Chereads / Chronicles of the Six Blades / Chapter 7 - The Coliseum

Chapter 7 - The Coliseum

"Whoever would come to watch these gladiator battles?", is the statement that Facades made as he entered into the Coliseum present in the megapolis that his library was a part of. "I just want to be to myself for some time, and get this change of pace. I do not want to engage with the Advisor again." Those were the main thoughts flowing through his mind at that point.

The Coliseum in the sub-space is different from the others, for it does not have real gladiators fighting to the death or participating in fatal activities for the nobles and royals to partake in their enjoyment. Rather, this was created to ensure that the shades' powers can be tested without destroying the spaces outside, in turn destroying important locations in the mind. Recovering those places is akin to impossible once the mind's spaces get destroyed.

Facades went up to the podium of the field area and stood there. He wanted to see how much of his lies could now be penetrated so he fashioned a dummy created from some slimy particles, and fashioned them as a test dummy. A dummy with a barely functioning brain.

Meanwhile, Advisor was ready to depart from Gatherer now, after calming him down. "It would be so much better if you got to expose your powers. Why don't you head to the Coliseum?", he told Gatherer.

Gatherer knew that Facades was already present over there, and thought it would be a golden opportunity for them to 'bump' into each other and apologize for their behaviour at the Table. Gatherer knew that he was the youngest of the Blades, and therefore to earn everyone else's trust, he would need to put in a lot of effort himself. Taking the Advisor's advice, he headed towards the Coliseum to test his powers, but more importantly, meet up with Facades, so that they can get back to good terms.

As he entered the Coliseum, the menacing aura that the Second Blade possessed was overflowing and filling up all the seats of the area like a dense fog. It clouded the area like clouding judgment. All Gatherer could think to himself at that point, was the fact that this was the same kind of smog that he was emitting when he was on the verge of a meltdown, and Subconscious came to rescue him.

"Why is he trying to cloud his judgement right now? Is he trying to attempt something? Or is he intentionally misleading everyone else to test out a theory that he had?", Gatherer felt nervous. Since he was an information storehouse, not having information on a particular matter always seemed to bother him. He grew more anxious and nervous until he finally decided to snap out of his fear and head into the dense fog.

"Is anyone there?", he exclaimed, though he already knew the answer to that question.

Facades stopped clouding the nearby area and started moving the smog around, clearing it little by little. "Who called? Why are you here?", he questioned the voice that he had just heard.

"Relax, I am presuming that it's you Second Blade?", Gatherer slowly got the courage to continue.

"Yes, it seems that I may have spooked you a little Sixth one.", Facades rose from the smog and the two of them exchanged rather formal greetings.

"I expect that you do not have any problems with me over here?" Gatherer curiously asked.

"Don't worry about it. I just wanted to test something out. I know that we are all meant to be taking a break from everyone, but that shouldn't disallow us from doing things that we were going to be doing. So please wait, until I can finish the task at hand.", Facades replied.

"I am here for you…"

"I am sorry, what?"

"I wanted to speak with you, Facades."

"What even do you want from me? I can't do anything about what has already happened. It's all happened already."

"I know, and that's why I want to apologize for my brutish behaviour at the table."

"Brutish behaviour? That does not fit well at all with the work that you do. That would fit what Insanity usually does during the Table's meetings."

"I am just sorry. I do not want us to continue fighting amongst ourselves. I mean there's only seven of us, with the six of us being shades. How much longer do we continue suffering ourselves, until we can finally begin to gain the trust of each other and work on helping others?"

"I- I do not need apologies. I just want the recovery to take place. If it means that you have mended your relationship with me, I will take that apology. Otherwise, I do not need apologies."

"Your words sting me, Facades. However, we are still part of the same mind space. We are still the same being. Fear not. I just want to be able to understand what is going on with how you are thinking, so that we can align ourselves, and make ourselves better for the main body."

"That sounds interesting. So you just want me to forgive you, for your behaviour at the round table?"

"Yes, that would be greatly appreciated!"

"I see, then apology accepted. I just want us to be what we were earlier. I want us to mend what we've lost."

"The imagination that exists in this place is so wonderful. You can go from having the most fun, to testing your limits, as well as breaking down at the silliest things possible in this space, don't we."

"Right. That is also what makes us so omnipotent in this dimension. We are the ones in control of the game itself. Everything bends to the way we want it to bend. Tell me Gatherer, where are you currently residing?"

"I am living in a dungeon present underground. Information should usually be kept locked, so I wanted to lock myself underground like a safe, and when you guys all made up and wanted me back on the table, I thought you guys would free me up."

"I am currently residing in that library over there. I wanted to read up on the different characters that I may have to portray, sucked up on the knowledge that I might need to remember, in the off-chance that I need to spin lies that would work in my favour."

"So, we both picked locations that would be benefitting the work that we do. I am guessing that the others also picked similar locations. Everyone has got their work to be done."

"That may be true. Everyone is certainly doing their level best to improve before showing up to the table again. They don't want everyone to fight again, and they want to be the one who puts an end to the entire debate."

"That may end up working in their favour for some time, but all shades are the same. They all mostly have the same goals. There's no one else to worry about."

"What I am currently worried about is the state of the outside world. That is what concerns me more than anything. From the panic attack to losing the one you love… It must be hurting everyone, even those who are new to the entire thing."

"I just wish that we were back to having the same lovely meetings that we used to. I… I don't want to be like this anymore. We are part of one of the most insane creatures that could walk in this multiverse. Nothing compares to the power that we all seven hold. No one should be afraid of us. Yet some are, and we cannot do anything about them. All we can do is await patiently, as we silently look at the work that we have done and hope for the best to take place."

"Then let us hope for that, my fellow Blade"
