After talking to Cain, Lord Mephisto left the study. He started heading toward the highest room in the castle to attend the council of elders. Upon entering through a grand entrance, he found himself in a spacious room with an oval table in the center. A short old man with a white beard was sitting there.
"Elder Zagan" greeted Lord Mephisto with a bow. Then he took his seat and waited in silence.
In the next ten minutes, people started coming one after the other. Elder Zagan didn't utter a word until the fourth person entered and took his seat.
"Today we are having a meeting due to an attack on our family's heir by assassins within our territory. Furcas, you are the one responsible for monitoring the territory. You can start by telling us what happened" said Elder Zagan with an indifferent look on his face.
Elder Furcas, sensing Elder Zagan's impatience, began his report without delay. "This evening, I noticed two unknown Rank 2 Greater Devils heading toward young Cain's location. After swiftly capturing them, I found that they were devil puppets. I promptly informed Mephisto," he stated. "After investigation, we discovered that Felix Aatrox used the son of Count Orias to lure the young heir towards the assassins' location."
"How intriguing" remarked the sole woman seated at the table.
"This is a clear breach of the family rules. I think he should be executed as an example so that nobody dares to do something like this again," stated a middle-aged, muscular man.
Lord Mephisto gritted his teeth and said, "Elder Andras, that's inappropriate. After all, he is still a member of the main family line."
Even though he attacked his brother, Lord Mephisto didn't wish to kill his own son. After all, it is very difficult for infernal lords to have children.
Elder Thalgrim remained impartial, but after considering that Elder Zagan is a Rank 6 law creator and the strongest in the room, he asked, "What should we do, Elder Zagan?"
"Same as usual, I won't take part in this. The four of you should vote, and Elder Izanami will act as a tiebreaker," replied Elder Zagan. Elder Izanami is the only woman in the room and she is a Rank 5 Infernal Overlord.
Elder Andras was the first to speak, saying, "Who else thinks that he should be sentenced to death?"
After some silence, Elder Thalgrim replied, "I also think that a death sentence is the most appropriate punishment."
After hearing this, everyone looked at Elder Furcas, awaiting his decision. Without making them wait too long, he stated, "Punishing him is necessary, but a death sentence is a bit too harsh."
"So I will be the one deciding his fate. Mephisto, as his father, you can do whatever you want with him" exclaimed Elder Izanami, with a bored look on her face.
Lord Mephisto looked at her gratefully and said, "Thank you for your consideration, Elder."
"So it's decided. You can take your leave," concluded Elder Zagan. As for Will, they didn't even utter his name. A vassal attacking his lord is a clear death sentence.
Everyone stood up, bowed toward him, and left the room.
While the elder was having a meeting deciding the fate of Felix, Cain was sitting besides his mother in his bedroom.
"Cain, can you forgive your brother?" asked Venelena, with a hint of expectation in her eyes. Cain looked at the ground in silence, unable to utter a word.
Venelena's hopeful question hung in the air, yet Cain's silence hinted that reconciliation between them might be a distant dream.
"You know, my parents left this world when I was still very young. Even though I was born into the noble Belial household and didn't have to worry about anything, I didn't really know what it means to have a family until I met your father. So, I did my best to keep a warm atmosphere in our house, but it seems that I failed miserably." uttered Venelena with a voice filled with sadness.
Venelena's words carried the weight of a painful past and a sense of responsibility for the present atmosphere in their home. Despite her noble upbringing, her early loss had left a void that only the presence of Cain's father had begun to fill. Yet, the fighting between her children left her with deep disappointment and sorrow.
After some inner struggle Cain finally said" If Felix dosen't get in my way anymore, i will act as if he dosen't exist"
Venelena visibly became relieved after hearing this. After kissing Cain on the forehead, she left the room. She knew that this was the best possible outcome. With Mephisto's presence, the Council of Elders would not sentence Felix to death, opening up the possibility of reconciliation between him and Cain in the future.
'The best possible outcome for Felix is to be send to the military, sooner or later mother will forget about him, when that happens it will be the time to get rid of him' though Cain in his heart with a cold and indifferent face.
He may seem warm and friendly on the surface but he is a very rational person and he won't hesitate to get rid of any person who showed hostility toward him.
