Chapter 17 - An old friend

Sophia took a seat and greeted everyone while thinking about the face that came before her after years. Kristy Howden was her class fellow and her desk mate. They weren't best friends but still being desk mates for over four years during junior school, so they could be considered as friends. It was just Kristy wasn't much of a talker even when Sophia tried to talk to her but she used to give precise replies without much interest to talk. Then one day Kristy just left the school as the teacher said she transferred schools. Sophia wanted to contact her but she didn't have any contact number or address so she has to leave it at that.

"Hello, ladies and gentlemen. You can start the presentation and let us know what your requirements and future prospects are.", Sophia spoke while suppressing her curiosity about the girl who disappeared years ago but was not standing in front of her as a grown woman.

"We would like to work with your IT firm for the Asian and European branch expansions for now as we have planned to set our branches there first. This is our plan....", the presentation started and went on with a few questions and add-ons by the two parties.

"I like your concept and there is no doubt about the authenticity of your Flora Ltd. Products. I believe this is going to be a success and we are happy to provide the needed technical assistance.", Sophia said as she really wanted to work with their company as she believed in the Walkers who have been respected families of the society known for their hard work and honesty.

"We will proceed with the agreement drafting process then. It's a pleasure working with you.", Kristy said and extended her hand to Sophia for a handshake. Sophia shook hands with her and said, "Happy collaboration."

Kristy and her team wrapped up their stuff and were ready to leave when Sophia's words paused their actions and Kristy sighed.

"You won't even recognize me now?", Sophia said and Kristy sighed looking at the girl who tried to be her friend for long but she didn't dare make friends due to the fear of losing them soon. Kristy has relocated many places in her life so far. She was scared of attachments as she knew she would leave soon for some new place and thus she never made friends.

Sophia was one stubborn one who tried hard to make her sway but she still maintained her indifference attitude with her. She really liked Sophia but it's just things happen and you can't always control them.

"You guys can leave first. I will return by myself.", Kristy said to the other team members who nodded their heads, though feeling confused about the situation but still left silently.

"I can't run away anymore. Can I?", Kristy said and Sophia just looked at her without any expressions.

"Get us two coffees in my office, Anna.", Sophia said and stood up and walked out.

Kristy followed her and Anna went to complete her task. Sophia and Kristy both reached Sophia's office without any talk as both were busy in their own thoughts.

"Take a seat.", Sophia said and Kristy walked towards the sofa and settled there.

Sophia sat on the sofa opposite of her. Anna soon entered and put two coffees in front of them and left, giving them privacy.

"How have you been Sophia?", Kristy asked with a gentle smile on her face.

"Pretty good actually. What about you? Why did you vanish without a word?", Sophia said with inquiring look as she really didn't understand why Kristy never informed anyone that she will be transferring schools.

"If I say that even I didn't know about it, would you believe me?", Kristy said and Sophia gave her a 'What do you think?' look.

"I was also surprised when my father said he applied for the transfer of schools and we were leaving for country B immediately. I didn't get a chance to inform anyone. I really wanted to come and meet you but I didn't get the chance.", Kristy said and Sophia sighed feeling how frustrating it would have been.

"I understand. Let's not talk about it anymore. How have you been all these years? Will you be working in City A from now on?", Sophia asked feeling it wasn't any use to discuss the past now since even she herself was helpless in the situation.

"For the time being, yes. Let's see later how it goes.", Kristy replied and Sophia just nodded her head.

They chatted for a while and then Kristy left promising her to catch up some other day soon. Sophia went on with her work and soon it was evening.

Sophia wrapped up the work and departed for home. She drove out of her office and soon reached The Rodriguez Mansion.

Sophia parked the car and went inside. Aunt Marry was instructing the workers in the garden.

Sophia walked and they greeted her to which Sophia nodded her head. She went towards their bedroom and took a quick shower before slipping into a silky night suit. It was red coloured night suit with a buttoned shirt and shorts. Sophia walked into the bedroom and sat on the bed holding her phone and gave Daniel a call.

"Hey. What's up?", Daniel asked picking it up on the second ring.

"Are you going to be late?", Sophia asked him as she was used of his presence these days and now when he wasn't around, she felt as if the room was too cold being all alone here.

"Missing me?", Daniel asked teasingly. He was expecting a scoff or reprimand from her but Sophia surprised him by saying yes.

"Yes, I am missing you.", Sophia spoke in a coquettish voice and even she didn't realise that she was being coquettish with him.

Daniel felt his heart beats increasing rapidly and his breathing became a little irregular hearing her coquettish voice. He started imagining how she would sound like moaning his name and he felt hot at the thought.

"I will be there soon.", Daniel said and ended the meeting he was having with the senior associates online.

Everyone was left sceptical thinking what made Daniel end the meeting so rapidly. They were even surprised when his phone rang and he picked it up, stopping them from speaking. They thought, 'Who could it be on the call that he muted the meeting?'. And now he even ended it in between and left offline just like that.

The person they were thinking about didn't even care what they thought. All Daniel could think now was that his wife was missing him and he has to be there with her. Daniel walked out of the office and Joe looked at his fleeting back knowingly and smiled.

Daniel drove home and reached soon.
