Chereads / City Of Angels / Chapter 15 - 14

Chapter 15 - 14

On top of one of one of L.A's tallest buildings sits a white-haired teenage boy, and in his hands lies a comic book. An edition of superheroes and villains, good guys vs bad guys, a battle between evil and non-evil.

The white-haired boy who is not afraid of heights or afraid to fall from that tall building holds a disgusted look on his face while flipping the pages. His face is a grimace because he cannot believe that he used to root for the heroes, he cannot believe he thought being a good person would get you praised like the heroes in the book.

It's all bullshit because being a good person doesn't get you praised, it gets you used, you're treated like trash but the kind of trash they play with before dumping you into the bin.

You're not human, you're a plaything, a pawn in someone's game.

But not this time.

The boy wishes he never saw these comics who knows what kind of a man he'd be if he didn't believe good always wins? He tried to be good but people still treated him like a villain and the worst part of this is that his parents were one of the people who saw him as a monster.

Although they are in California one of the most progressive states in the U.S. there are still some bigots who want the world to be as it was before, white, Christian and heterosexual. His parents were not racist but they were homophobic and were ready to send their son to a gay conversion camp where he would be guilt-tripped into thinking who he was was disgusting.

He didn't know why they wanted him to go to a conversion camp to feel guilty about his feelings, his parents had already made him feel ashamed of himself. So what did he do with that shame? He decided it be a good idea to eradicate it by taking his life.

So he hung himself. He didn't even struggle he just let the rope squeeze his neck until death took him away. He didn't care if he was going to hell, being alive was hell enough.

But then he woke up he expected to be in a world of fire and brimstone but he wasn't. he was in the arms of a god, a powerful being, an immortal who had brought him back to life.

"There there, Joshua." The man said. "It'll be just fine, you're alright." He said to him his voice sounded so soothing and convincing. What kind of man has a calming voice? He has only met men who shout for even the slightest things. This man sounded majestic, beautiful. One could listen to his voice over and over.

But Joshua was confused. The last thing he remembered was him wanting to leave this life but he was still on earth, he thought maybe it could be a trick and this man was going to throw him in hell very soon. But he wasn't in the underworld. He was in a cemetery and he was wearing a suit. They had buried him. He did die.

But he knew for a fact that he didn't come back as himself, he didn't come back normal. He had changed.

Joshua Harding is one of the halo thief's followers, a human turned angel and he's going to stand by the halo thief's side. He's going to do anything for his master and he's going to make sure that the people who hurt him pay. He's no longer the weak little scrawny kid who gets bullied so easily he's an angel now. He's stronger, faster and he can fly, those people better get ready because Joshua will stop at nothing until he gets his revenge.

Joshua remembers when he read his first comic book. His father had bought it for him in the hopes that his son be manly and not turn into a sissy he didn't want Joshua playing with dolls or kitchen sets, he wanted him playing with action figures and reading comic books. His father failed because he ended up being gay anyway.

How does one see hot characters like Bruce Wayne and Clark Kent and not fall in love? It was even the characters from DC comics that turned him gay. Maybe his dad should have made him play with dolls or kitchen sets. But Joshua knows that no matter what you play with dolls or action figures you will still turn out gay no matter what.

But Joshua isn't going to be thinking about what can and won't turn someone gay. He tosses the comic book from the tall building and it goes falling not caring where or who it will hit. He shakes his head and looks up to the sky.

A quick gush of wind moves through him and he rolls his eyes because he wants to be alone right now he just needs a place to think but this person doesn't seem to care.

"What?" He asks the intruder behind him.

"You went to see him didn't you?" She asks. Joshua sighs. "Why didn't you alert us?"

"He's my best friend."

The girl giggles. "We didn't come back to life for friends Joshua. We came back because the master allowed us to hurt those who hurt us."

Joshua spins around and looks at the five-foot-five auburn-haired girl with the diamond face and the cupid's bow. She's currently wearing a shirt and a mini-skirt with boots. Sarah Masterson never used to look like this. She was a nerdy girl who accidentally got killed by her classmates due to a prank gone wrong. And she wants her revenge. She looks more angry at the people who bullied her than Joshua's anger towards the people who bullied him.

Joshua wants to get his revenge but he can't help but think of Angelo. His best friend is an angel too.

Angelo and him were best friends but Angelo never got bullied because he had a way with people. He was the funny kid, the boy with the musical talent. Joshua was the quiet kid with dark brown hair who always put his head down.

Not only was he bullied physically, he was bullied emotionally.

Angelo didn't know this because Joshua never told him and most times Angelo was never there when the bullying would take place. It wasn't just his parents that drove him to kill himself it was those kids as well. He just wanted to see his friend. He never thought that someone like Angelo would commit suicide. But seeing that he's not living in his house anymore it can only mean one thing.

"I know, I'm going to get my revenge," he smirks.

"You don't look like you're ready to do anything," Sarah says, her face in a scowl, her arms folded. She believes Joshua isn't capable enough to bust some heads, to make people suffer.

A grin slowly forms on his face.

"What?" Sarah asks looking him up and down.

"Follow me," Joshua says and he throws himself off the building and Sarah does the same thing. Their wings are out, one different from the other reflecting their personality.

Joshua's wings are like ice and some crystals can be used as a weapon meanwhile Sarah's wings are fiery and and are strong.

These two are some of the first humans the halo thief turned and they had already figured out how to get their wings, they knew how to use them and each angel has a gift. Joshua has the gift of ice and snow. He can freeze people. The longer someone stays frozen can result in their death.

As for Sarah, she can create fireballs and set someone on fire with quickness. these two are the halo thief's right hand and they teach other humans turned angels how to sprout their wings and get their gift.

They've also been tasked with finding Angelo. Joshua found him, but he lost him, but he also has a feeling that he'll be seeing Angelo again. That cute blond nephilim cannot protect him for long.

Joshua and Sarah are on the ground and are in front of someone's house. The lights are out which will make things easier.

"Who's house is this?" Sarah asks looking at the house.

"George Kingston," Joshua answers coldly. And Sarah doesn't have to ask who that is, all she does is smile. "You help me with my revenge, I help you with yours." Joshua winks.

Sarah nods her head in agreement. "so what are we gonna do to him."

"Torture first," Joshua says. "Then death." Joshua walks over to the house and Sarah follows him.

"Finally." she mouths.

They both walk through the house they don't bother to knock or do anything like that. The house is nothing big, it's pretty simple just like Joshua's old home.

George's father is on the couch snoring while the box TV is on. The two angels make their way to George's room.

George's room is full of medals, and trophies. There are posters of football players and a poster of a hot model on the wall that he probably jerks off to. He's sleeping so peacefully. Of course when you're a douche and you don't know you're an awful person then you're going to sleep peacefully.

"Aww, look at the little princess." Sarah pouts her lips and Joshua giggles.

With a swiftness, Joshua takes George off his bed and he flies out of the room. George immediately wakes up and is confused as to what is going on. When he finds out that he's in the air he begins to panic and he begins to scream.

He thinks this must be a dream he has to wake up from but why does the dream feel so real? He continues to scream. This might look like a dream but it is a scary one. George is afraid of heights.

Joshua takes him to the top of a building. Joshua holds George's shirt while he hangs from it.

George is panicking, there's fear in his eyes, his eyes are widened and he's breathing heavily. He doesn't think this is a dream anymore.

"Look man, I didn't know she had a boyfriend, okay, please don't kill me." He pleads and Joshua and Sarah laugh.

"What the hell is he talking about?" Sarah asks.

"Probably banged someone's sister." Joshua looks at him with disgust. "You really don't recognize me, George?"

George stops panting fearfully he squints his eyes and looks at the person who has him dangling from a tall building. He gasps and he's more scared than before.

"Joshua Harding?"

Joshua smiles. "Hey, George."

"But… but… you died, you killed yourself."

"And who's fault is that?"

"Whoa! Look man I'm sorry that I did all those things to you, bro. I shouldn't have—"

"I AM NOT YOUR BRO!" he thrusts him backwards.

"Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! Please please please." he whines.

"OMG." Sarah laughs. "He's peeing himself."

Joshua isn't laughing. This boy gave him hell, and he went on to live his life like he did nothing he remembers every insult, he remembers the times his head was plunged into the toilet. They showed him no mercy so why would he?

"Sarah, would you want to do the honours?"

"Ah," she says excitedly. "With pleasure.

Sarah replaces Joshua and grabs George by his shirt.

"Dying is too easy for you," she says looking him straight in the eyes. "I saw your medals and trophies. You're an athlete." George continues to sob and Sarah throws an evil grin Joshua's way.

"Oh, Sarah Masterson you are cold."

"You're the one with the cold powers."

Joshua chuckles. He focuses on his legs and ice forms on George's strong athletic legs. George screams and screams. "I'M SORRY, PLEASE DON'T DO THIS! I'M SORRY!"

He feels the pain of the ice until he doesn't anymore.

"My turn," Sarah says, using her power on his leg. While George Kingston cries in pain. The angels laugh.

George Kingston has lost his legs, forever.
