In the following day, Bryce woke up as he was greeted by the sunlight from the window. A normal person would've already prepared themselves for another day either for school or work. But he was an entirely different case. After one month of being in prison, he was practically jobless. All the education he got was from the books he read, he had long dropped school in order to help Miss Lily. With her no longer in this world, what on earth could he do?
The police should've stormed this house long ago. But the blonde lad had the upper hand. During two years of criminal activites, he had always worn a thin mask that nicely covered his skin so that he looked like someone else with only the same hair. He only took it off after fleeing from the horde of ghouls, leaving Henry the policeman behind.
His cunning mind never managed to overpower fate however, or else he wouldn't be without the woman he loved by his side. Waking up, he brushed his teeth and washed his face. It was a bit late in the morning so the three people rested in his apartment must've left already. He came to the living room and saw a note left behind. It's content described the location and the time to meet before the operation.
It would really help if he could somehow know which kind of ability he possessed. Time would be the only one to answer, regardless. He watched the news on the TV, his escape was also mentioned among them but the face displayed wasn't his true appearance so it would be in vain. That was to be expected from a criminal kid with two years of experience. In no way would he lose to the self-proclaimed guardians of justice, he thought to himself.
He still had plenty of time before they met, so for the moment he went back to the place where the coffin was supposed to be and gave Lily a proper burial. He should've done that the night before but forgot due to the questions in mind. Holding in the urge to cry, he gave into the temporary moment of silence then left the place.
Eventually, he had lunch with fastfood. Suddenly he heard some knocking on the front door. He came to check and saw a mailman giving him a letter. He took it and opened it to see the content inside. It was sent annonymously, saying that someone would be watching him. Bryce wasn't sure who, but nothing could point out that it would be a bad omen.
Hours later, after taking a shower he went out of his apartment and headed to a museum. Then he noticed a familiar face waving at him from the restaurant on the other side of the street. Lucy and her companions had arrived early and were waiting for him. Bryce walked through the busy street and entered the place.
"Come and sit with us." Geofrey looked at him.
"Just a reminder, I'm not paying for that so don't even think about pulling me in it." Bryce looked back at him, remaning a distance.
"Don't worry. Uncle G will pay, right?"
"Indeed I will."
"Well..." Bryce let out a sigh. "I'm not eating anyway. Already stuffed myself with noodles."
Bryce took a sit and waited for the group of three to finish their dinner before getting into the job. He in the meanwhile, observed the entrance of the museum. It would be best to find a place to hide in the roof in order to pinpoint the routine of the guards safely. Then after the group of four was able to enter the restricted area underground, they must navigate carefully. If danger were to come, three of them would use their own gift and make it through. Bryce would be the only one to remain in hiding, as long as he wasn't seen, he would be safe.
That was the rough idea he had in mind. Geofrey seemed to have brought along a case possibly containing technical equipments for Bryce to use. As tasked, he would deal with hacking and security while the others would be on the move.
Finally, the three had finished eating. Lucy contently rubbed her belly while Mabel let out an almost silent burp. Geofrey called a waiter over for paying the bill. As the group exite the place, Bryce noticed that the museum had already closed for fifteen minutes. The time had come for them to act.
"Alright young one, you go to the roof and check out the guards from above. We'll be sneaking in right afterwards."
"Got it."
Bryce took the case from Geofrey and drew out a grappling hook. He climbed on the rope carefully and held on the concrete fence of the rooftop. He walked towards the glasses at the center while the others climbed behind. Geofrey took out some device that looked like a bettle while Bryce turned on the laptop taken from the case.
According to the man, the device in his hand was a remote hacking tool that allowed the user to remotely gain access to any device that they wanted to jailbreak. The first phase of the plan would be Bryce hacking while the other three capable of combat would take down the patrolling guards and search for the entrance to the below facility.
Removing some glass tiles, the two girls and the man descended to the ground while hanging on ropes. They went on separate ways in the museum for better searching. Hiding in the dark corners, they waited for the right moment to take down each of the guards. Mabel would take one down with her sheathed sword while Lucy had a small pipe in hand to make her opponents go unconscious with invisible darts. Geofrey unlike the other two, had a slience rifle disguised as a walking cane which would be useful for remote takedown.
Meanwhile, Bryce was trying to get familiar with the small laptop built only for the sake of technical affairs. A green text was displaying on the black screen, saying "stand by" due the laptop not being connected to any device at the moment. Still, Bryce never expected to see a laptop possessing the overall size of a pizza box. Of course, he knew that the abnormal aspects of life had yet to be done with showing themselves. The only difficult thing in the first part of plan would be not to raise any alarm, or else the place deep below would be notified and tighten the access. It would be harder for sure.
Bryce stretched his arm so that he could be ready for the handywork of his that others needed him for. Without knowing his awakened ability, that would be his only way to assist them.
While Bryce was readying himself, Mabel managed to take down a few guardsmen without being caught in the camera's field of vision. She was well-versed in using her sword in a fight so in the case of simply taking out somone, it was unnecessary to release the blade. By dealing a heavy blow to critical points on the opponent's body, she could make sure that they wouldn't wake up for a while. The handle of her sword was perfect for the job.
Lucy didn't look like someone fit for silent attacks, but the use of invisible darts created form her pipe was impressive. All the guards hit by the darts felt to the ground with their ears bleeding. Like her friend, she sneaked around safely though with a bit of mobility issue.
Geofrey being on his own, traversed through a hallway of displayed pieces of art without any trouble. Anyone who noticed his presence was hit on their head with a cane seconds after. He was as skilled with his cane like how Mabel familiarized herself with a sword. Though, it made him notice that there were many guards patrolling which would imply that something valuable was indeed hidden and whoever had it in their possession feared thievery.
It was likely not a coincidence that the security was so tight on the same day the group broke in. Perhaps the artifact was so valuable that some big company funded for the project with cash and part of it was spent on the security. That was the more reason for Geofrey and the others to steal the object. It should not fall into the wrong hands, else calamiity would strike.
Finally, he arrived at a peculiar looking elevator hidden behind a large portrait. He put the beetle-like device on the board of buttons next to it and signaled Bryce to begin his thing. Bryce noticed the screen said "connecting" then it showed multipe layers of protection walls. He begin with his attempt to crack the walls of code open.
Mabel managed to meet up with Lucy and Geofrey. With the men down, they only needed to wait for Bryce to unlock the elevator that required a pass word for access. With the given time to wait, Lucy proceeded to stretch herself after having to sneak so much. Unexpectedly some of the guards regain conscious, their eyes had a red glow.
"What the heck? They're ghouls?" Lucy looked confusedly.
"That's not the case, I was about to tell you that some of these guys are robots. I noticed it when I knocked one down."
An inevitable fight began to the three's surprise. At the same time, Bryce heard someone behind him as he tried to hack.
"Put your hands up!"
He ran away with the laptop and the security guard that happened to be outside of the musem chased after him. Bryce hid behind a wall and continued on. His pursuiter tried to search for him after losing sight of his location. Bryce cursed his life yet again, but then he found something else in the suitcase. It was a taser, not a normal one but a device that could be conveniently attached on the user's hand. The guard finally arrived at where Bryce was hiding, he saw him surrendering or at least he thought so. When they were in close proximity, Bryce tackled him with the taser on hand and knocked him unconscious.
After that he continued with hacking, eventually his attempt was a success and all the digital walls were broken down. He clicked the green button and close the laptop, putting it into the suitcase as he climbed down from the available rope. He looked around only to see sights of robotic parts being thrown away or severed, crushed. His three companions seemed to have just gone through a one-sided battle. The elevator was open, thus the group came in and descended to the hidden area.
