He hit the hammer on the man's toes. The man screamed in pain. Ethan hit his legs and feet again and again until there was blood all over the floor. The man begged, screamed for help, and cried, but all in vain.
Ethan now picked up a knife.it was a sharp and a big knife. He tilted his head and watched the man in blood, breathing heavily.it was a pleasant sight for him.blood was coming out from his legs and feet.
The light bulb was flickering continuously.
Ethan grabbed the man's hair and made him face his eyes.
"Don't worry. It's about to end," Ethan said.
Then he stabbed him in the stomach. He stabbed again and again. The man didn't protest. He accepted the pain, as it was the only way to escape this nightmare.
"Good night, forever," Ethan whispered in his ear.
Blood came out of the man's mouth as he coughed. Everything became blurry, then dark. He was dead now.
Ethan watched the dead man for a while, then placed the knife on the table and started to walk upstairs. He was covered in blood.
He turned the shower on. The blood slowly washed away from his body and clothes. He was there, but his mind was somewhere else, somewhere far away.
He stood there for a long time.
He changed his clothes, grabbed a bottle of water, and drank. Then he went to his room and laid down on his bed. He was staring at the ceiling, then at the window. It was dark, dark and cold. He stared and stared...
The phone rang. Ethan picked it up. He didn't know when he had fallen asleep. It was morning.
He answered the call.
"Hello!"
"Ethan, my son! How are you doing?" A lady's voice came from the other side.
He remained silent for a moment.
"Why did you call?" His voice was low and sleepy.
"Can you come to see me? I want to meet you.....please!" his mother asked.
"Okay" he replied shortly and hung up.
Ethan parked his car and entered his mother's house. It was an old yet beautiful house, not too big and not too small, perfect for four to five family members.
He was in his mother's room. His mother was lying on the bed. Her health was not good. Her name was Ava. She gave her son a warm smile.
Ethan sat on the chair next to his mother's bed. Both remained silent for a few moments.
"I told you to come and see me once a month... but I think my son is too busy to see his old mother," she said, still smiling.
"Are you dying?" He looked up and found his mother still smiling.
Ava was a woman who had never been happy in her life. She had never smiled at her son before. She always looked sad and silent.
They both had never shown any pleased expressions on their faces all their lives, but there was a difference in their faces.
Ava always looked lonely, sad, pitiful, and her eyes were always filled with regrets and resentment.
On the other hand, Ethan never looked sad, hurt, or pitiful. He always looked cold and empty, his eyes filled with rage and hatred.
Ava took Ethan's hand in hers, embracing it slowly and warmly.
"Ethan, will you do me a favor?"
"What?" he asked, looking away from his mother's eyes.
Ava grabbed something from under her pillow and gave it to Ethan.
It was a picture, a picture of a girl standing on a mountain, smiling brightly in the rain. Behind the picture, something was written.
"She is my brother's daughter. Take care of her for me, will you?" She was now looking outside. The snow was falling slowly. It was beautiful outside.
"Is this your last wish or something?"
"Hmm... my first and last wish from you."
Ethan scoffed.
"Do you think I care about what you wish?"
Ava now faced her son.
"My son, I wish I could have done better. I wish I had been strong enough to protect you... my son, my only child... I never hated you. I always prayed for you. I love you, my child." Tears fell from her eyes.
The words didn't effect him. He was not a person to get happy with these kind of words.
"But I hate you." he glared at her mother.
Ava was still smiling, her eyes teary.
"Don't smile like that.it disgust me" Now he got annoyed and irritated.
"I....am sorry.....for everything " she cried.
"Don't forgive me... ever. Don't love me. I am bad... I've always been bad."
Now it was silent, just the sound of wind and snow outside.
"I love you... my child... Ethan." She was looking at Ethan. She closed her eyes. She was not in this world anymore. She escaped everything. She was free from every pain.
Ethan sat there, still....
