Chapter 6 - getting used to it

Josephine's days were filled with magic and discovery. She learned new spells, practiced potions, and explored ancient arts with Emily, Risa, and Cleopatra.

They taught her to harness her powers, control emotions, and tap into the universe's secrets.

In Emily's attic, surrounded by dusty tomes and candles, they uncovered spells in ancient texts. Risa's garden became a laboratory for potions and elixirs, while Cleopatra's artifacts revealed hidden truths.

Josephine's mind expanded as she absorbed wisdom. She discovered her affinity for elemental magic, summoning winds and conjuring fire. Her senses grew sharper, attuned to nature's rhythms and the unknown's whispers. As she grew in power, Josephine realized her new reality came with wonder and danger.

"Do you guys like…have a coven?" she asked excitedly, curious about a group of witches working together.

"We have a coven," Emily said with a sly smile, "but we're not your average witches. We're outcasts who formed our own family." Cleopatra added, "We're a mismatched family, but we make it work."

Risa's eyes sparkled with enthusiasm. "Want to meet our members? There's Marcus, our tech-savvy warlock; Lila, our gentle healer and diviner; Axel, our brooding pyromancer; and Ariana, our fearless leader."

Josephine's curiosity was piqued. "What makes you outcasts?"

Emily leaned in, her voice mischievous. "We're unconventional, rebellious. But we found belonging and purpose in our coven."

Risa nodded. "We may not have traditional training or bloodlines, but we have heart and determination. And we welcome misfits ."

"That sounds amazing," Josephine said, her eyes wide with excitement. "I'd love to meet them."

Cleopatra grinned. "Great! We'll introduce you at our next gathering. But be warned, it won't be your average witch gathering."

Emily chuckled. "We like to do things a

bit ...unconventionally."

Emily led Josephine to a secluded clearing, the moon casting a silver glow. "Today, we're learning a cloaking spell," Emily said, her eyes sparkling.

Josephine's eyes widened. "That sounds amazing!"

Emily nodded. "It's useful for keeping a low profile. Pay attention, this spell requires focus and control." Emily chanted, her hands weaving patterns in the air.

Josephine watched, mesmerized, as Emily's body shimmered and faded.

"Now it's your turn," Emily whispered. "Focus your energy, feel the magic. Imagine blending into the shadows."

Josephine closed her eyes, chanted, and felt the magic building. As she opened her eyes, she saw her body begin to fade. "Whoa, I'm doing it!" Josephine exclaimed.

Emily grinned. "You're a natural! Just control your energy, and you'll be a pro."

Cleopatra and Risa clapped. "Great job, Josephine!" Cleopatra said. "You're a quick learner." Risa added. "Yeah, you're picking up magic fast."

Emily smiled. "Okay, that's enough for today. Let's get some rest, we have class tomorrow."

Josephine left Emily's and headed home, lost in thought. As she approached her front door, she saw Jaden standing there, his hand raised to knock. "Hey, I was starting to think you were avoiding me," he said with a smile.

Josephine returned the smile, feeling a mix of emotions. "Hey, Jaden. I wasn't avoiding you, I just had a lot on my mind." She opened the door wider, and Jaden stepped inside.

Jaden asked, "What's going on? You've been distant, and I've barely seen you."

Josephine sighed, her emotions swirling. "It's just...complicated."

Jaden's gaze intensified. "Jo, what's bothering you? You can tell me."

Josephine's heart raced as she debated revealing her secrets. But as she looked into his eyes, she saw only love and concern. She leaned in to kiss him, and as they embraced, her worries temporarily faded. Their silent lovemaking was a synchronized dance, their bodies speaking a language that didn't need words. As they lay together afterwards, Josephine felt a sense of security and love. But her secrets came flooding back, and she hesitated to reveal them.

"Jaden, I..." she started, but trailed off, unsure of how to continue.

Jaden looked at her with loving eyes. "Whatever it is, Jo, I'm here for you."

Josephine smiled, feeling grateful for his support. "I know, Jaden. I just need time."

Jaden nodded, and they drifted off to sleep, wrapped in each other's arms.

Josephine woke up but this time not to her alarm, she woke up to the footsteps of her dad approaching her room door, she immediately woke Jaden up, gave him his clothes and hid him in her bathroom

"Jo! Are you in there? Are you okay mi amor" her father asked

"Y-yes, Dad, I'm fine," Josephine stuttered, trying to sound calm and composed. She held her breath, hoping that Jaden was fully hidden in the bathroom and that her dad wouldn't suspect anything.

"Can I come in, mija?" her dad asked, his voice soft and concerned.

Josephine hesitated for a moment, her heart racing. "Uh, yeah, sure, Dad. Just...just give me a minute, okay?"

she quickly gestured to Jaden to stay hidden. She took a deep breath and opened the door, trying to act normal.

"Hey, Dad. What's up?" she asked, trying to sound casual.

Her dad looked at her with a hint of suspicion, but then his expression softened. "I just wanted to check on you, mi amor. You've been acting strange lately, and I worry about you."

Josephine forced a smile, feeling a pang of guilt. "I'm fine, Dad. Just...just dealing with some stuff, that's all."

Her dad nodded, seeming to accept her explanation. "Okay, mija. Well, if you need anything, you know I'm here for you, right?"

Josephine nodded, feeling a wave of relief wash over her. "Yeah, Dad. I know. Thanks."

Josephine needed to cause a distraction for her dad so that Jaden could sneakily go.

"Hey, Dad, what's up? Want to watch a movie together?" She asked, trying to distract him.

"Sure, mija. What movie did you have in mind?"

Josephine walked into the living room with her dad, trying to act nonchalant. Jaden followed behind discreetly and hid by a staircase

As they chatted about movies, Josephine discreetly gestured to Jaden, to make a quick exit. She nodded subtly towards the front door, hoping her dad wouldn't notice.

Jaden understood the signal and quietly made his way out of the staircase , his eyes locked on Josephine's. He mouthed a silent "thank you" and quickly headed for the front door.

Josephine kept her dad engaged in conversation, trying to keep his attention away from the door. She laughed and joked, pretending everything was normal, all the while her heart racing with excitement and nervousness.

As soon as Jaden slipped out the door, Josephine breathed a sigh of relief. She had managed to sneak him out without her dad noticing.

Josephine headed to school, feeling relieved to have dodged a bullet with her dad, but knowing she couldn't avoid the witch discussion forever. As she walked, she thought about Jaden and their stolen moments together, feeling a flutter in her chest. She pushed aside worries and focused on the day ahead - a math test, history project, and witch meeting.

At the school locker area, Emily and Risa waited for her. "Hey, girl! How's it going?" Emily asked, eyeing her curiously.

Josephine smiled, trying to appear nonchalant. "Hey, guys. Just another day."

Risa raised an eyebrow. "Yeah, right. That's why you're blushing?"

Josephine laughed, rolling her eyes. "Shut up, Risa. Let's get to class!"

In class, she sat beside Allison, who avoided eye contact. "Hey, Ally," Josephine said, feeling guilty.

"Hey," Allison replied curtly. Josephine tried to apologize, but Allison cut her off. "I'm not interested, Josephine. You had your chance to explain, to be honest with me. But you chose to lie and hang out with our enemies. I can't just forget that."

Josephine's heart sank, knowing she had hurt her friend deeply. "I understand," she said softly. "I'll give you space, Ally. But know that I'm here for you, when you're ready to talk." Allison nodded curtly, still avoiding eye contact.

In class, Josephine's heart skipped a beat as she met the janitor's intense gaze through the window. She felt a shiver run down her spine, remembering the unsettling encounter in the bathroom and the cryptic message: "CURSED BE EVERY WITCH".

The janitor's gaze seemed sinister, and she wondered what he wanted from her. She tried to focus on the lesson, but her eyes kept drifting back to the window.

She decided to follow him,she excused the class, and tailed behind him, cloaking herself as she was taught.

Josephine's eyes widened as she watched from a distance. The janitor summoned a towering, inhuman creature with glowing eyes and dark marble skin. They conversed in an ancient language, their tone reverent and commanding. Josephine's heart raced as she realized she was witnessing something sinister.

The creature's gaze swept over her, despite her cloaking spell. She moved closer, magically interpreting their conversation.

"The witch has discovered her true identity," the janitor said urgently. "We have to act fast. She must be silenced before her powers grow stronger."

Josephine's heart raced as she realized she was in grave danger. She tried to escape, but her legs felt like lead.

The janitor's eyes locked onto hers, and he smiled unsettlingly. "We know you're there, Josephine. You can't hide from us forever."

Josephine ran, her heart racing, her cloaking ability malfunctioning. She stumbled, desperate to escape the janitor and the creature.

The witches in the classroom - Emily, Risa, and Cleopatra - saw Josephine running and sensed her distress. They swiftly left the class and followed her, their powers at the ready.

"Josephine, wait!" Emily called out, her voice concerned. "We've got your back!" Risa added, her eyes determined.

Together, they raced through the school, beautifully displaying their unity. They stopped at the basketball court, where Josephine explained her encounter with the janitor.

The three witches listened intently, their faces set with determination and concern. When she finished, they exchanged a knowing glance.

Emily spoke up, "Josephine, you're safe now. We won't let anything happen to you."

Risa nodded, "You showed incredible bravery and resourcefulness. We're proud of you!"

Cleopatra added, "Your ability to interpret the ancient language is a remarkable gift. We'll help you develop your powers, so you can protect yourself and others."

They shared a moment of solidarity, their bond growing stronger. Josephine felt grateful and belonged, knowing she had found true friends and allies. With newfound determination, Josephine nodded, ready to master her powers and uncover her destiny.

The bell rang, signaling the end of class, Tyler approached Allison. "Yo, Ally, what's up with Josephine?" he asked, concern etched on his face.

Allison glanced at the trio's empty seats. "I don't know, but those three are definitely involved."

Tyler's eyes narrowed. "Make sure Jo's okay, alright? Something's off."

Allison nodded. "I'll try my best."

Tyler pressed on. "And what's with those three? They're always whispering and sneaking around."

Allison shrugged. "No idea, but I don't trust them."

Tyler's expression turned determined. "I'll keep an eye on Jo. You dig up some dirt on those three." Allison nodded, and they parted ways, both determined to uncover the truth.

In the grand palace, Sabine recounted her encounter with the witches to Lukas. His expression turned grave, and he paced, his mind racing.

"Josephine, the powerful witch, is with them?" he asked, concern etched on his face.

Sabine nodded. "Yes, and with her abilities, they have an advantage. We must act swiftly."

Lukas stopped pacing and turned to Sabine. "We'll devise a strategy to counter them. We can't let them gain the upper hand."

Sabine's voice trembled. "I just want to protect my people."

Lukas approached her, holding her close. "Calm down, Sabine. We'll protect the clan at all costs."

He whispered reassurances in her ear, his warm breath calming her nerves. As he held her, Sabine realized her feelings for Lukas went beyond gratitude. Their lips met in a soft kiss, the world fading away. Lukas's love was a sanctuary, a place where Sabine could escape reality. In this warm moment, they found solace in each other's arms, their love a powerful antidote to the turmoil surrounding them.
