They had reached Howlsreach sooner than he had expected.
The moment they crossed the borders, Ayziel ditched Oren and the rest of the third watch knights after they dealt with Jakar's dead body and headed straight to the castle. His father would want a report of all the executions Ayziel had carried out and he needed to rest before he was summoned.
Ayziel made his way up the winding staircase of the castle, ignoring the startled stares of the castle guards and the pining looks the maids sent his way. He made it to the west wing, feeling every bit like he looked--battered and bruised. The west wing was empty as it had been every day since his sister's death. His father had made sure that Ayziel was the only person on the entire floor by sending away the guards, maids and Ayziel's cousins to a different wing. He had even turned a room on the southern wing into a library so no one would go near Ayziel.
