Hanna was sitting in her wheelchair in the shade of a big tree. It was cold outside, and she was watching the snow fall to the ground. It was a beautiful scene to look at. The hospital was located in the mountains, and you could see the lakes and the fields below. Perhaps now everything was covered in snow, but in the summer, it was beautiful.
She liked the rainy and winter seasons the most. Everything getting washed by the rain made her feel like her worries were also being washed away, and in winter she liked how quiet and cold life became there. The breeze was cold, but she sat there anyway, knitting a sweater. It was almost complete, just one more day of hard work.
She was wearing warm clothes with a red scarf around her neck. Her hair was tied in a loose, low bun, with short strands falling free, making her look elegant and simple.
"I knew you were here. Look what my mother gave me. She said my uncle visited her and brought this as a present for my birthday," Ella said excitedly. She had looked for Hanna everywhere to show her the beautiful bracelet with a green square gem in the center of it.
It was beautiful.
She handed it to Hanna, who took it and smiled.
"It's so beautiful, Ella. And it'll look great on you." She gave it back to her.
"I know it'll look great on my wrist. My uncle handmade it. Next time, I'll ask him to make one for you too." Ella sat on the bench next to Hanna and gave her a bright smile.
"No, you don't have to. I have a bracelet someone gave me, and it's handmade too." She pointed at the bracelet she was wearing—a friendship band that Ella had made two years ago.
"Ah, yes, you do, and it's a shame that mine got lost and I couldn't find it," Ella sighed. "But no matter what you say, I'm not going to wear this one until you get one too," Ella said with a promising smile and Hanna laughed at this. She was a good friend of Hanna's in the care home. She was the only one Hanna talked to. Everyone else in the care home looked at her strangely, which is also why she became so close to Ella. They were great friends. Hanna was precious to Ella as she was the first friend Ella had ever made.
"I remember! Someone came to visit you. Marry told me to bring you inside."
Ella stood up and started to move her wheelchair in the other direction. "I was wondering why Ava hadn't come for two months. It's good she came," Hanna replied with a smile.
"Marry told me a man is here to see you, not Ava," Ella corrected her.
"A man? Who? I don't know anyone besides Ava." Hanna turned her face back to Ella with confusion on her face.
"I didn't see him. Maybe you knew him in the past. You don't remember anything from your past, right? Maybe he can help with that too."
Hanna was confused and shocked. All these years, no one had come except Ava. She was the only one Hanna knew.
When she entered the room, she saw a man standing there, facing the window. Ella smiled, winked at her, and stepped out as she closed the door. Hanna's room was a reflection of her—warm and cozy, small yet simple.
"Umm...hello...may I know who you are?" she asked the man. There was no response.
She moved her wheelchair forward. "Excuse me?" she called to him again.
He turned to her. Hanna saw his face. It was Ethan.but she didn't knew him.
It was her first time seeing a man like him—a man who held a strong aura. He had black hair falling on his forehead, dark black eyes, and fair skin.
"Are you Hanna?" he asked in a low yet firm voice. Hanna was now more confused. How did she know him? Was he a friend? Family?
"Yes, I am Hanna. Do I know you? Have we ever met before?" she asked him.
"Do you know Ava?" He asked her another question.
Hanna was now more shocked. How did he know about Ava? The man sat on the chair and examined Hanna.
"I know her. But why are you asking that?"
"She died," he said. Hanna was stunned. She felt like she was frozen, like time had stopped. She became quiet for a few moments.
"How do you know?" she asked, looking down at her hands. A tear fell on her hand.
"She WAS my mother." Now Hanna looked up at him.
"You're her son? So you're Ethan?" she asked.
"So she told you about me. Well, I came here to tell you that she won't come again to see you," he said as he stood up.
"Do you know who I am?" Hanna asked, a question she had never asked anyone before. She never felt like this. She had thought someone would come and tell her everything. She hoped someday Ava would tell her who she was, how she lived, and how she ended up here. But Ava never said a single word. She was kind and caring and always said it wasn't the right time.
Now she wasn't there. Not in the world anymore. Who would tell her about her existence? This man? Would he?
"I do," he said, smirking.
"Then will you tell me?" she pleaded with her eyes.
"I'll think about it—next time," he said as he walked away, leaving Hanna with a pile of questions.
