Chapter 4 - Pan Sa-Rang

"Your a level 10?? That can't be possible. You're lying, the only highest recorded Magical being's level is 7! And that was Iwata Yuji in 1598! If a level 10 was discovered, the world would be in a-"

"Stop shouting." I said to her. There are always cleaners around 10 minutes after we finish our classes. And there could still be some students outside who could possibly hear her yelling out my real Level.

"How could I not?! You can't be serious, a Level.10 magical being isn't possi- mph!" I put my hand on her mouth to stop her from saying anymore.

"Could you be anymore loud? There could still be people here." She stared at me for a couple seconds before grabbing my arm and yanking it away.

"Don't put your hand on my mouth, Sang." she said, her eyes narrowed. Her face was a little flushed.

"Don't tell the whole world about my Level."

She sighed. I understand her shock, me being a Level.10 Magical being and all. The highest recorded Magical being was Iwata Yuji, a Level.7. He was an Attack type Magical being with Ice powers. He had shocked the world with his overwhelming powers and had single-handedly ended a war between Japan and Russia. He was a legendary Attacker, known as the strongest being to ever exist in the Human species. We were supposed to learn about him next class, but I had done research on the 3 legends, in hopes of being weaker than them.

"Sang Kija, why are you keeping your power secret? Your powers are far too great to keep it under wraps. Even Iwata Yuji didn't have the skill to switch from Attack type to Defense or Mage type. And your powers could save humanity against the monsters. What if they break through the Elirac and cross over to our dimension?"

I knew how much my powers could benefit us. But I also knew that it would hurt the world more that benefit it.

"Say, Chung Seo-Hyeon. If I revealed my Level to the world, do you really think that it would to more good that harm?" I stared at her. We had been standing for at least five minutes.

"What are you trying to say?"

"Would it do more good than harm? I understand what benefits my powers could do for the world. I could defeat the monsters with little to no effort. I could bring Korea to the top. I could stop wars. I could do so much amazing things."

"You could do so much, so why not?" She stared at me.

"By revealing my powers, I could ruin the balance the world has come to know. If I wasn't suppressing my powers all the time, the monsters who had lost interest in us humans would see me as a threat to them and want to eliminate me. Countries would go to wars, fighting over who controls my power." I explained. "I also have personal reasons as to not wanting to reveal my true Level."

She fell silent. What could she say to that?

We walked to the end of the hallway in silence. We opened the doors and looked at each other.

"Can I call you Seo-Hyeon-ah?" I asked with a smile. She looked at me with a confused face.

"Would you think we're close enough to give each other nicknames?"

"You know my secret. I need to keep you close in my circle now." I replied, opening my bag and reaching for my phone.

"You don't trust me?"

"Why should I, we just met. Oh, and your gonna tell me something in exchange now that you know my level."

She furrowed her brows. "Okay, what do you want to know?"

"Before I ask you, give me your contact info. If I wanna keep you in my circle, I'm gonna need your number."

She reluctantly agreed and took out her phone. After exchanging our numbers, She asked again.

"So, what do you wanna know?"

"Sa-Rang!" I yelled from a distance, waving my hand so she could see me. I was determined to tell her how I felt on this walk. I didn't know if she felt the same way, but I had to ask.

Pan Sa-Rang and I were childhood friends. Our parent's had brought us together with the idea of marriage in mind once we were of age. At first, I was completely against the idea. I didn't want to marry some girl I'd never met before. My father and Mother, who was alive at the time, suggested we spend some time together before making any final decisions.

I was surprised Father had let me have a say in it. Usually I didn't get to decide what I wanted to eat, let alone have an opinion on my marriage. But I agreed to their compromise and she started coming over every Sunday. The first few Sunday's were filled with silence and occasional small talk. On her 4th visit, I decided to get a sketch book and draw a red bird that was chirping from right out my window.

I was playing music in the back ground and was too immersed in my art to notice her staring at my sketch from behind me. "That's pretty good."

I jolted out of my trance and stared at her. "How long have you been there, Pan Sa-Rang?"

"I just got here," she responded. "Anyways, that sketch is pretty good. Do you draw in your free time?"

"Yeah, It's calming from me since I' at home all day."

"Are you homeschooled?" She asked.

"Yes, I am."

"So am I!" she claimed. "I want to experience what it's like, a real school."

"So do I. I can't stand being chained here. It's so boring." I expressed. I truly was sick of always being stuck home.

She smiled at me. That's when I noticed her eyes and how golden they truly were. They looked really pretty in the sunlight. Her hair was very red, too.

She started a conversation and we were both laughing. She was funny and sweet. I liked her personality.

Ever since that day, the barrier between us seemed to have crumbled. We both saw each other clearly with it's disappearance. We told each other everything and talked about every random little thing. I was there when her parents divorced, and she was there for me when Mother died. I cried silently while she hugged me the for an hour straight.

With some time, I started to find her a lot more beautiful than usual. I started looking forward to Sundays. I started thinking about her a lot more than usual. It took me a while to understand what those feelings were.

Three years after we first met, when we were both 12, my father asked me if I would marry her. I said yes, because I did. I really loved her, and the feelings only grew from there.

We were talking about our childhood when we started our journey home.

She brought up her 4th visit, when we had first started talking to each other and I couldn't help but smile. She looked so happy talking about how she was sneaking up behind me while I was drawing.

"You looked so calm while drawing, Sang-sii. It was so nice to watch." She grinned at me.

"You gave me a scare when you suddenly complimented me. I hadn't even noticed you were there" I felt my face grow warm.

"You always look lost in your art," She commented. "It always feels like your searching for something something in them."

She coughed softly, and told me we had to speed up or she'd get a cold. I took off the hoodie I had put on when I parted ways with Seo-Hyeon-ah and gave it to her.

"How chivalrous," She teased, putting on the hoodie. "I'm jealous of who gets to be girlfriend"

"Oh, yeah?"

"Oh, I'm so jealous. Your gonna treat her like a princess, I bet."

"Really, then why not date me?"

She jokingly rolled her eyes. "You'd have to ask me out, Sang-sii"

"Then go out with me."

She stopped walking. "Sang, was that a joke?"

I remained silent. "Sang, are you joking?" she asked again with a sense of urgency.

I stared at her with a simple smile on my face. Her face, on the other hand, displayed nothing but shock.

"Sa-Rang, will you go out with me?" her face broke out into a smile.

"Yes, ye-!" Before she could finish her sentence, a dagger pierced her back and came straight through her heart. My eyes widened. She fell forwards to the ground, a smile still on her face.

My eyes darted towards the tall figure behind her, a dagger dripping with blood in it's hands.

Dripping in blood.

Sa-Rang's blood.

Sa-Rang's blood was on that dagger.

I looked down. Sa-Rang's blood had formed a pool. My Gray hoodie was stained with her blood.

My mind went blank. Sa-Rang was on the floor. She was dead.

No, no she can't be dead.

She's on the floor, dead.

She isn't dead!

She wasn't moving. The blood pool was getting larger. She was dead.

I lunged at the figure with all my might.

That thing killed her.

In an instant, the figure blocked my attack and started chocking me.

"Don't worry, I won't kill you" the figure muttered. I couldn't break away, it's grip was too strong.

It pulled out a syringe with golden fluid and stabbed me with it in my arm. It injected the fluid into me and suddenly the pain subsided. My mind was going blank. My vision went black.
