Chapter 3 - 3: The Chase

(This chapter hasnt been edited yet. Its in a very rudimentary form and is not worth the spoilers. Though, if you wish to read go ahead! :))

"RUN!" I shouted. Even if they weren't there to kill us, I didn't want to find out.

Behind us, the way we were running, was a forest. Even though it was obviously dangerous, we had no choice but to go inside to run away. Some people tripped on roots and were stomped to death. Some died to the wolves and others too scared to move. Everyone was running through the trees, trying their absolute best to avoid rocks and other natural items that may cause them to trip.

Everyone has cuts on their calves from thorny bushes and small sticks scraping against them, but we still kept running.

After 3 more minutes of sprinting to survive, we encountered a river. It was a mix between a canyon and a river. About a 15 feet fall down until you hit water, leading into a waterfall.

'NOOO'

'Oh God, please let me live'

'My… my family'

Everyone was devastated. Some collapsed with their bodied limp and others eyes became dull. Then, Kale spoke up, "Find a big log, the canyon is wide, but the trees here are huge! As Long as we work together to move the log we can cross over!"

Hope gleamed in everyone's eyes as they began searching around.

After around 5 minutes, a group of 3 shouted, "WE FOUND ONE!"

It was an enormous trunk, about 75 feet long and a good 4-5 feet wide. It fell due to a lightning strike, hence the extremely burnt top.

"Good! Everyone work together to place it over the river!"

It seemed like the wolves lost our trail for now, probably stopped while occupied with the others who fell, otherwise we wouldn't have been able to run faster than them. It won't be long though, they have an extremely sensitive nose after all.

Everyone worked together to place the massive log upright and pushed it toward the edge. Now, they could hear howls in the distance, meaning the wolf pack was close. Now, was to push it over and hope it reached the other side and didn't bounce or roll too much into the river.

"BAM!!!"

"IT WORKED!"

"HAHA"

Everyone was ecstatic. They pushed and shoved to go on first and eventually, me and Kale were the last ones.

"Ready?" I asked

"I fucking hope I am" Kale responded

Together they crossed the log, like walking on a tightrope. Then, we heard someone talking.

"You guys go and run! I'll make sure they get across safely. In the meantime, find somewhere to set up camp!" It was the old dwarf dude.

As soon as everyone left, he turned to us, "Are you positive you don't want to be my generals? Ill treat you well!"

Before i could give a rational answer, as to not cause enmities in the future, Kale squealed, "PFFT Who'd want to take orders from someone who quite literally looks like a walking ball sack."

Kale, why now of all times do you choose to be difficult...

The dwarf gritted his teeth, "I'm Gamel, and I'm sorry. I can't have enemies in my kingdom. Go to hell." With a wicked grin, the old dwarf pushed the log off with his foot and walked away, as we, the people who saved him, fell into a river leading into a waterfall.

I fell unconscious.

I woke up, there was a fire next to me and I was covered in leaves. Kale was next to me with a basic knife made of a sharp rock. The rock was tied with plant fiber to a wooden stake, which was also tied together by plant fiber.

"Yo, you're up!" Kale said excitedly.

"Heh heh, yeah" I exclaimed

"What happe-" as soon as I started to say those words all the memories came rushing back to me.

"...Gamel" I gritted my teeth.

"I know right?" Kale said. "That speech was go fucking lame, if he didnt spout all that bullshit it would have been 'I'm Gamel. Go to hell'. At least that rhymes."

I couldn't help but chuckle. "How long?"

"...4 hours"

"Damn, did anything happen while I was out?" I asked.

"Well, I got basic tools. Not enough to kill anything though. This knife can't pierce skin but is good at getting fiber. We can make a good bow in no time!" He noted.

…You can't use a bow.. I decided to not say that. Kale was bad with a bow. Not just bad, horrible. He once participated in a competition back on earth and lost to a 6 year old girl. It's a sore spot for him.

Kale sprung up, "Oh! Look at your status. There's something that isn't supposed to be here and you have the brain so…"

I quickly open my status panel.

"Hey… Kale?" I asked, astonished.

"Hm?"

"Did you inspect that wolf earlier?"

"Of course, You'd be stupid not to."

"What did you see?"

"Hmm… Gale Wolf Level 1"

"That's it?"

"Yup"

I showed him my status panel.

"Damn, so I'm guessing you saw everything?"

I nodded my head.

"Does it work on me?"

My eyes widened in realization. I tried it instantly.
