Chereads / Deepwoken: Vow Of Vengeance / Chapter 21 - Mercy

Chapter 21 - Mercy

The students who saw Argus's face understood that their end was close. One of the students tried to save his brother before Argus attacked them.

-RUN, SAVE YOURSELF, MALI! I WILL KEEP HIM BUSY!

-BUT SISTER! WHAT ABOUT YOU?

-WE DON'T HAVE TIME! RUN AND CALL THE TEMPLE GUARDS!

The girl's younger brother, with tears in his eyes, began to run towards the Etrean Temple.

Witnessing all of this reminded Argus of himself and his brother. How his brother had sacrificed himself for him... This was enough to calm him down.

He didn't touch the girl and left Isle of Vigils before the temple guards arrived. Everywhere he went, he left a trail of blood and continued to traumatize those around him.

 Dreadstar's voice rose again.

-Well done, hateful one. The next ones won't be as challenging.

Argus's next goal was to travel to the Eastern Luminant, where the remaining attunement masters were located. The map he had only showed the locations in Etrean Luminant, but it indicated the location of the great gate he needed to take to Eastern Luminant.

Fortunately, this gate wasn't too far from the Isle of Vigils. He turned his ship in the direction of the gate and began to sail forward. When he passed through the gate, the first place he encountered was the Songseeker Wilds.

He knew there was a master here, but he didn't know exactly where. So, he started wandering around the Songseeker Wilds. As he roamed, he saw some people wearing a mask, similar to the masked person who attacked him back in Minityrsa.

This time, he took the initiative and attacked them before they could strike. He brought all three of them down with separate strikes. However, instead of killing the last one, he asked them where the master was.

-If you tell me where the master is, I'll spare your life.

-A-Are you asking Amashi? H-He's staying in the house right at the top of the valley.

The voice, tinged with hidden anxiety behind the mask, exposed the person's unease. After Argus got the information he wanted, he mercilessly killed the last masked individual and set out on his way. Despite the steepness of the valley, Argus was as agile as ever. The power given to him by the masters he had killed was easily noticeable. With a single leap, he ascended the towering valley and reached the house where Amashi, the Flamecharm Master, resided.

This time, there was no need for him to hide as before. He was confident in his strength. With calm and deliberate steps, he approached the door and knocked.

-You may enter.

-...

-WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS DISGUSTING AURA? WHO THE HELL ARE YOU?

Amashi's attitude infuriated Argus. Although he had planned to kill him without causing any pain, Amashi's demeanor drove Argus into a frenzy. With Skullpiercer, he pierced through Amashi's body multiple times in a matter of seconds, tearing him apart. With his dying breath, Amashi uttered:

-Who... are you?

-Argus.

After killing Amashi, he heard Dreadstar's voice again.

-You did well... To fully reach your power, you must kill more. Continue to take our revenge.

There was only one place left for Argus to go: the island of the Summer Company. The only information he had about its location was that it was close to Fort Merit. Fort Merit, meant the Authority.
