Meliora's eyes narrowed as if she was weighing something in her mind. Her gaze remained fixated on the book in her hand. She turned a page absentmindedly, then looked up at him with a wary expression.
"Why do you want to know?"
She asked in a guarded voice. Conrad leaned forward and looked at her right in the eyes.
"I just…I want to understand you"
Mel's blue eyes slightly widened, there was even a flicker of genuine surprise flashing across her face.
"Understand me?"
She repeated, her usual stern look slipped away for a moment. Connie shrugged, trying to keep his tone as casual as he could.
"Yeah, I mean this is the reason we're here, right? To get to know each other a little better?"
