Chapter 14 - 14. The Basketball Match

Aiden's ears twitched as he sensed irregular sound

waves moving towards him. Out of the corner of his eye, the figure of a basketball

loomed bigger and bigger. Careful! Aiden quickly moved in front of Viola to protect her

from the basketball.

Ding! Reaction time, plus one. Current progress, one out of ten. Current level, beginner.

Without hesitation, Aiden punched the basketball hurtling towards him. His fist hit the

basketball squarely in the center, deflecting it briskly. Ding! Detected fist training.

Punch strength, plus one. Current progress, one out of ten. Current level, beginner.

Training my ass! Aiden's fist felt numb before the pain seared through it. He glared

menacingly at Alan and asked, You still want to cause trouble? Only then did Viola realize

what had happened. She quickly took Aiden's hand and asked with concern, Oh, Aiden,

are you all right? Your fist is bruising up.

I'll run to the infirmary to get something for it. Alan's face twisted in envy. Looking at the

closeness between the two, he felt a terrible jealousy in his heart.

Unwilling to accept the relationship between them. What a pity his reaction was so fast.

To think that he actually blocked the attack.

Alan thought to himself, If he were to hit Aiden on his head with all his might, he would

at least have a concussion. Aiden, what are you trying to accuse me of? The ball simply

slipped from my hands and flew in your direction accidentally. Did it scare you? Alan

shrugged and pretended innocence.

Alan, you did this on purpose! Viola fumed with rage, her small body trembling as she

glared daggers at Alan. Her reaction caused Alan to be even more jealous. What

happened over here? The surrounding students began to notice the small dispute and

even Mr. Turner rushed over to find out what was happening.

Everything's fine. It's just that Aiden said he wanted to challenge me, but I didn't want to

hurt his pride, so I refused. Even though I was trying to help him save his dignity, he felt

that I was looking down on him and got very angry.

Sir, look at this! Mr. Turner looked at the difference between them and started to believe

Alan. He frowned and asked Aiden, Is that true? Aiden realized Alan's cunning plot to

humiliate him. If Aiden denied it, he would inevitably be regarded as a coward by the

crowd and would embarrass himself in front of Viola.

But if he agreed, he would be walking into Alan's trap of a basketball challenge. It

seemed that, after a morning to think about it, Alan had finally come up with a way to

exploit Aiden's weaknesses. Okay, since you want to stir up even more trouble, don't

blame me for smashing your face to smithereens, Aiden thought to himself.

He smiled lightly and said, Yes, sir. I heard that Alan is a very talented player, so I would

like to challenge him. Originally wanting a one against one pickup game with Aiden, Alan

was caught off guard by the sudden change in plan, but he was still confident in his

sporting skills.

He had fallen in love with basketball as a child and happened to be quite talented at the

sport. As a result, he believed that no one in his year would ever be his match, and

Aiden, a mere weakling pretending to be a knight in shining armor, posed no threat to him whatsoever. This time, I will definitely steal Viola's heart from you, Alan swore

silently.

Had their teacher been older and more experienced, they would probably have scolded

the two of them. However, the young teacher, Nathan Turner, did not mind a little

competition between the boys. He led the two of them to the basketball court and had

the other students watch the match from the sidelines.

As soon as the students of junior year heard what was happening, they surrounded the

court and waited with excitement for the match. In the end, they finally agreed to have a

shooting competition. The rules were very simple.

Whoever made the most successful shots through the basket out of five attempts from

the free throw line would win. Alan began to warm up, while Aiden stood blankly to the

side, looking like a complete rookie. Do you want to bet on who will win? It'll be Alan, of

course.

Don't you know? That guy's been selected to represent the P.E. department ever since

he was in elementary school. I heard rumors that our basketball team even sent scouts

to recruit him. Yes, I rate him too.

Whereas Aiden is just a noob who knows how to read books. The students of junior year

analyzed and discussed the two with enthusiasm, but they already knew the winner. Just

by looking at their physical builds, Alan was clearly much stronger than Aiden.

Looks like Alan's reputation will be restored after this morning. Hey, why do you think

Aiden actually accepted his challenge? To challenge Alan at basketball?

He is? NBA champion? Oh, it's only natural. Had a bit of success this morning, and then

he thinks he's some sort of big shot now. Viola seemed to be the only one supporting

Aiden.

Aiden, go for it! When Alan heard her ear-piercing voice, he said sneeringly to Aiden,

Ladies first. Aiden glanced at Alan and said lightly, Oh, it would be much better for you to

go first. Otherwise, I might destroy your confidence and cause you to lose your cool.

His response gave Alan a taste of his own medicine. On the sideline, Nathan Turner gave

Aiden a secret nod of approval. Although this kid looked gentle and calm, his words were

pretty cutting.

He was a natural-born trash talker. You! Alan gritted his teeth and said, okay, then we'll

see who gets the last laugh. Now, let the match begin! Mr. Turner, the referee for this

match, passed the ball directly to Alan.

Alan launched into a series of crossovers and behind-the-back moves, dribbling the ball

back and forth around his legs to show off his basketball skills, leading to cheers from

the crowd. So handsome! A few infatuated girls could not help but applaud loudly. With a

glare at Aiden, Alan stood back, adjusted his breathing, and took his first shot.

The basketball hit the backboard and bounced into the basket. The first shot was in!

Another clean shot again won a round of applause from the crowd. Alan smiled as he

managed to make four of the five attempts without much effort.

At the end, his free throw shooting percentage remained at a solid 80%. Wow, so

accurate! Alan will win with that, for sure! Even the boys could not help but admire his

shooting skills. Alan, unable to hold back the joy from his face, threw the basketball

directly at Aiden, calling, It's your turn! Don't worry, even if you miss all five, no one will

laugh.

As we all know, that's the level you're at! Remaining calm and silent, Aiden picked up

the basketball, weighed it in his hand, and then raised it above his head. What in the

world? What kind of shooting position is that? You can tell he's a complete novice. His

shooting hand position is completely wrong.

Even Nathan shook his head secretly in disappointment. He had been looking forward to

Aiden's performance, but now he was only waiting for the competition to end quickly

before announcing the results. Aiden squinted and concentrated on the distant hoop.

Ding! Auto-triggering of proficient level throwing ability. Detected target, basketball hoop. Throwing object, basketball.

Ding! Detecting the weight of objects thrown. Detecting wind direction. Adjusting wrist

strength.

The adjustment angle is... Shoot!
