Noticing three individuals in entering the scene despite the warning fence, an officer approached them.
"Hey! You folks are unauthorized to come into the scene. Get lost before it goes awry."
"Pardon our intrusion." The calm girl spoke with sincerity. "But something... awry will be happening hear and we need to handle it."
"Ha! Good one." The other girl chuckle.
"Are you making a joke out of me? You thing I will believe a your nonsense?" The guy grunted. "This isn't a play ground, bring that toy sword of yours along with your friends out of here this instant."
"This isn't a toy sword. It's a family heirloom."
"Your bragging won't work on me kid, this thing is clearly worthless-"
Suddenly, something hit sthe man on his torso. He felt on the ground after the girl knocked with up by simply using the handle of the seathed blade. Her headbangs blocked the light but the man could felt an eerie stare coming from her. It was as if she was looking at a cockroach. Her right hand gripped firmly on the scabbard.
"Kindly see yourself out... before I do it myself."
Frightened, he did not say a word before running away on his tail. The mysterious man let out a sigh then focused back on what they were intending to do. The night was calm, so was the girl's mind after taking a deep breath. According to him, a creature survived the collapse of a house and would strike at one of the officers around here.
She lifted her head and looked at the sky, reafirming the path she chose then went on with her work. The other two followed behind.
Two policeman approached them as they drew out their guns. They give the three people a warning shot, demanding them to surrender. But no one did, none of them felt the need to. Suddenly, a scream could be heard nearby. They all turned at where it came from and saw a man being tackled by a humanoid creature with gray skin. All the police was scared for life as they saw their co-worker dying. They tried shooting it but it didn't seem to flinch.
They panicked and ran, the monstrosity wouldn't simply let its preys get away like that. But when it leaped on the nearest feast it could get, something or someone put a stop to its attack. The creature was knocked by something long slamming onto its torso. The moonlight allowed the dark blue scabbard and handle to be seen and there she stood, a girl with a long deep blue hair.
"I'll be your oppenent for tonight, okay?"
As if throwing a tantrum due to having its dinner time interrupted, it screamed furiously. The creature leaped at its challenger and she did the same, initiating the battle between blade and claws. Her two fellow acquaintances watched as if the sight is a normal occurence. They proceed to make a small talk white watching the swordmaiden fought the creature.
"How much would you bet if she could beat that thing under five minutes?" Her voice sounded laxed.
"Come on now, I don't make bets anymore." The man sighed "I've faced the consequences of my actions."
"Oh right, it would be cheating if you were to use that."
The two of them continued watching their companion engaged in her battle. The moon lights on the street made it look like an outdoor stage play with the exception of the violence being the real deal. Somehow the policemen started watching as well.
The fight was rather intense, with its participants both leaping and lounging on each other while bringing forth the sharped weapon in disposal. The terrifying creature was persistent but she would not back down no matter what. Unleashed from the scabbard, the blade was ready to clash with the ferocious claws. She once again leaped forward, holding her sword next to her head. She did a horizontal slash but the creature dodged it.
As expect, the creature itself was different than those that she had slain. Well, most of them anyway. She has fought evolved ones with high reflex and a bit of intelligence so this wasn't any different.
However, in her previous battle with such creatures, it took her a bit too long to finish her enemy. Hence she wasn't up to multitasking. This time, she wanted to beat it quickly and with her blade alone. In other words, the creature that she had to deal with at the moment will be the stepping stone for her to rise in combat prowess.
The creature was attempting to attack her when she momentally lost balance after her failed attack. Unexpectedly, she bent her upper body downward and hit it with an upper slash. A scar could be seen on the creature's body, bleeding in white. All the training she had allowed her to immediately switch to another stance after a temporary lost of balance.
With the advantage at hand, the fight gradually leaned into her favor. The tip of the blade shone under the night sky, making it look like a dance. If the swordmaiden was a ballerina, she would be a lethal one, dancing til one falls in battle. In this case it wouldn't be her though.
Sensing the impending defeat, the creature let out a roar that attracted distant others of its kin. It no longer was a fair fight, but fighting a mostrosity never something fair to begin with. A horde of hungry gray skinned creatures raided the scene and surrounded the swordmaiden. Even so, she still trusted the potential of the blade and fought diligently. Not that they were strong however, in fact weaker than the one summoned them so slicing them up like minced meat was a piece of cake for her. Anyone watching who worried about her would end up flabbergasted.
The other girl wanted to join in the party but the man next to her stopped her, saying that it was not necessary. She had no choice but to stay still and watch her sword dancing companion to have all the enemies for herself. In the swordmaiden's POV, these creatures were no longer able to make her grow stronger once dealing with them was as simple as taking a stroll.
As if on cue, the evolved one came back and tried to surprise attack her from behind. Sadly for the feral being, her muscle movements managed to catch up. She dodged and right at the moment stabbed it behind the back. Thus, the victor of the battle emerged. She quickly dealt with the rest before giving the sharp blade a break after rapid collision. The blade smoothly seath itself in the dark blue scabbard. The policemen were still in awe, she did not heed their reaction regardless.
She approached her two companions and the three of them left before anyone else came to the scene. An inspector arrived not too long afterwards and asked them about their search. Some of them were still struggling to tell him what they saw, even sluttered a few words. But of course he believed none of it and told them to end the search there.
"Did you remember to take the soul shards?" The cheerful girl asked.
"Why of course. Something coming out of the grand tier is valuable." The sword maiden responed. "It seemed like... someone didn't collect his shard before we came to the scene."
"Can't blame him, he has yet to become one of us. But I trust he will, soon enough." The man wiped his lens as he spoke.
"You really think he can make it? Does he really have it in him?" Feeling doubtful, the smiling girl asked.
"Indeed, our guy has something special in him. I saw it with my own eyes after all." He chuckled.
"We've lost track of him for a while. Where do you think he went?" Swordmaiden asked, remaining as calm as ever.
"I think... westward."
"Then we shall head there."
"Can we grab some burgers on the way? I'm quite hungry right now."
"I agree with her, uncle. All that movements had taken quite the amount of strength from me."
"Very well."
Upon arriving at a small restaurant, they ordered their food and ate enjoyingly. The three didn't have dinner to due to being occupied with stalking god-knows-who. In the meanwhile, the sword maiden took out a faintly glowing sphere from her jacket which she referred to as a grand type soul shard. It's size fit her plam really well. She gripped it and her conscious was pulled into something like a different dimension. It was pit black all over the place, she couldn't tell which direction was which.
Suddenly, a holographic screen show up in front of her, displaying a scene of a girl being forcefully pulled away from her table in a restaurant. She screamed and resisted, even ended up wounding one of the guys. Her boyfriend was so scared that he hid his face. Her face was overlayed with shame and disbelief. She called out to him, but he pretended not to hear her. The guys sedated her and carried her away, apologizing everyone and the poor guy.
The scene suddenly changed into the same girl sitting in a room, surrounded by white walls around all four direction. She kept mumbling "Philip", possibly the name of someone she knew. She began crying profusely and kept saying such name as if it was her language. Then suddenly, a mysterious figure came in through the iron door and stabbed something into her before the replay became pure static.
"Young one, is there something wrong?" The man asked with sincerity.
"Nothing..." She nonchalantly contiued eating.
"Are you perhaps... concerned with the new guy?" Said with a teasing tone.
"I guess I am." She was startled by that but chose to dimiss such thing.
"I assure the two of you once more. This man didn't pick the wrong guy." He finished his burgers and drink.
As the man and the other girl chatted with each other, the swordmaiden was thinking about the poor soul who could have ended up like her and her companions had it not been for the mysterious figure and the thing they stabbed her with. Peeping into the memoir of the deceased was never something pleasant. Yet, the knowledge accessed was quite useful. She then redirected her focus on the task at hand, which was to observe the guy that the uncle asked them to spy on.
Would another one of them emerged from the unknown or would it be a mindless entity coated in blackness?
