A loud 'bam' resonated throughout the whole library.
Asura had a wild grin on his lips as he avoided the barrage of magical spells that were sent his way. He quickly locked onto the person he was looking for, which was the mage themself. He was much less interested in the others that were trying to kill him.
It was the mage's familiar that he was much more concerned about.
The raven quickly spread its wings, setting up a protective barrier around its owner. He could not break through it, his claws dragged across the barrier. The mage quickly took the chance and unleashed a burst of ice towards him, wanting to keep him in place to allow the other players to attack him, but he was much faster than any of them.
"Keep up, darling!" He shouted as he launched himself in the air.
His feet landed on an axe as he dodged the arrows and gunshots coming his way. He quickly kicked the player in the head, hard enough that his feet went right through their head with ease. He did not feel much, though he also knew that players could not die during events, they would just spawn back in a safe spot after their resurrection cooldown had finished.
The entire area was filled with different sounds, but he was still far more interested in taking off the mage and their familiar first. He could tell that the players that were fighting him were of a lower level, even without considering how easy it was for him to kill them with a regular punch to the chest.
Well, regular for him.
He quickly took out a few players that stood in his way between the mage and their familiar, they already knew that he was targeting them. The familiar seemed to grow stronger, its presence turning far more ominous than it was before. He grinned as his hand went through the barrier before the familiar could put it up, immediately grabbing the mage's head.
"Too bad~" He mocked as he squeezed their head with his bare hand.
Their heads turned into a pile of flesh and blood, nobody being able to correctly discern what was what anymore. He hummed, turning his attention to the other players. He shrugged the squished flesh onto the ground just as the mage's corpse started to disappear.
"Come on, don't stop now." His grin was wider, like a predator ready to chew down on its prey.
He did not summon his swords the entire time as he took on the players, his body was tough enough that most of the players could not even hurt him with their weapons. His movements were swift too, the very moment that they had an opening that could cause their instant death, he took it without a second thought.
A ripped out heart, a smashed head, a kicked out heart, a slice through their head...
The entire library was filled with blood and corpses by the time he was done with dealing with everyone. Even if the corpses had been teleported away by the system not too long after the players were dead, some still lingered around a little longer than others. He whistled as he slowly strode back towards his chair.
"Well, I guess this is what a massacre feels like." He shrugged before leaning back on his throne.
[QUEST FAILED!]
[AREA IS BEING RESETTED...]
He watched as the blood and mess was being cleaned up by the system, even including those that were sticking on his clothes and skin. The entire area went back to its clean and pristine state as if nothing had ever happened here.
Just as he started to relax, he noticed a system window popped up in front of him.
[A NEW ROUND IS ABOUT TO BEGIN]
"Ah, so quickly?"
Just as he wondered who would be entering the area, the system window started to act weird.
[ERROR!]
[ERR—OR!]
[DO NO—]
He was quick to assume that this situation would be the same as the first time the system window glitched out. But that strange change in air told him that this was not the same case as that time, that this was way more different.
As the system window disappeared from his sights altogether, he noticed that his surroundings were starting to glitch out, like how it actually would in a game. The texture assets started to get missing, turning into a weird, bright shade of purple.
"If I buy a lottery ticket right now, would I win the grand prize?"
His head snapped towards the direction of a sound. He noticed that there was a shadowy figure approaching him, but his every instinct told him that they were not a player. They were something else that was not related to the game.
He could not quite pinpoint where that hunch came from, but he would believe it anyway.
"I sure am lucky." His grin did not leave his lips even in a situation like this.
They appeared in front of him in an instant, although he had anticipated that movement as he was already swinging his claws ahead of him. They easily caught onto his wrist, not allowing him to move that arm much more. Though just as he pulled them to his way, he noticed that his body was feeling strange.
"I would like to ask what you are, but I doubt you would know that answer either."
As much as he wanted to move, there was an external force that kept forcing him to kneel down on the ground. He knew that it was a much more wise choice to not try and fight it, wherever that feeling might have come from. He kneeled down on the ground, looking up at the figure with a slight tilt of his head.
His eyes widened at the sight in front of him.
What was supposed to be just shadows had changed into something he was much more familiar with. The figure looked exactly like Dava, who looked completely like him but just had a different colored skin and eyes and was clearly human. But he knew that Dava would not be here, likely being at the Tower of Babel due to the guide from the riddle.
"Who—"
"If you remember who you were, would you still accept him as a part of us?"
That voice echoed throughout the space that had now turned into a void. The voice was made out of multiple different voices that sounded similar to each other, yet there were small differences here and there that made it clear that they did not belong to a singular person.
"Do I get to choose?"
"Yes, you do. And you will be forced to take a side."
"We want you to see what this world was, what it once was."
"But why does it have to be me? I don't seem like the best choice for all of this shit."
"Because this world was made because of you."
His lips parted, those words that sounded so foreign to him. No, that idea alone was so strange to him that it was impossible to believe that their words were the truth.
"You're fucking kidding me." He gritted his teeth, having that overwhelming urge to swipe his claws at the figure.
But they stared back at him, their gaze holding a thousand untold words. Even so, he was still about to understand that core feeling in their eyes.
Regret.
It was a strange sensation, being able to see such an emotion from a pair of eyes that were so similar to his own in many ways yet so different. It was that very same feeling he first felt when his eyes landed on Dava for the first time. It made him question if his eyes ever held such emotions before.
But it was an odd question to be asking when he already knew the answer.
"The truth will reveal itself to you someday, but that day is not today."
"All of your questions will slowly be answered once you learned the first truth. And that day will come faster than you think it would."
As they said that, the area started to slowly shift back to normal. He felt like he could finally breathe easier, his body no longer being held down by some external force. His eyes narrowed on the figure as they started to disappear along with the area turning back to normal.
"If you lied to me, I will fucking kill you."
The figure smiled, nodding in agreement to his words.
