Lady Emily gazed at Daemon as he lay motionless in a pool of horse blood, waiting for him to awaken. When he finally stirred, she greeted him with a gentle smile.
"You're awake, thank goodness! I was so worried about you." Daemon's eyes widened in horror as he took in his surroundings.
"What happened? How did I get here? My head is throbbing!" he exclaimed, wincing in pain. Lady Emily's expression turned sober.
"You have more to worry about than just your head, Daemon. I have devastating news to share with you. The boy is no more. Your son, Daerion, is gone." Daemon's face froze, his eyes wide with shock.
"What do you mean? How did this happen?" Lady Emily's voice was laced with feigned sadness.
