As the searing pain in Geraldine's body finally began to ease, she leaned heavily against the cold wall. Her breath came in shallow and labored gasps. The red corrosion on her face was still visible and ached painfully, but it had stopped spreading.
Her legs felt weak but with a deep breath, she pushed herself up from the ground. And wiped the remaining tears from her face with the back of her hand, pushed herself away from the wall, then began to walk down the corridor.
