Chapter 21 - Chapter 21: Laying low

We have been fishing for weeks now and accumulating more money. It's been probably over a year now by my estimate, as I can walk and talk more better. My parents are delighted that I am able to do so, thanking Valeria (Vi) for teaching me how to talk. When I called my mother Mum Z and my father Papa K, they laughed hysterically then raised me above their heads while they dance inside the house. I laughed with them.

Later, my Father took Vi to the Adventurers Guild in town and while leaving me with my mum. Some of the fishing kids stayed with her to keep me safe and guard me.

When they returned, my father told us the good news that while Vi won't be an adventurer as she is too young, the guild would be able to train her with basic magic and basic sword skills as an apprentice. The guild is strict regarding people they train and accept within their ranks, you should not have any criminal records, misdemeanors or issues with the town folks to be accepted. You also need to be at least 15 years old to become an adventurer.

Vi trained daily in the Adventurers Guild. I checked her status while she is sleeping at night. I can't believe her stats is as low as mine.

Here is what it shows:

Hidden Skill huh? I wonder what it is.

Suddenly, the dogs barked outside, so my parents woke, my father took the shovel beside his bed and my mom took the rake with her and went outside.

They looked around carefully and found no one around.

"I think we are being monitored." I told Vi telepathically. "We should really find ways to defend ourselves."

Give me a few minutes, I'm sure I could think of something."

Vi looks worried and nodded weakly.

I sit down at the side of the bed, and pray.

I got a respond, like an idea to my head. The message was to not use magic in public and not stand out by speaking in public as well. Act like a little kid and do nothing extraordinary."

Makes sense. Act like you belong and be plain. Don't stand out. Same as the Peacekeepers.

"Thank you for the message Lord."

I went back to sleep while my parents take turns in guarding the house throughout the night.

(To be continued.)
