Chapter 14 - How Disappointing

"Hey, voice. Are you certain Goblins are part of the Deaman race?".

Yes! Why Do You Ask Such An Obvious Question

"Why you say?...".

Sitting around a bonfire with a portion of freshly grilled meat, a moulded cup filled with water for me and intoxicating alcohol for them, accompanied by chattering sounds of comic and experience discussion.

"How should I put this?... It is well, peaceful!".

And That Is A Cause For Doubt Because?...

"You told me they are a violent race. You had me believing all their lives they know nothing but wars and strength.

How do you expect me to react when this is what I am greeted with?".

Can you blame me?!

I was here thinking right, I will dominate this clan first, rally them together and work my way up the ladder to the big guys.

But... Seeing them like this, it felt like I had forgotten the basics of it all. I was once again reminded of why I chose to remain a loner, why I don't exactly appreciate the thought of mingling.

These people are well... People, not robots.

I had laid out my plans forgetting that they too had thoughts and opinions of their own.

Differing thoughts equals more work for me.

For now, I had best forget about uniting the clan and instead work on showing exemplary leadership qualities that will awe them into following me.

I also have to be careful of my actions if I am ever going to convince them to follow me.

Sigh... This is why I hate associating with people.

Anything involving people requires thinking for two, a lot of trouble and the willingness to accept that regardless of what is done, variables will exist.

This is not a game world, but I had preferred it was. That way, all I would have to do is recruit and have them follow my will.

There are games where the character offers a bit of resilience, but they can be convinced through a quest completion to increase familiarity points.

"Voice, is there not a quest I can do to increase my familiarity with the clan and just have them start trusting me, easily".

Suggestion From An Outside Observer? Try To Get Close To Them Through Discovery

Ask Questions To Know more And Possibly Derive A Peaceful Way To Achieve Conquest Over Them

"Thanks for the advice, but I don't think mister grumpy face over there would be willing to follow my view on things".

Letting go of the worrying thoughts, I munched on my meat and drank the cup to quench my thirst. It was a satisfying piece to have.

The worries of suddenly dying? Arriving in a strange-like world? Having a voice go on in my head? Getting a mission to unite a clan and a race? Getting my first kill? Getting my first battle experience? And especially sleeping out in the cold weather?

I decided to let all those thoughts fly out the radar. For now, I will enjoy this tranquil peace I have been bestowed.

...

He came in, weakly aided by his walking stick to the finely crafted wooden bed laid out in the hut.

"Ah...".

His breathing expressed relief as he sat on the bed and laid the walking stick by his side.

Those pupils of his stared far into the distance, far beyond what the eyes of an ordinary man could imagine.

With it, memories of the past flooded his thoughts. He was both reminiscing and regretful.

"Master".

Shifting aside the straps used as cover for the hut, he walked in calling out to him.

"How is he".

The master inquired, his focus on stretching his leg.

"Drunk and passed out. I had Krevin escort him to one of the huts".

Laden did not bother to hide his irritation toward the guest as he spoke.

"Good. See to it that he does not lack in resources. And tomorrow, bring him to me. There are some questions I need to ask".

"Master. I don't get it".

"What is it?".

The master retorts.

"That creature. This is your first time meeting so why do you dote on him as though he is someone of importance".

Laden had confirmed the creature meant no harm, but that doesn't mean he is to be fully trusted or be welcomed with open arms.

"Laden, what is your goal".

The question was sudden, out of range concerning their discussion.

"You know what it is master, what my goal has always been".

"Indeed I do, I know it full well".

Taking a brief pause, he stared at the empty space to continue.

"If you wish to fulfil that goal of yours, it is crucial that you befriend that creature".

His master was not one to dish out thoughtless praise, especially to someone he had only just met.

"Is he that important of a creature? He did not seem that strong to me when we fought. We could have taken him on if he had not captured Idon as a hostage".

To his words, the master let out a brief laugh.

"Look not with your outer eyes, but observe with that which is of the inner that peers through all things hidden".

"Master, I don-

"That is no ordinary creature, Laden. Those eyes, those gazes! Those were not of the average creature.

He is dangerous, more so than you can ever imagine than you can ever assume. It is only left to be asked in what direction the danger he poses can be exploited".

"Are you saying he is stronger than I am, master".

Laden was disappointed. He was trained by the very goblin before him and on so many occasions he exemplified himself from other goblins, displaying his extraordinary talents and valour.

He is a goblin of distinction especially in the area that coincides with the display of strength and might.

"Yes. More so than you can imagine".

Laden is... Disappointed! Really, he is!!
