alone with my thoughts.

Something has been bothering me since the time when Lax was arrested. I started doing an internal monologue of what had happened so far. 'Now that I think about it, Ross Thoumeax wasn't supposed to exist in the novel. Hell, everything that has happened so far isn't supposed to exist in 'Forbidden Love of Two Maidens'… And the fact that my memories have been tampered with doesn't make this any better.' I glanced around at some of the weapons on display while continuing my internal monologue. 'The Plot of the Novel has been altered significantly as Lax was supposed to be captured by Sophia, not me. And Lax's capture was the trigger for the romance between Sophia and the Female Lead. But my intervention prevented it.' I sighed after that sentence of my internal monologue. 'That's a good thing.
