Maria walked around, looking at the faces of all the children playing in the playground, one by one.
Slowly but surely, she made sure that none of the faces there had her brother's face.
Her face furrowed, as she realized that her thoughts were correct. But she was still doing this useless thing even though she realized that her little brother couldn't possibly be among those children with happy smiles.
Although some of the children looked gloomy, they were there and they stayed there. Unlike little William, who didn't even have the courage to show his face around and only looked from afar.
William, noticing his sister's unhappy expression at the situation, understood and smiled. He was happy to be considered someone special, but also sad for hurting his sister's heart. However, his common sense stopped him from comforting her.
