Twenty-five years ago, one day, dungeons suddenly started appearing, and terrifying monsters came out of the dungeon gates. That era was filled with different kinds of monsters—air, ground, and water—they inhabited every place known to mankind.
Within six months of the monsters' arrival, humanity was 90% extinct. That era was filled with the cries of countless mothers who lost their children. Everywhere, monsters ran rampant, but humanity was not completely hopeless. They kept fighting until, one day, a select few individuals absorbed the mana coming out of the gates and awakened as hunters.
With everyone's efforts, humanity survived the total extermination of their race. Every country came together to form the International Hunters Organization to train hunters so this type of situation would never arise again.
Jake Miller's parents were top hunters who contributed a lot during that era and were known as the Legendary Heroes who helped save humanity.
(Present time)
Even though Jake Miller's parents were legendary heroes, he was just a normal B-class hunter. As a little kid, he showed tremendous potential, but as he grew older, his growth stagnated. Years went by, but his life didn't change until one night when his parents suddenly went missing.
Even the Hunter's Organization couldn't find any clues related to their disappearance. Time passed, and Jake accepted the reality that his parents weren't coming back. As a B-rank hunter, he was making enough money to live a luxurious life, but he still felt something was wrong and often thought of the times when his parents were with him.
Jake: I feel like their disappearance isn't so simple. I have a very bad feeling about the whole situation.
Jake thought to himself if his parents weren't coming back, then he would trace them himself or try to find the reason for their disappearance.
Jake: If I want to know the truth, then I would have to build my strength to confront the organization. I can feel they are trying to hide something.
This very doubt was going to be the motivation for Jake to move forward.
When Jake turned 20, he joined the Hunter's Organization as a team leader and went on many quests to earn his living. Even though his parents had left an inheritance for him, he refused to use that money for personal gain and instead invested it in the investigation.
One day, when he went to a B-rank dungeon to initiate a dungeon raid to rank up to an A-grade hunter.
(In front of the dungeon)
Mike: Alright, so here is your dungeon return stone. Break it if something goes wrong inside.
Jake: Hmm, thanks for the stone.
After receiving the return stone, Jake entered the dungeon. Inside, the dungeon was very slippery and slimy. A person could feel the unusual cold gusts of wind inside the dungeon.
Jake: Cold wind? Inside a magma dungeon? Something is wrong. Should I return using the stone?
Soon, Jake reached into his pocket to find it completely empty.
Jake: I might have left it somewhere near the entrance.
Suddenly, Jake heard some loud footsteps approaching in his direction at an abnormal speed.
Jake stood there, preparing for the impending fight. Soon, a giant green monster appeared in front of him. It had large claws and acidic saliva.
Jake: Wha- what is this thing? It isn't supposed to appear in this dungeon!
[Outside the gate]
Everyone gathered outside the gate and saw the blue gate suddenly turn red. Everyone panicked after seeing the red gate.
Mike: This situation is very dangerous. I have to call HQ to inform them about this red gate.
At that moment, only one thought crossed everyone's mind: "If it were to leak that there is a red gate near their city, people would surely panic."
Mike gritted his teeth and said in an agitated voice, "Red gate phenomenon happens when a gate absorbs excessive amounts of mana from the mana stream. Even the weakest red gates require a whole squad of B-rank hunters led by an A-rank."
Mike: Chances are close to none, but I still hope that Jake comes out alive.
Mike pulled out his phone and contacted the Hunters Organization to ask for backup.
[Inside the gate]
A scene filled with extreme gore was seen. Blood was splattered everywhere in the small tunnel Jake was in. His legs were chopped off by the monsters, and he crawled using his hands to escape, but to no avail. The monster grinned at him menacingly before quickly killing him.
Jake: Am I going to die like this? Is this the end?
Soon, Jake closed his eyes.
