When someone is in a state of despair, what do they crave the most?
To escape? That's painful.
To face the problems head-on? That's also painful if done directly.
The first thing someone thinks about when they're in a state of despair is other people. They crave someone to give them the strength to face the problems they're facing. Encouragement, support, help, even a loving embrace.
They can get all of that from someone they believe is the one they need most at that moment.

An unbearable longing made him remember his little sister's face. Guilt came back at the same time. However, he didn't cry because he was used to this sadness.
But then, someone slowly opened the door.
