"Captain Vaughn." I heard as I turned around. It was Captain Rex.
The members of Orange Company was currently running drills, hand-to-hand combat drills to be exact.
"Captain!" I said as I turned around and saluted him.
"At-ease" He said as he walked past me, watching the troopers fight.
"You've done great work with Orange Company, Vaughn. They've become much more skilled." Rex said and I nodded, but I also smiled. Receiving praise wasn't as normal in the clone army.
"Thank you, Captain." I said, Rex then turned around to face me.
"We've received word of an attack on Kamino.." Rex said, watching to see If I had any reaction.
"Huh, to think they finally grew the balls to attack Kamino. But to think they'd go after our origins, I could bet on the men being extra determined to fight to their deaths in that Battle." I said and Rex nodded.
"Indeed, the 501st Battalion will be heading to Kamino now, we'll defend our home planet." Rex said.
"Understood, I´ll have the men locked and loaded for the Battle." I told him and he nodded before walking off.
...
"Commence the Air strike." I heard Shaak Ti said.
"Alright, let's shore up our defences." I heard Cody said. We were currently in the command centre, alongside Rex and Kenobi. Anakin in his loyal fighter.
"Vaughn, take Lightning Company to the western bridges, make sure they don't push into the main building." He said and I nodded, grabbing my helmet and securing it on my head before rushing out alongside Lieutenant Tyr whom stood at the entrance. I also had a DC15A secured to my back.
The western quadrant buildings consisted of the trainings platforms, while the central one was the one that housed the DNA chambers and Barracks.
"Lighting Company, head towards the coordinates 03.02.-12, rendezvous with your Lieutenants and await my arrival." I said into the comms as I got onto an LAAT, and it began flying towards our area.
The Central Platforms had 3 other platforms around it, one to the south, one to the east and one to the west, and each of those 3 was connected by many other small ones.
So, most likely. The droid forces would attack those smaller, group up and then move onto the central one.
The central platform and the western central one was connected by 3 separate small bridges, about 10 men in width.
So, the strategy was simple. In this last month, I had made the entirety of the Shield Platoon into shield bearers, and made Dorian the heavy support platoon.
So, I'd send a Shield Platoon Squad to each of the bridges, supported by another Platoon. I'd then hold Fyre Squad of Shield Platoon back as the reinforcement to any struggling area.
And with that I spotted the area, where most had already been stationed before I even gave the command. The Lieutenants were gathering their men on the bridge, not only using the Shield Platoon as cover, but they had also put up other covers and obstacles.
An E-web had even been placed at the back.
I had devised a strategy to utilise the E-web turret.
The E-web turret was an extremely strong and efficient turret, shooting faster than a Z-6 and the bolts caused a lot more damage and had more strength.
But its weakness was its ammo crate, which if hit by laser could explode. It's why it was often used from cover.
But as a last resort, I had devised a plan to use the E-web for a few seconds, and before it could be shot at, the shields would envelop it, protecting it. And then randomly the shields would split and allow it to fire.
And use this multiple times. It would preserve the E-web and let us use it more, and potential wreck more damage than a single run with it.
And with that, we landed and I began shouting orders, preparing for our defense.
...
It took less than 3 minutes for our defences to be secured, and troopers placed.
"Captain Vaughn, status?" The female voice of Shaak Tii came through my helmet.
I brought my right hand up to my helmet, and holding down a button, clearing out outside noice and focusing on the incoming transmission.
"General, we've set up a defensive perimeter. The Seppies won't pass us." I said back.
"Good job, Vaughn. Excellent time, you beat the ARC Troopers time." She said and I chuckled.
Well, that was to be expected. Lightning Company was apart of the 501st Battalion, the Battalion to have faced most combat.
And although Rex and Anakin helped, I was responsible for training majority of our recent recruits. And therefore I had to set my own companies expectations higher.
"Thank you, General." I told her before the transmission cut out.
Just in time for splashing noises to sound all around us, I turned around. Just in time to see one of the Trident-Class Assault ships jump out of the water, before crawling over to the hangar, and piercing through it with their drills.
I turned around see about three dozen of the Trident's jump out of the water and land on the platform we were facing.
Fuck, If I'm correct then each of those trident-class ships carries 12 Aqua Droids, that's 432 Aqua Droids in total. So we're outnumbered about 3 times.
"All rocket launchers, fire at will." I said while holding my helmet button, which repeated the command to my entire company.
"Avoid the Trident´s already having deployed their troops." I said again, as 16 shots rang out.
Each Squad carried one rocket launcher for this mission.
4 of the rockets missed, and the other 12 hit 4 Trident's in total, 3 rockets per aqua. Taking 4 of them down. But then, another 6 jumped out of the water.
Oh my days.
"Alright, cease fire. Let's not waste our ammo." I told them through the comms.
And with that I stood back and waited, double checking my gears, DC15A, DC17 Blaster Pistol, helmet, grenades, and comms.
And soon enough, the sounds of marching appeared, and the next second, a singular door from the western platform opened, revealing marching Aqua Droids, marching towards the bridges.
As they reached within 5 meters of the 3 bridges, their formation split into 3 lines, each having 7 in width, barely leaving open areas on the sides.
"Open fire!" I shouted into the comms, and immediately after my men opened fire.
The members of Shield Platoon crouched down, and putting their shields vertically on the ground, it´s butt hitting the ground.
The men behind them then stepped forward, using the shields as cover to reload as we fought back.
I had no way of knowing their precise number, but droids were still marching out of the platform.
"Lieutenant Tyr, you're appointed strategic overwatch. Keep me update on major issues." I told Lieutenant Tyr as I stepped forward.
"Yes, sir." I heard from behind me as I rushed forward, intending to join the Battle.
I pushed through the clones behind cover, or standing in the open. Even medics waiting to assist any fallen brother, as I made my way towards the frontline.
And soon enough I found it, there laid 5 men on the ground, their DC15A touching the ground, but slightly going through the gaps in the shield wall.
Meanwhile, there also stood 7 men above them, using the shields as cover when under suppression fire or needing to reload.
I arrived just as a man apart of Eagle Squad was shot down, a Lance Corporal if my eyes didn't deceive me.
"Man down, get the Lance Corporal out of here!" I shouted, as he was dragged away from the battle by a medic.
I then stepped up and took his place, my DC15A lifted and placed on top of the shield wall as I crouched down and aimed.
Finding my aim, my finger pressed down the button and the recoil hit my shoulder, as a blue laser exited the barrel.
