Chapter 15 - 15. Hero Worship

With a beautiful swish,

the basketball passed unerringly through the basket without even touching the hoop. A

perfect shot! A strange silence fell around the basketball court.

The speculating student stood rooted to the spot, unable to react properly to the perfect

shot. What just happened? Did I see that wrong? Did Aiden actually make the shot? That

shot didn't look like it was taken by a rookie. Allen's expression froze and he screamed

inside, Impossible! This guy must have had some beginner's luck.

He definitely wouldn't make the next one. Aiden picked up the second ball and laughed

silently. As expected, his proficiency in throwing really did work wonders on his shooting

skills and basketball.

It seemed that the stones he had thrown that night had not been in vain. His face was

expressionless. He already knew the result of this challenge.

Swish! Sure enough, Aiden's second shot swished through the hoop. Wow! The crowd

could no longer conceal its astonishment. They began rooting for Aiden.

If one shot had been a coincidence, the two consecutive swishes proved that Aiden not

only knew how to play basketball, but was pretty expert. You really can't judge a book by

its cover. Aiden may look thin and weak, but look, what's he doing? Everyone looked up

and saw Aiden back away from the free throw line.

Aiden sighed. This distance is far too easy. I would like to challenge someone else to

shoot from farther away.

Mr. Turner, sir? How could Nathan Turner refuse his challenge? Filled with respect and

praise, he nodded. Aiden took a step forward and took his third shot. The result was the

same as the previous two.

Another swish! The students could no longer sit still. Jumping to their feet, they shouted

and cheered for Aiden. They were looking forward to something even more spectacular.

The other classes on the field were attracted by the commotion and started to crowd

around the basketball court. What's going on? Someone seems to be taking a shot. It's

just a single basket.

Is there really any need for these guys to cheer so loudly? A sturdy male student

carrying a basketball managed to squeeze through the crowd with much difficulty. At

that moment, Aiden was preparing to take his fourth shot. Looking at the distance to the basketball hoop, he shook his head and walked straight to the three-point line.

Sir, could I trouble you to pass another ball over? Bored now of the challenge, Aiden

wanted to end it as soon as possible. Since that was the case, he might as well do

something daring and flashy. Nathan passed the ball to Aiden with a puzzled expression,

not knowing what the kid was up to.

Aiden suddenly turned around with his back to the basket and closed his eyes. He then

raised a basketball in each hand and held them horizontally on either side of his body.

What? He wants to shoot backwards? No, he's taking a backwards blind shot from the

three-point line! As the two balls flew out from Aiden's hands, one after another, they

swished perfectly through the hoop as if they had wills of their own.

Five attempts. All five made it to the basket effortlessly. Even more mind-blowing was

that the final two shots went in such an unbelievable way.

The skeptical male student who had just arrived gawped, wide-eyed, his jaw dropping in

disbelief, unaware that his basketball had fallen from his hands. Exclamations, applause,

whistles, everything erupted. One after another, the students burst into cheers with no

sign of stopping.

None of them had ever seen anyone shoot a basketball like this. This was the stuff of

comics, right? Right now, Aiden was the most dazzling and respected player on the field.

The entire field had become a stage for his performance.

And Allen? He had long since sneaked away in utter humiliation and disappeared without

a trace. After the astonishing match, Aiden made a name for himself in the school and

became known as one of a kind. If Allen had known it would end like this, he definitely

would not have provoked Aiden.

Luckily for Allen, in a way, everyone had long forgotten about him. In the students' eyes,

there was only Aiden now. Almost all the male students present at the match surrounded

Aiden in admiration, excitedly asking him about his basketball skills.

Although the girls were more reserved, they looked at Aiden with admiration. Ding!

Detected affection from other people. Charm, plus one.

Current progress, one out of ten. Current level, beginner. Ding! Using basketball

techniques to arouse admiration.

Flirting skill, plus one. Standing apart from the crowd, Viola watched Aiden's expression

quietly, with a gentle smile, as if mesmerized by the spring breeze. Ding! Triggering

deep adoration.

Flirting skill, plus five. Current progress, twelve out of a hundred. You have leveled up in flirting skill.

Current level, proficient. The news from the sports field soon spread through the school

like wildfire. Many students looked out of the windows, wondering what had happened,

but were immediately reprimanded by their teachers.

In the class of senior year, somewhere near the window, a girl with a fresh temperament

and graceful posture was leaning down, in deep thoughts. It was the third day that Mia

Adams had been like this. Ever since that incident when Aiden saved her, all she could

think about was him.

She thought since they were both at Otis High, it would be easy for her to find him. But

the school had over 3,000 students, and Mia could not find the person she wanted to

meet in such a vast sea of students. She wondered if she had made some sort of

mistake, and seen wrongly that night.

Letting out a deep sigh, she murmured to herself, I hope I can see him again. At that

moment, a series of cheers suddenly sounded from a field outside the window. Looking

out, she discovered that everyone in the sports field had gathered at the edge of the

basketball court.

In the middle of the crowd stood a single figure. Mia was not too bothered about

basketball, but when she recognized the figure in the crowd, she suddenly stood up and

stared. It was him! The hero who saved Mia and left without telling me his name! Mia

Adams, do you have a question? Asked the teacher in the middle of a lesson, with a

dissatisfied tone.

S-sorry! Mia sat back down. She held a book in front of her, and kept her eyes on the

basketball court. Mia was absolutely sure that the figure was the person she couldn't

stop thinking about.

So much so that she couldn't even think about eating or drinking anymore. Flustered,

Mia nudged her neighbor. Hey, do you know which class is having that phys ed class

outside? She pointed in Aiden's direction.

Oh, you mean him? Her neighbor thought for a moment, and then took out a beautiful

notebook from her drawer. She flicked through a few pages, and her eyes suddenly lit

up. It's junior year! Huh? How do you know? Her partner proudly waved the small

notebook in her hand.

I am supposed to remember and take note of all the handsome male teachers' schedules

and classes! Do you see that teacher wearing a tracksuit? His name is Nathan Turner.

Such a tall and handsome man! Anyway, I'm absolutely sure that he is in charge of junior

year's phys ed right now. She suddenly stopped.

Mia, it can't be that you've also got your eye on Mr. Turner. All right, I'll bear with it and

give him to you since you're the class beauty. Mia ignored her words as her lips curled

into a mysterious smile.

Junior year, huh?
