Chapter 23 - Chapter 23. Lion

Marx was now cycling towards the woods. The system had scanned another 200 kilometers and the map was at the side. He kept asking question. The system, if human, would have been already irritated and stopped lecturing.

[Frequency refers to the number of occurrences of a repeating event per unit time which can be understood in various contexts;

Temporal Frequency in Signals>In the realm of signal processing, temporal frequency pertains to the rate at which a periodic waveform repeats itself. For a sinusoidal... ]

"Mmh...What is sinusoidal?" Marx asked.

[A sinusoidal function, or simply a sine wave, is a mathematical curve that describes a smooth, periodic oscillation.

A basic sinusoidal function can be described by the following equation:[ y(t) = A \sin(\omega t + \phi) ]

Marx could not take all that information. He now realized how lacking he was. He needed to study alot of mathematics inorder to understand just a simple topic.

" Seems that I will have to start from the basics of mathematics,"Marx said with a sigh. All this time he had been speaking loud.

[System appreciates Marx's acknowledgment of his weakness. System will definitely help out]

One could have wondered why Marx's village could not go for books but that was impossible. 100 years after the 21st century came with the ban of paper. It led to use of electronic storages devices to store knowledge.

Libraries no longer had books and were just hundreds of computers on the tables. This was one of the moves in the environmental protection pact. It was successful and there came the separation of people according to their genes.

This meant that those who were rated to be farmers were taken to the countryside to work there as farmers and 'conserve' the environment there. These were areas where it was known used to have high rainfall.

For areas that were known as arid they were slotted as cities and that was where the rest of the working population lived. The pact also banned the use of petroleum products and opted for hydrogen fuel.

Also, it was difficult to find those above the age of 60 apart from the untouchables in the city. For the rest of the population, once one was 60, they would relocate to the countryside to help in 'environmental conservation and farming'.

The pact was seen as a joke but after 200 years there was visible difference. The pact did not allow cities to be built outside certain boundaries and thus under the frustration of the growing population led to the invetion of these floating cities that helped in settlement of the population.

The best part about this system was the high employment rates. There was usually a weird way of testing someone. There were computers that were used to scan someone and there would be the categorization of one's genes.

These genes were used to determine what course someone took. It was usually taken when one hit the age of twelve. The brightside of this system was that someone would have sure bet that they would get employed after the computers scanned their genes and allotted them a certain profession.

The downside was that it crushed millions of people's dreams. This led to people being less ambitious as their fate was already sealed. Just imagine when one really had a dream of having a top profession like medicine and when they get scanned, their genes showed that they were supposed to be farmers.

If that was the case, even if your parents came from the city, they would have to send you to the countryside and learn with fellow farmers. But this law was only applicable to the rest of the world.

Those of 'higher stature' or say those who lived in the grandest of the floating cities had their fate sealed by their parents and could undertake the proffession chosen to them by their parents.

Though it was usually kept secret, people were not blind. This continued and for years, the system proved perfect. This system was good as hidden talents could be fished out and especially the great research that had been going on about leaving Earth.

It later was made possible and what happened happened next and just like that, Earth was abandoned and the population declined.

Marx at the moment was laying on his front. The sun was setting at the moment. Marx was hidden between the long grass which appeared to be turning brown. From the area the system had scanned, he was few meters away from a gazelle.

He crawled as silently as possible making sure that the grass did not move. He had asked the system which weapon was perfect for him but he had received the answer that he had could use any weapon.

On his right hand was a spear. Spear could be an exaggeration though. It was a 3 meter long stick fitting perfectly in his palm. It appeared sharp at the tip... Not sharp. It appeared like it had been sharpened with stones!

He had requsested for system's help but who could have thought that he did not have access to the features he required. He had decided to use the primitive methods.

One could see that the spear was sharpened with stones but after he realized that it could not pierce into anything, he had fitted a sharp stone on its tip. He had tried to use the barks of nearby trees as ropes but it had proven to be an impossible task.

He could not help but wonder how primitive man did so easily. He had opted for the fabric of his clothes. He tore apart a strip and tied the stone.

His greatest hope being that it would pierce. He had left the monkey meters away with the bike. He was still crawling and he was now five meter away from it.

It had stopped feeding and it kept glancing into his direction. He could only be thankful for the grass. All he now needed was a throw.

But it was easier said than done. He had created only one spear and a miss could take his dinner away. He was confident in not missing but he was very doubtful that it would pierce the skin of the gazelle.

But with strength, all was possible. What he now needed was to get up fast and launch the spear at the gazelle. He counted in his mind from 3... 2... 1.

But who could have thought that the slightest of movements would scare away the gazelle. He stood up quick but the gazelle was already on its heels.

Marx could not allow his prey to run away. He threw the spear at the gazelle which was now almost ten meters away. The spear pierced through the air and struck the gazelle.

The gazelle stopped abruptly when it felt something inside its butt. But it did not get to register what it was as it dropped dead. Marx jumped with joy as he rushed at it.

He had a sheepish grin as he saw where the spear had pierced. He was perverted and he had been aiming for that 'hole'. Who knew that his aim would be this perfect?

He did not bother to remove it. Since it was 'firmly' fixed, then why bother when he could carry it that way using the spear? He turned but what he saw made him laugh his ass out.

Had it been long ago, he would have had thoughts of dying and leave the gazelle and run but now? He was confident that no creature on Earth could harm him.

The lion two meters infront of him roared angrilly to intimidate him. It seemed riled up when it did not see any fear in its prey. Marx was in the least scared.

He could never let anyone take the fruits of his hardwork. He could also not mind eating the lion but he knew the gazelle was sweeter. He also did not plan to remove the spear any time soon so he was going to fight it bare handed.

The lion was about to charge when he started walking towards it. He had a feeling that he would get to kick some lion ass. The lion's mane made it appear majestic yet intimidating but it could not get how he was not intimidated.

The lion did not quite register the kick it received from the human. It was strong enough to show the lion who was stronger. The lion started taking steps back and turned exactly as Marx had anticipated.

He charged at the lion before it picked up some speed and raised his right leg. He then kicked the butt of the retreating lion with so much strength that it was sent rolling forward several times.

The lion had been unwilling to yield but after that kick, it did not wait as it fled. Marx had a happy smile on his face as the rays of the setting sun shone on his face making it glow goldish.

The proud look... He had gotten to kick some lion ass.
