Chapter 13 - Aaron Knoxx: The Enforcer

Frederick Gaspar was just done scolding his enforcers, their leader still on his knees, praying that they won't be killed.

"Get out of here, and don't bother coming back without this Kane's head!" His voice echoed through the halls, as the three men got up and bolted out of the throne room.

One week later...

The news of the end of the Sowei Revolution had been printed in newspapers all over Europe. Even in the valleys of the Serbian province of the United Ottoman Provinces, where one Casey Kane had set camp.

The man was ecstatic to see that his campaign was successful, and that the monarchy was now gone for good. But his main concern was than now he could move back to his home town, after 7 long grueling months of barely making the cost of living.

Word went around the area that Casey Kane was finally going back home, and it even reached the ears of the old king's enforcers.

Aaron Knoxx, age 27, born and raised in the fairly recently formed United States of America, was a skilled gunslinger who had come to Europe with hopes of using his skills to get a good job, and so far, he had been very successful. After working with the Austrian Monarchy for 3 years straight as a member of their enforcers, he became the leader of the 3 person team, replacing the old leader Joseph Gray, and even going as far as to say that he wasn't an enforcer, but rather The Enforcer.

His right hand man was Craig, a mysterious yet loyal man, whose background was largely unknown. Rounding off the enforcer trio was Joseph Gray, who even after being demoted was still loyal to the King, mainly due to his high salary. Despite working with Aaron, though, Gray heavily disliked the American for taking his position as leader.

The three had been hiding out in the sparse plains of Serbia waiting for just the moment to strike. They weren't receiving newspapers or letters, in order to remain hidden from the local police force, and had no contact with the rest of the world, so they were completely unaware that their employer had been killed.

"The plan is simple, boys." Said Aaron. "We go in there now that he's about to leave and doesn't expect it, and we shoot his darn face off! Understood?"

"Yeah." Craig replied with his monotone voice.

"That is a horrible plan!" Yelled Gray. "How do we know when he'll leave in the first place?"

"Word of mouth, doofus! How did I ever allow myself to take orders from you?"

Gray glared at his superior, but Aaron simply laughed it off.

"Just get on the carriage ya poser." He finally said, pointing towards a carriage.

The three got on and started moving towards Kane's camp atop a hill.

"Go faster you idiot!" Gray told Aaron, "He could be running laps around us with how slow we're moving!"

"I can't make the horses go any faster you moron!" Aaron scolded him. "They'll just die on the spot!"

"Yeah." Craig added.

Gray frowned, but stopped talking. With minimal conversation after this point, the three reached the camp, seeing it completely abandoned, except a table and some chairs.

"I TOLD you we should have gone faster!" Gray said the moment they saw the remains of the camp.

"No worries. We can check around the camp to see wat route he could have taken, so we can catch up to him later." Aaron told his team.

"If Gaspar doesn't behead us first..."

"Quit yer yammering, Joe. We're the enforcers, this is child's play."

"Doesn't seem like it."

"Oh enough! Just go and search that table or something while we look around for some more clues." Aaron ordered Gray, who grumbled some nonsense and approached the table. On top of the table was a newspaper. The man opened the newspaper and stumbled on a very interesting article. It read:

THE END OF THE SOWEI REVOLUTION

During King Frederick's stay in Sowei City, Soweiland, the populous decided they had enough of the made king, and rose up. The revolution lasted merely a day, with only around 200 casualties, however one of them was Frederick himself, whose body has yet to be found. The new King, Francis, had this to say.

"And good riddance! The man was a psycho. I plan on ruling firmly but fairly now that he's gone. And a message to all police forces out there; my dad's 'enforcers' are still out there. If you spot them, arrest them immediately and send them back here so they can be trialed!"

Attached to the article was an image of the enforcers themselves. Gray saw this and was shocked. If his employer was dead, that means he wouldn't get a penny! But it also means he could finally ditch the others.

"Oi, Joe! What's taking so long?" Aaron called out to him. Gray quickly tossed the newspaper aside.

"Nothing!  I'm coming..."

"We found the horses' footprints. That means he took the northeast path. He probably stopped in the next town for supplies, and we can catch up to him there and get supplies of our own."

"Excellent news!" Gray said as he grinned.

"Boy what happened to ya? I've not seen you this happy in years."

"Yeah." Craig added.

"Oh I'm just glad we're finally going home."

"Yeah..." Craig said, a little suspicious.

"Don't you look at me like that, Craig!" Gray said, defensively. "Let's just go before he get's too far."

After half an hour of travelling, the three finally reach the next town.

"Alright guys, let's spread out. Kane should be around here still." Aaron said the moment they stepped off their carriage.

"Sounds good!" Gray said.

"Yeah." Craig agreed.

And so it was. The enforcers all took different paths, but rather than looking for Kane, Gray decided to look for the police station. After five minutes he found it, and simply waltzed in.

"Hey isn't that an enforcer from the paper?" said one cop when he saw him.

"Yeah dude, that's him." Said another cop.

The entire room of police officers then raised their guns towards him.

"Guys, relax. I'm here to help you!" Gray said, with a smug grin plastered on his face.

"Speak now before I put a hole in your abnormally large forehead!"

"My forehead isn't large!" Gray spat at the random cop. "I am offering to show you the location of the other two enforcers..."

"You'd rat out your partners? That's low bro."

"Do you mind?" He told the random cop, very annoyed. "In exchange for a ride home. It's a free paycheck for you guys, and free revenge for me. What do ya say?"

After a while, Craig and Aaron met back up where they left their carriage. Unbeknownst to the, the area was surrounded by hidden cops.

"Any luck?" Asked Aaron. Craig nodded negatively.

"Aw shucks. Well, hopefully Joe had better luck than us."

"I was indeed very lucky." Said Gray as he walked up to the others. "NOW!" He yelled, and around 10 officers came out from the bushes they were hiding in and handcuffed Craig and Aaron.

"You asshole!" Said Aaron. "You sold us out! Craig was right..."

"I simply didn't need to do this anymore. Fred is dead, so I wasn't gonna get paid, anyway."

"You'll regret double-crossing The Enforcer!"

"Stop talking and move!" A random cop told him.

After that, they were taken to jail, where they were greeted by the warden.

"Ah, Aaron Knoxx and James Carter. You know you've been wanted for a while right? It was very dumb of you to show up in the center of town." He said.

"Wait wait wait- Who's James Carter?" Asked Aaron, very confused.

"Your acquaintance?" The warden replied, even more confused.

"But his name's Craig?"

"My name was never Craig." Said Craig.

"Really?"

"Enough of this nonsense, take them both away!" The warden ordered.

The two were put in different cells for security reasons. Aaron was put in the same cell with a guy named Carter Jeeves, who was very built and muscular, and was wearing a butler's attire.

"What's a butler doing 'ere?" Aaron asked his cellmate.

"I was doing some work for my boss, but I was caught. I've been here for a week."

"What kinda work could you have possibly been doing?"

"None of your concern. But I need to get out soon. What of you, lanky American? How did you end up here?"

"You don't know who I am?"

"No."

"Aaron Knoxx? The Enforcer?"

Jeeves just raised an eyebrow at him

"Okay I get the picture. I got blindsided by my partner. So much for that..."

"That's rough, buddy."

Then, as if no cue, none other than Joseph Gray appeared and stood outside the cell. He took a look at the inmates, Aaron giving him a deathly glare.

"I see you've already made friends, Knoxx. Good Much better than James in Cell Block C!" He taunted.

"You'll regret leaving me here, Joe! Mark your calendar!"

"Sure thing. I'll see you never Knoxx, I have to prepare to leave soon." He said, turned around and left.

Aaron thought for a second, then turned to face Carter Jeeves.

"You said you wanted to leave, right?" He asked.

"Correct."

"Good, now here's what we'll do..."

"GUARD!" Aaron called out, and the prison guard appeared.

"What you want from me, prisoner?" He askes, his horrible accent showing.

"Come closer, I need to tell you something in private."

The guard came closer, close enough where Carter could grab him from his shirt collar and pull him towards the cell bars, where he hit his head and got knocked out. With little difficulty, Aaron grabbed the guard's keys and opened their cell.

"Excellent job, partner. Now what do we do?" Carter asked.

"We run towards Cell Block C. We need to pick someone up."

And so it was. The two ran towards Cell Block C where they found Craig.

"Hey Craig?" Aaron asked.

"Yeah?"

"Ready to go home?"

"Yeah!"

Carter unlocked Craig's cell and they started running away. Just then, they were noticed by another guard.

"Hey, they freed the inmate! Get them!" He told the other guards and they started giving chase.

The three inmates ran towards the door, that Carter kicked open, and climbed on a carriage. Aaron picked up a gun and pointed it towards the driver.

"You better drive if you know what's good for ya." He said.

Just then, Gray ran out of the prison.

"Hey! Stop! That's my ride!" He yelled out in an attempt to stop the driver.

"Buh-bye Gray! Hope you know how to walk!! Bahahaha!" Aaron taunted as the carriage moved faster and faster, leaving Gray and the prison behind for good.

It's final destination? Soweiland.
