At the current situation, Bryce was still able to let out a chuckle. In the eyes of the policeman aiming his gun at him, the figure he saw belonged to a madman or rather something inhuman. His aura reeks of murderous intent as well as bitter resentment. One could say guns only did damage to the flesh but would be worthless against the uncontrollably burning madness of someone's mind.
"S-stay right there!" The policeman was trying not to be overwhelmed by the blind confidence his target seemed to possess.
"No can do. You might have something I need and I'd like to inspect."
"What is that supposed to mean?" Asked the frightened man.
"Like I said, you will see it soon."
Bryce immeditately threw his knife at the man. He tried shooting him but the bullet barely wounded his left arm to due him leaning his body to the right. The blonde lad lounged forward and tackle the momentarily vulnerable man. It had become a fight when the two of them struggled with each other's arms.
"Why hasn't anyone come over yet? The target's got me, someone please help."
"We... had an issue..." Came a voice from the other end responding through the communicator. "The floors are too slippery."
"W-what?"
Indeed, the other policeman where in fact dealing with the slippery floors prepared by yours trully.
"I did say no one will come for you after all." Said the blonde gripping the struggling wrists of the panicking policeman.
"P-please let me go."
"Can't, and don't think I didn't recognize you. You were the one usually bribed by my ex-boss."
At that very moment, the policeman remembered someone whom he often worked with requested him to make sure "the brat stays in his place" and all that. Yet currently, he was being overwhelmed by the very one that he must not let free.
"Now tell me, where is Eric? WHERE THE FUCK IS ERIC!!??" Bryce screamed, forcefully taking the gun from his opponent and pressed the tip of the barrel on his neck.
"I-I don't know! We met at a different location every time."
"Then contact him now!" Bryce remained his furious gaze.
"Okay! Okay! Just don't kill me!"
The oppressed police officer took out his smartphone and called the person referred to as Eric who happened to be Bryce's ex-boss when he worked as a member of the drug-selling company of the underworld. An eerie silence filled the room with only the sound of phone ringing could be heard. And then there came a deep voice from the phone.
"What is it that you call me this time?" The presummed Eric asked. "Are you eager to receive... extra pay?"
Bryce whispered into the guy's ears, telling him to act normally. The blonde himself showed a slight irritation on his face as he heard the voice that he spited for a month straight in prison.
"Yeah. Where and when will we meet?"
"A few blocks further into west of the city, where lies an abandoned factory."
"The usual? I hope you have the dough I'm in need for then."
Ending the call, the police man looked at Bryce with pleading eyes. Seeing that, he decided to have the man take him to the meeting location when suddenly... Before Bryce realized, the knife he threw earlier was plugged into his torso firmly which caused him to stagger.
The man took the chance to reclaim his gun then stood up as he focus on him. The tables had turned, Bryce was once again at a disadvantage. He blamed himself for being momentarily blinded by anger.
"Look at you now, brat! You were acting so tough earlier but a child is nonetheless a child."
The man laughted while kicking rapidly on his wounded body as he once again became the one with the higher ground. However, Bryce's mind was again haunted by the voice of the man he once worked for who betrayed him without a single explaination. The anger in him seemed to help him ignore the painful sensations that the policeman was inflicting on him.
Noticing that the young man was lost in thoughts, the bastard stomped on his face. For a police, he sure had some hedonistic tendencies, maybe even more than some drug-addicted scum on the streets.
"Hey little freak! Scared that you couldn't respond?"
Being snapped back to reality by the sensations of something dirty and utterly despicable on the skin of his face, he slightly growled. The bastard was instantly pleased by such attitude, feeling the neurotic satisfaction from bullying someone younger. He clearly wasn't a good student back in his school days, must've been expelled a lot or so Bryce thought in his mind. Bryce himself wasn't someone decent either and he never deemed himself as a good kid. That title only belonged to the fortunate ones who weren't struggling with life.
"Hey, aren't you afraid of tripping on your feet?"
"Trying to distract me, you little piece of shit?"
"Heh! You will wish that you should've tripped."
"Wha-"
Bryce kicked the nearby closet, causing the whine hidden on the top to fall off balance and poored its content all over the bastard's body. Distracted by the sudden wetness and the lingering smell on his outfit, he didn't notice Bryce throwing a lit match on his body. And then, the bastard shone as bright as a campfire, screaming in agony.
"I'll give you one finally advice before going to hell. Old habit dies hard."
The blonde lad helped himself up, looking at the masterpiece that he created. Despite not being a German, he found it pleasing. He left the burning man there, strutting away from the security room not before shutting off all the lights in the entire prison.
This also notified the ones struggling with slippery floor that the targetted inmate might have just gone away from the security room. Some of them already passed through all the slipperiness and went on the check the room, only to find a corpse of someone with unrecognizable features. Instantly, those patrolling on the outer areas were informed. They became more cautious than ever.
With the lights off, it would be easier for Bryce to sneak through the unaware personnels. As expected, the darkness was always a friend to those who wanted to conceal themselves from unwated attention. Bryce himself wasn't inclined to be the peacock of society either. The dark allowed him to choose the attention he deemed a necessity. Although in truth, only his caretaker noticed him while others pretended to be unable to see the truth.
'Miss Lily... get better soon. I missed your hug so badly.'
...
The two policemen that Bryce overheard ealier were drinking coffee together. As calm as they were, they had another idle talk. The two seemed really closer, having worked together in the same place for a long time and all. One was always intrigued by internet stories and the other preferred books but was quite the lenient and considerate buddy.
"Man, people have all kinds of interesting things to share on the net. We however have seen nothing interesting in particular."
"I'd like to suggest to share the current situation of the place right now but the higher-ups don't want to have their reputation ruined."
"Yeah, and people could easily look up for source of anything these days. I wouldn't want to be fired either.
"And I guess you would rather not sharing your dating story." The calm guy sipped on his plastic cup of coffee."
"Good thing polices exist to make media shut at least." The energetic one chuckled.
...
Bryce climbed outside through a window, looking around to see if there was any personnel happened to be nearby. The next step of his escape plan would be hiding inside a car, the best option would be to pick one belonging to someone about to end their shift. However, he doubted if anyone would be allowed to go home after the announcement saying that a criminal escaped from their cell.
Despite that, lady luck had decided to bless him with an opportunity as he overheard two policemen intending to hit a bar. In Bryce's eyes, it was a golden opportunity indeed. The bar they intended to go to was also located in the western part of the city as the location the dastardy policeman was supposed to meet Eric.
He waited for them to pick the car so that he could secretly get a free ride. The two of them were unexpectedly summoned by their supervisor to deal with something before ending their shift.
Once again, destiny wass a double agent.
Bryce cursed about how unfair his life had been. He knew that a life wouldn't be a life if no obstacles existed yet couldn't help disputing to absolutely no prticular individual. He sought comfort in darkness but not forgetting to hide himself away from the people patrolling the place as they walked with a gradual pace.
It was pretty tough for him to hold out. In no way would any of them believe that he had long gone from the prison if their deduction about the physical limitations of an average human were correct, which in fact they were. Bryce was just a growing human, his intellect might go beyond what people deemed normal but his body was a flaw if not a big one.
With all the time he had to spare, he wondered what would have happened to him if had not met Miss Lily, his lovingly caretaker. He might end up dead but it wouldn't be a simple one. Slowly and steadily he would suffer from lack of nutrition and outside bacteria that cruely wrecked havoc inside his fragile body. His being would cease to exist as he became overwhelmed with the cold both from the outside and inside.
He felt thankful for Lily to have saved him from such a deliberately painful experience. Every time he thought about her, a radiating warmth swelled in his mind. He knew the importance she had in his heart. Her everlasting kindness showed him that there could still be warmth even if it was faint beyond noticeable.
Luckily, the two policemen earlier finally showed up, the blonde hid inside the back of the car before they noticed. He could hear the sounds of closing door and the engine running. Never would one expect the successfully escape with a formed plan but no one would think to see a young lad breaking out of prison either.
And with that, the car drove out of the prison leaving the cautious guards behind. Also, the reason how the car pass through the gate guard without him being caught was that the owner of said car always stored his caught during fishing in there and they were kind of smelly.
