Chapter 7: The Storm
Days passed, and Ama, Nala, and Kwame continued to gather information, waiting for the perfect moment to escape. But the captain's words echoed in Ama's mind: "Escape is impossible."
One night, a fierce storm rolled in, the winds howling like a chorus of banshees. The ship creaked and groaned, threatening to splinter apart.
Ama, Nala, and Kwame huddled together, clinging to the wooden beams as the ship pitched and yawed. The hold was chaos, with people screaming and praying.
In the midst of the turmoil, Ama saw their chance. She grabbed Nala's hand, and Kwame followed close behind as they made a dash for the deck.
The storm raged on, lightning illuminating the dark sky. Ama's hair whipped around her face, and the wind stung her eyes. But she pushed forward, determined.
As they reached the deck, Ama saw James struggling to keep his footing. She hesitated, unsure if she should trust him. But then, a massive wave crashed over the ship, sweeping James off his feet.
Ama, Nala, and Kwame were washed overboard, tumbling through the water. Ama's lungs burned, but she kicked and stroked, fighting to reach the surface.
When she finally broke through the waves, she saw Nala and Kwame clinging to a piece of debris. But James was nowhere to be found...
