Chereads / City Of Angels / Chapter 16 - 15

Chapter 16 - 15

Angelo, Chris, Wendy and JJ, stand together, holding themselves in front of Sunnyville High. The nephilims never thought they'd be repeating high school or going to a public school for humans for that matter and Angelo never thought he'd be going to a school for rich people.

Angelo's nervous, JJ's a bit scared, Wendy's ecstatic and Chris is a bit annoyed that he has to be schooling with a bunch of ignorant human teens who can't tell their left from their right.

Angelo sees that the majority of these teenagers are walking out of expensive cars and they have expensive materials on their bodies that cost more than anything. JJ's fear subsides when he sees some pretty girls walking past him. He nods in approval. Wendy on the other hand feels like she's in the TV show Beverly Hills 90210.

She's sure to have her Beverly Hills teen drama moment in this school. And for someone who has watched a lot of teen movies and shows this has always been her dream.

"Alright guys, we have to stick together." Says Angelo holding JJ's hand with most strength.

"OW! Angel strength!" JJ whines. Angelo sees what he's doing to JJ's arm and he lets go immediately.

"Sorry."

"I don't know why you guys are scared," Wendy says. "This looks like a fairytale."

"Really? Going to school with a bunch of humans is a fairytale." Says JJ in a sarcastic tone.

"We're humans too JJ." Wendy reminds him.

"Yeah, barely."

"Okay, all we have to do is stick together no matter what," Angelo says still a bit nervous and he thinks that as an angel the feeling of nerves would disappear from him but no it's even worse than ever.

"We're going to walk into that school together, side by side." Says Angelo.

"Yeah, I agree we must not separate," JJ says.

"Are you with us Chris?" Angelo asks still in awe at the fact that a possible sixteen-year-old drives the most expensive car. But when he gets no answer he turns to ask Chris again. "Chris?" except Chris isn't with them anymore. The three look to their front and see Christopher walking toward the school. They follow him immediately and Wendy waves at the other kids.

As soon as they get inside they're awestruck. The inside looks even more attractive than the outside. The walls are stainless, one can see their reflection on the floor and the locker is pure white. Angelo has noticed that this school has predominantly white students. He barely sees a black or brown student. Could that be why people are looking at him and JJ so weirdly?

"I think the chics here love me," JJ whispers into Angelo's ear. Or could it be that?

Angelo doesn't know, all he knows is that this school is filled with rich white people. Back at his old school, Lockwood High. It was rich in diversity. There were a lot of Latinos and African Americans who studied together in peace and harmony, and there were white people too but the difference between this school and that one is that there is not one person of colour here. Except him, Wendy and JJ.

Angelo's thoughts are interrupted when he hears giggles. He spots a group of girls in cheerleading uniforms walking toward him. He swallows.

There are cheerleaders at Angelo's old school but they're low-key, they're not like the cheerleaders you see in the movies. But the cheerleaders approaching them right now look like the intimidating ones he's seen in movies. Angelo swallows.

The one that grabs his attention the most is the black girl who has her hair in a ponytail and has a cross around her neck, she has nicely structured cheekbones and her lip gloss is simple. She's five foot tall, has straight smooth legs, her lips are heart-shaped and her eyes are a dashing shade of honey brown. Her smile is also out of this world. If Angelo isn't gay then he'd have a thing for her.

It's also nice that a black girl is a part of the cheerleading squad. Angekos bets she's the captain.

He looks at JJ to see if he's seeing her beauty but he's not looking at her, he's looking at the girl beside her, the one with the raven hair. She's hot too. Angelo turns to Chris to see if he's admiring any of the girls but he's not, he's not admiring anyone. His arms are folded and he's looking around. Angelo shakes his head. Typical Chris. Unreadable as always.

"Hello, guys!" The Black girl says enthusiastically and they return the greeting except for Chris. "You must be the new kids from Father Guzman's foster home. Welcome to Sunnyville High. I'm so happy to be your guide in th—" The sunny princess stops and the people around her are confused as to why she stopped talking. Her friend with the raven black hair smirks because she knows why.

Angelo knows why, it doesn't take a genius to know why because it is obvious that she stopped talking because she caught the eye of beauty and that beauty is Christopher Benson. Christopher turns his head to see that the girl is staring at him. Angelo cannot believe his eyes. Is that little smile on Chris' face aimed toward her? Does he like her?

"Hey." Chris simply says in that seductive smooth voice of his.

"Uhm… uh… hi." The black girl has forgotten how to talk well. Angelo cannot blame him. Christopher looks like a god, a supernatural being. Well, he is a supernatural being.

But Angelo can't help but feel a pang of jealousy inside of him. He saw Chris first.

He doesn't understand why he's jealous. Christopher Benson is straight.

"Welcome to Sunnyville. I'm Kelsey Hathaway."

"Christopher Benson. These are my foster brothers and sister. Angelo Hernandez, Wendy Wang and James Jones." Christopher smoothly turns his attention toward his friends.

"Hi!" Wendy waves excitedly.

"Oh yes! Your foster siblings. Welcome." Kelsey says as if remembering other people are standing in front of her. Angelo wants to roll his eyes but he chooses not to. He smiles instead because he's always been a smiler and a lover of smiling. He's not going to stoop low as to look like Christopher who always has a frown on his face.

"What about your friend? Does she have a name?" JJ asks looking at the dark-haired girl.

"Oh, this is—"

"Grace, Grace Cassidy." she shakes JJ's hand. "It is a pleasure to meet you handsome."

"Likewise beautiful."

Angelo and Wendy exchange smiles. Grace and JJ shake hands for a long time while they look at each other in the eyes. JJ's brown looking at Grace's blue. It is obvious that these two now have a thing for each other. They hold each other's gaze until Kelsey clears her throat.

"Okay, I think we should start the tour now before classes start shall we?" Kelsey looks at Chris one last time before spinning around. Grace doesn't spin as Kelsey did instead she slowly walks backwards looking at JJ.

Wendy squeals and then walks ahead of them. She's more excited about this arrangement than anyone. Angelo fixes Chris a sideways glance and he sees that he's still looking at Kelsey. And not in the usual Christopher Benson way but in a different way Angelo has never seen Chris look at anyone like that before. In a way that shows that he really is interested in this girl.

Angelo looks away in disappointment. Except no! He shouldn't be disappointed. Christopher is straight and that is that. If anything it would be nice if Chris had a thing for this girl.

Kelsey and Grace show them around this big school with a high budget. She shows them the swimming pool, the music room for the music club and glee club that Angelo will be joining, there's the gym, the computer room, the classrooms, the auditorium for their assemblies and where the theatre kids hang out and do their plays which Wendy will be joining.

Then there's the large football field.

"If you guys want to try out for the cheerleading team you can," Kelsey says. And even though Angelo and his 'foster family' can move their body in a way no human can. Cheerleading is not their thing.

After getting their locker combination. Angelo notices that his locker is further away from his friend's lockers. He opens his locker and looks at the space. He can't wait to start decorating it.

He puts some of his new textbooks into the locker and as he does so he spots a tall guy in a red and black varsity jacket hugging and kissing Kelsey, that kiss is intimate. Looks like they're boyfriend and girlfriend.

The boy is pretty handsome, with blonde hair and a nice build. But he's not as handsome as Chris.

He lets out a sigh of relief because that means Kelsey is in a relationship and when Chris finds out he's not going to be having a thing for her.

Why the fuck does he still care though? He thinks, for the last time Chris is straight he wants to make that clear in that thick skull of his.

"Their relationship isn't gonna last." Angelo flinches at the voice behind him. Chris looks him up and down. "You're an angel and you still don't know when people approach you unexpectedly."

"Angels only get that kind of sense when danger approaches them unexpectedly."

"How do you know that?"

"The angelology book that Father Guzman gave me. Didn't you study angelology in your magical high school or something?"

"Yeah, but I wasn't paying attention half of the time. I was more obsessed with combat classes." He says still looking at the tall blond-haired guy holding Kelsey as they both talk to Grace and the other football players who look like bullies.

"That's weird how do you know their relationship isn't going to last?"

"Because he's a dirtbag who doesn't respect women. I just heard him call another girl a slut before hugging Kelsey."

Angelo looks at Kelsey and then at Chris's beautiful face. Angelo cannot believe his ears. Can it be?

"Are you jealous?"

Chris grimaces. "Why would I be jealous? Jealous of what?"

Angelo smiles mischievously and the bell rings.

Angelo begins to walk away.

"Angelo! Answer me."

"We have class right now Chris, that's what the bell is for," Angelo calls out and Chris looks around to see people scattering. He looks at his schedule to see what he has first.

Literature.

He rolls his eyes and follows Angelo to the class
