Chapter 14 - It’s really just for the children

When Ning Yechen hurried back to the wooden house, he noticed a beautiful figure speeding towards him. He smiled slightly, fell into the woods from mid-air, and walked slowly instead.

After a while, Luo Ruying appeared in front of Ning Yechen, clearly relieved.

"Great, I finally found you."

Seeing Ning Yechen safe and sound, Luo Ruying breathed a sigh of relief. However, his calm and carefree demeanor made her feel a twinge of irritation.

Worried about potential monsters in the vicinity, she had first sent Luo Hongye home and then hurriedly set out to find him. To her surprise, he was doing just fine, looking happy and carefree, without any sign of crisis.

Luo Ruying rolled her eyes at Ning Yechen with mild reproach and said, "Next time, don't go dealing with bugs. It's dangerous around here!"

"Are you so worried about your husband?" Ning Yechen asked playfully.

Luo Ruying's face flushed red. "I-I just don't want the child to lose her father..."

"Huh? Is it really just for the children?" Ning Yechen inched closer to Luo Ruying, his smile growing more suggestive. They were so close that they only needed to take another step to touch.

Luo Ruying's heartbeat quickened. She took a small step back, her face growing even redder, and glared at Ning Yechen, feeling both embarrassed and irritated by his teasing.

"It's really just for the kid!" she insisted.

"Okay, come back with me quickly..." Luo Ruying said, a mix of shyness and annoyance in her voice, and turned to leave.

Watching Luo Ruying's retreating form, Ning Yechen smiled. He lowered his gaze and an idea flashed through his mind. He gently twisted his right foot and said, "Madam, my foot was accidentally injured just now... I'm afraid... we can't walk back."

Luo Ruying turned around in alarm. Her face filled with panic as she hurried back to Ning Yechen and examined his right foot, which was severely injured.

"Why did you just say this now? Really! Not careful at all! What if I hadn't come to find you?" she scolded, her worry evident in her eyes.

"I'm really sorry for making you worry," Ning Yechen said, his smile persistent despite her concern.

Luo Ruying, though still worried, had no choice but to bandage his foot and then squat down with her back to him. "Come up, I'll carry you back."

Ning Yechen grinned, clearly pleased with his plan's success. He lay on Luo Ruying's back without ceremony and wrapped his arms around her neck. Her back was warm, and the faint scent of her was comforting.

Luo Ruying's face flushed with embarrassment, but she focused on the task at hand, knowing that Ning Yechen's injury needed immediate attention. She jumped up and swiftly carried him through the woods in the direction of the wooden house.

In just a few breaths, Luo Ruying had returned to the wooden house and helped Ning Yechen onto the bed.

"Daddy!" Luo Hongye exclaimed, rushing into her father's arms and rubbing her cheek against him. "I worry about you!"

Luo Ruying observed this scene with a smile, feeling reassured. She instructed Ning Yechen to stay put and not wander around, then turned to leave the wooden house.

She was headed to the fairy medicine garden to gather herbs for a healing ointment for Ning Yechen. Additionally, she needed to check for nearby monsters and set up a barrier to protect the wooden house. It had no security measures in place, and she was determined to protect her family.

In the fairy medicine garden, Luo Ruying quickly gathered all the necessary herbs. She then patrolled around the wooden house, ensuring there were no monsters within a fifty-mile radius.

Strangely, there were no signs of any monsters, and she couldn't even sense their presence. This was unusual, as there had been many when she first arrived. The absence of monsters and the lack of any signs from the black-scaled giant dragon only added to the mystery.

Despite the oddity, Luo Ruying took advantage of the situation to bury spirit stones and form a protective barrier around the wooden house. The barrier was nearly invisible but would effectively block beings below the deity realm.

Feeling satisfied with her work, Luo Ruying headed back to the wooden house as night fell. Ning Yechen and Luo Hongye were still playing, their spirits high.

Seeing her return, both greeted her in unison, "The lady is back~" and "Mother~"

Luo Ruying smiled and, noticing the lack of a bathing setup in the house, hesitated before asking with a blush, "How do you bathe here? I haven't had a bath in days..."

Back in the fairy world, bathing was a daily ritual for her, and the absence of a proper bathing arrangement here had become a concern.

Ning Yechen's eyes brightened. "Madam, you want to bathe?! I know a great place for that!"
