Someone came to see me, it was Ode.
University had already let out for the holidays, and my thesis submission had been specially postponed. Ode came to Paris, had taken care of all my school leaving procedures, and also terminated the lease on my flat. She had even packed up my belongings and stored them at the office of the Chinese Students' Union.
She had done everything so thoughtfully, I didn't know how to thank her. I owed her and her brother so much, I didn't know if I could ever repay them in this lifetime.
Ode handed me a cigarette, and lit one for herself as well. We sat in the garden.
"When Zuzu had just left us, I told myself that I would never see you again." She blew out a ring of smoke, "My good little brother.
But later I thought, if he were here, Zuzu would have done the same for you."
