Chapter 49 - Chapter 49. Tests

Anger is a tool of destruction. This is because an angry man is an irrational man. And an irrational man uses brawl rather than brain. These scientist did not even stop to think for a second that if Marx was here for the core tech, then why destroy it?

Didn't that mean that there was a bigger fish? The three guards did not even take another step before they were all dead. They coud be strong but not one of them could be sure to have the ability to have an ability to dodge bullets. Just a blue stream was all they saw before dropping dead.

Thus, when Marx shot at them, they had their fates sealed. Just three shots and they were dead. Marx once again was amazed by the human body. This human body was too fragile.

It was easier to kill humans. He felt like he did not even have to dirty his baby with killing them. Just one bullet was enough from the Fist Torpedoes. Especially when it was laser bullets which could be said to be twice as fast and powerful as the normal bullets. The scientist were brains but not strength.

Even as four of them dropped dead, the others had no time to react. In the next second, only the number ten scientist was left standing. She did not even realize how the ten had died.

Fear encroached her. She did not know when she would drop dead too. She did not even know when the others died and she was also sure that they too did not know. Her knees wobbled. Where did such a monster come from?

She was sure that he was not from the resistance. This kid was enough to join the elite squads... She was still standing in the next five seconds. Nothing scared somene more than knowing you could die at any moment and you were still standing and yet you did not know whether you were dead yet.

Even as marx reached her and walked past her, she did not see him. She just dropped on her knees. She shivered when she heard his amost manly yet cold voice. It felt like it was coming from the depths of hell.

"My message is simple actually. Trespassing is punishable by death. Take your time to disappear." Marx said the words and he then headed to the section of the wall where the entrance was.

The scientist could not stop shivering but she could not stop her curiosity from rising. She watched as he pressed his hand on the wall and it then separated. A three meter tall and a meter wide entrance appeared.

The entrance glowed with a blue light and it disappeared after he got in. Then the entrance closed such that it appeared the same way as the wall. It was then she realized that there was an even bigger catch.

She was still on the ground and she communicated via neural link.

"All units converge at the basement," she said as she supported herself with the table standing up. She fixed her glasses and regained her cool demeanor.

Marx was engulfed in the blue light. He felt the doors shut behind him. But he did not bother to check. There was nothing that could happen to him in here. He stared at the room.

It seemed small but it was larger than he had expected. At the far end of the room was the cube. Its glow was not as he had seen it in the com-verse. It was dim... He walked forward but as he got nearer, it seemed that the cube got further.

He could not quite get the concept but these were rocks with spatial properties. The cube could be already five kilometers away from his reach. It suddenly appeared like he was in a tunnel. This tunnel changed its colour according to the sequence of the cube.

He had walked for one hour but he was yet to reach the cube. He could not trek forward carelessly or he would be in danger though he did not know what dangers lay ahead or traps. He just walked at a constant speed and for the first time, he could see the light getting brighter.

He was now about two kilometers away. One can imagine the brilliance of the cube that could be seen from five kilometers away. Marx spent three hours before he was about ten meters away from the cube.

He was now in the original room. The room was all furnished dark such that the only light was from the cube. Marx was supposed to be blinded but his eyes adjusted accordingly. He could even see the faces of the cube.

It was rotating at a slow speed. Marx was unsure how he was supposed to get the cube. From what he had learnt, it all required for him to pick it. He also knew that he was not the first person here.

What were they not supposed to not force their way through? As he stood, he felt no resistance at all. Without another choice he stepped forward but who could have thought that there were defense mechanisms.

Over 100 nozzles appeared on the walls when Marx took the first step. He felt a cold sweat mat his back. Should he take a step forward or should he turn back? He was caught in a dilemma but he resolved to continue forward.

After taking another step forward, the ceiling opened and a blue light emerged from a pipe camera. Marx felt the light scan the sightest of his cell even his hair. As he took the third step forward, he felt two arms on his back.

These metallic arms were just robotic gloves. His backpack was stripped from him and taken away from the ten meter radius. Jerry was in there. He had almost chased after it but when he saw that there was no harm done, he took the fourth step.

The first scan was not as thorough. This time, two eye like cameras scanned his eyes. They then scanned for his heart beat. Then the cameras stepped away. He took the next step and this time a dot like camera stood infront of him.

It came close to his forehead and he felt a sucking force. Then a droplet of blood was sucked from his forehead into the dot. Then it gave way. Marx took the next step. There were only three steps remaining.

This time, there were three one centmeter cube. Marx did not move as he let them do as they wanted. These three cubes went to his loins. He thought they wanted to test his manhood but they all went for his lymphatic nodes.

He felt a piercing pain as two of them protruded with needles and reached for his bone marrow. Marx grit his teeth as the pain travelled through his nerves to his bones. What Marx did not note due to the pain was the other cube.

This cube went for his ball and pierced his right testicle. By the time Marx realized that the test had succeeded, the three cubes had already stepped away. Marx tried to take a step forward but the pain was still there.

It was then he realized where the other cube had been. Thankfully he had been distracted or he would have ran away. No man would stand for it to do what it had done. He took two steps because he had to walk with his legs separated due to the pain.

He finally stopped and a larger cube appeared. This one floated behind him and it produced a larger needle. Marx did not look at it so as not to get scared. Whatever it was doing should be fast.

He grit his teeth and closed his eyes. The cube went to the back of his head and the needle pierced through. It then pierced through the skull and then it pulled some of his brain matter.

Marx felt no pain. He did not even realize that the test was over until he saw the cube float ahead of him. Marx then took two steps like the previous time. The pain was dying but walking recklessly could cause him pain.

Marx stood there for a while but nothing was happening. Suddenly, he felt all his clothes get burned to nothingness. He was left bare. He looked around and saw the nozzles were all pointing at him. Then all the cubes that had removed something from him came forward.

Then a screen appeared infront of Marx. The cubes then joined into the screen and transferred all the data they had collected. It took a second and the screen glowed with a red light.

Marx realized that he had failed. He could guess the purpose of the nozzles now. It appeared that whoever failed these tests would get killed by a shower of bullets naked.

What Marx did not know was that he was the first person to pass all the tests. No one had reached where he had. If he had failed in the final test, it was not yet to be confirmed. The screen colour remained red for seconds wich turned into minutes.

It was after five minutes that the screen returned normal. All this time, Marx had been saying his last prayers. He had said goodbye to his grandma and grandpa for he had failed in becoming the next chief.

He said his apologies to all he had obligations to including Mia and then closed his eyes waiting to get showered with bullets. He had closed his eyes waiting for his death. Nothing was painful as dying naked.

After a minute, he had wondered why he was still alive. He opened his right eye only to see that the screen was still red. He closed them again but a minutes later it was still the same.

He gave up and opened his eyes. He stared at the screen for the next three minutes before the screens cleared to a calm white. What he saw on the screen made him chuckle. It appeared even the system was haveing a hard time believing that he had passed what all others had failed.
