Hide-and-seek is a children's game in which one person covers his or her eyes until the other players have concealed themselves, after which he or she attempts to discover them.
It is so ancient that no one knows its origin, A very early version of it is called apodidraskinda in Ancient Greek, Julius Pollux, a Greek writer from the second century, was the first to mention the game. The game was played the same way then as it is now, with one person closing their eyes and counting while the other players conceal. This game was also discovered in an early picture from Herculaneum that dates back to the second century AD.
All 5 of us were playing the game which included Peter, Jack, Adrian, Leila and me, I was surprised that Leila also wanted to play with us, I mean she had become an adult 2 years ago and right now she is 18 years old, I know that she doesn't have any friend in the village or someone to talk in the village as she is busy taking care of Adrian and earning a wage for living.
Speaking of work Leila hand-knitted clothes and sold them to the families in the village, The scarf she had once given me was made by her hand. I later tried to give her money for it but she became angry and thought I looked down on her.
It was a lot of work to calm her down and I had to make funny faces to make her laugh, seriously who is the kid here?
In today's game, I was the seeker and had to find them on this dark night, It made me remember that at first Peter was very afraid to play anything at night as he thought he might just be spirited away and even eaten by some kind of monster. I was very amused when he told me with his teary eyes and it took a lot of effort to hold back my laughter.
Peter was someone who was very quiet in nature and started to tremble when hearing about ghosts and monsters, In simple words he was an Introvert, speaking of being a coward Adrian was a much greater coward but since the accident 3 years ago he was actively trying to change himself.
He was the first one to jump and agree when I told them that the excitement of Hide and seek is best enjoyed at night. At last, It would be Jack who was somewhat the leader of these 3, He had an outgoing personality and liked adventures. His favourite thing was to pretend to be a smart leader, I wouldn't say that he isn't smart but it's like he is more mature than these 2.
I never thought I would get closer to him but now I understand him and all these actions of his, I still remember that he was the one who had come up with the idea of bullying me but now we had put it in the past.
Jack had also convinced Peter to play this game and somehow Leila had tagged along with us, Now that I think about it Leila had probably come to play with us as a caretaker and make sure we didn't get in any trouble.
They started running and hiding in the village while I counted to 30, I had
thought of playing in the woods but Leila disagreed with me so I gave up and agreed with her.
I opened my eyes and started running at full throttle, I soon saw Peter who in panic tried to stick to the wall of a house so that I wouldn't see him, He probably didn't imagine that I would reach him so fast. It's true that my eyes might been closed but I still could hear their footsteps when they were going away from me. The ground in the village was soft so it left vague footsteps-I could easily track them by their footsteeps.
I felt pity for Peter that because I had chosen to find him first he didn't even have the time to hide, Peter looked at me in a daze and I turned my head away from him holding back my laughter.
I then started to find others, It might be hard for others to find someone just by their footstep but for me, it was easy as I had committed the shape and size of their foot in my memory before we had decided to play the game.
I quickly found Adrian who instead of being dejected became very happy when I found him, he sometimes scared me with his sparkling eyes which told me how great he found me to be which in fact was the opposite, I always thought he was more amazing than me.
I tracked Jack's footsteps but when I reached the end of his footsteps he was nowhere to be seen-I looked everywhere for him in the fields but I couldn't find him but then I noticed a scarecrow.
I stood in front of the scarecrow and deadpan looked at it, The scarecrow suddenly started to move scaring Peter away. It was Jack dressed as a scarecrow.
I sighed after looking at Jack who was glaring at me menacingly, he looked at me and asked"Hey-Be honest you are somehow cheating aren't you"I refused to elaborate and started to find Leila which was very easy as she didn't even try to hide her self.
The game was over and everyone was ready to go to their home-Leila sent everyone home by herself. I wanted to go home alone but Leila suddenly grabbed my hand and told me that no matter how smart or strong I was she would not let me go alone.
I sometimes don't understand Leila- she knew about my training and how torturous it was and she didn't try to stop me but she can't even let me go home on my own?
I didn't understand why I didn't reach for Myra and distanced myself from her, she tried her best to connect with me even giving me those games so that she would have a reason to talk to me.
I am always like this when things get tough I distance myself from others.
