"Resonance, it can feel me in the same way I knew where it was"
Michael leaped across the fountain-like center of the junction landing on the road "It's the only reason I am still alive, being that it's faster than me I can use the resonance effect between us to predict its attacks before they connect, as long as I am still invisible it cannot easily find me."
"It's a stalemate in which I am disadvantaged."
The lion-thing jumped again landing where Michael was supposed to be, except he was not there anymore it could feel like he'd cowered away somehow. Agitated it let its instincts lead.
The monster knew when its prey was close even while it gorged on the other few shrieking prey it knew only one could satisfy it, the glowing one. It had stayed hidden for a while eating the usual animals maybe one or two humans it could get until it felt the glowing one pass near it a few days ago, that prey didn't smell like the usual ones he seemed different and its instincts told it that he was stronger somehow like itself, so the monster had waited but the human did not come back so it decided to come to it.
The hunger had somewhat subsided but it could wait no longer, the longer it waited for him the stronger the hunger got to a point it became unbearable.
So it pounced.
Michael ran across a paved platform next to the general store he'd come from keeping his footsteps as light as possible not to alert the monster. "Maybe if I can get in between the buildings I can shake it off, the farther I get from it the harder it will be for it to find me"
He felt his body quiver and then stop, the monster appeared out of nowhere decimating the path to the alleyway "Damn I'd almost forgotten about the giant wings, flapping rapidly chunks of rocks and dust flew into his face along with the strong wind pressure caused by the black bat-webbed wings threw Michael back into the tarmac. He'd raised his hands crossing them across his face to disperse the shock wave he skidded to a stop at the center of a road that led to the right.
"What is that?" from afar, it was hard to see but on a closer look, near the left limb at its lower body several golden yellow veins spread out all over its lower body connecting to a single point on the lion's body where the light was most concentrated
"Fine!" Michael whispered, "It seems I cannot escape you, then let's do this!" he shouted the shroud melted away, and the chimera's face contorted he could swear it smiled for a second before it lunged at him.
Focusing all of his energy into his legs he sprang over the chimera's head landing on its back where its mane was thinnest awkwardly landing narrowly missing the bone spikes protruding from its spine its skin awfully soft and slippery, he groped at the fur steadying not to fall over "Can't catch me if you can't reach me can you!"
The chimera tilted its back from side to side trying to shake Michael off but he held on harder particularly paying attention to the sharp spikes on his left. "One of those things is enough to impale me.
Michael's presence on its back only angered it further it let out another roar, raising its body so that it stood on its hind limbs in its frenzy several buildings , traffic lights were bent and destroyed , he glimpsed at the store or what remained of it at least most of the front lay in ruin its glass window and door shattered all over the sidewalk which was also cracked all over, the two story building facing opposite to it relatively stood intact if the sliced and bent lamp posts could be ignored.
"Wait sliced lamp posts? Its tail!" as if on cue it lashed wildly narrowly missing Michael just above his head the wind pressure cascading across his face. "Well F***!"
"I need to watch out for that, OK my turn beast" he stopped swirling celestial power through his body instead focusing on his fist "Jan Ken Fist!" he shouted and punched where the chimera's skin felt softest at first nothing happened three consecutive punches narrowly evading the scorpion stinger a small but visible incision opened a trickle of black-golden substance Michael assumed was its blood appeared from where he punched wasting no time he increased a flurry of punches, until the tail finally connected to his body hitting his right side heavily throwing him of its back and into the two story building.
Crashing through the upper windows Michael fell into a desk then a computer then the floor causing several fissures to web throughout.
"Ah!" he cried out, the chimera outside roared loudly, damage had been dealt and now it was furious.
He blinked out the blurriness in his eyes, taking stock of his injuries; several parts of his pants and shirt were torn and stained in blood and dirt, with cuts under them that were starting to heal slowly "those are negligible this on the other hand…" he winced at the long vertical gash bleeding on his right hand some kind of black fluid oozed down his hand mixed in with dark-blood dripping down collecting into a small pool on the floor.
The entire arm had gone numb and it was spreading up his shoulder "Poison huh! The stinger must have cut me" he was growing weaker and sluggish "Guess I am lucky it didn't reach the bone." he tried to smile but he couldn't find the strength for that, he ambled slowly sipping over glass and debris.
He peered out the large hole in the windows he'd crashed through
"Did it shrink?"
Now slightly above the size of a normal lion and as tall as a truck the chimera paced the ruins of the road confusedly, on top of its back a small pool of golden fluid bled out on its fur and mane. "that must be how it hid, going unnoticed all this time unless someone deliberately kept it hidden"
"What the hell is going on?"
Shot blast rung that's when Michael saw the police, helicopter blades whirred wildly in the air as it came over the building he was in. On it he spotted two people one of them held a large black camera directed at the monster on the ground, next to him another stood holding a mike in their right hand "News reporters, this sh*t just went from bad to worse"
On the ground several police officers in blue uniforms and black vests the word 'POLICE' written on them appeared, coming from between the abandoned cars guns hands trained on the monster slowly but surely trying to enclose the monster, one of them had shot at it earlier.
"I'll let them distract it for now, those men were dead the moment they came near that thing, the real problem here is the helicopter I cant be caught on camera fighting a large monster."
"Forget Lucifer, mom won't let me hear the end of it, not to mention the chaos that will come after."
He half hid behind the debris on the upper floor looking down on the police as they encircled the monster.
The chimera hadn't spotted them until it did and they started firing off their weapons. A hail of bullets assaulted it from all sides "Credit human fear to bring out their inner ruthlessness, not that their attack would accomplish anything other than to further annoy that thing." the bullets skidded of the chimera's body barely grazing it that is until one hit on its back where Michael hurt it, the chimera let out a roar that paralyzed the police for a second and that was the beginning of their end.
It turned out the chimera sacrificed its large body in favour of speed because in the next moment two police officers were dead both bitten in half seemingly at the same time, Michael could barely see it until it stopped.
One cop a burly man probably in his mid forties screamed into a portable radio asking for back up, his head was severed so fast he seemed to be speaking like he hadn't yet noticed he was no longer attached to his body,
The chimera stopped on a white Audi sedan its claws scraping the windshield Michael could almost hear it crunching human bones before it swallowed. There were 10 police officers in total the 7 remaining officers on cue unleashed their guns spurred on by the death of their comrades, the reporters all the while recorded the one holding the mike was speaking rapidly into it the helicopter moved closer "Idiots" Michael remarked the numbness had stopped spreading but his entire left arm remained completely paralyzed.
The helicopter covered the sounds coming from the ground, the seven were down to three the others cleaved in had or eaten or both, the three stood shoulder to shoulder aiming at the chimera that seemed to teleport in their eyes, two men and one woman in the middle who to add on their bad luck was out of ammo hastily she tried to replace a new magazine into her gun, by then it was all over. The chimera pounced swallowing her upper body throwing the other men shrieking off to the side using its scorpion to sting the chest of the man on the right then sliced the one on the left ending their lives swiftly while ripping apart the woman's dead body.
Raising its head the chimera glared at the helicopter after it had finished with the bodies it raised its ugly bloody face, clumps of its fur stuck together by blood.
Sensing the danger the helicopter started to ascend but it was too late, the chimera opened its reptilian wings and took to the sky the helicopter being its primary target.
