Chereads / Deepwoken: Vow Of Vengeance / Chapter 2 - Great Loss

Chapter 2 - Great Loss

-Unlike my brother Blake, this is my first journey by ship. I'm excited and a bit anxious. I look forward to meeting the other crew members and learning about life on board. Blake knows the ropes of ship life and is guiding me through it. This journey is not just a business trip for us, but also an adventure and a learning experience. Our task is to trans-

port various goods from Isle of Vigils to Etris. Loading the goods onto the ship was exhausting, but it was definitely worth it. Witnessing the magnificent sights of Etrean Luminant is an unforgettable experience for me.

Captain:

-Argus! I told you to sweep the ship. Yet here you are, idling. Get to work!

-I-I'm sorry, Captain. I'll do it right away!

"They always assign me the task of cleaning the ship. Oh well… There's nothing to be done about it." Argus said, taking up his duties. Indeed, cleaning the ship was one of the most boring tasks on board. After he finished cleaning, Argus began to watch the surroundings again.

However, this time, something other than the scenery caught his attention. There was a huge Central Authority Warship nearby. He immediately informed the captain and the other people on board.

-Captain! There's a massive Authority ship nearby. I don't think we are safe.

-Damn it! The Authority is still on our tail. After coming this close to our ship, not noticing them could be our end

-BLAKE, CHANGE THE ROUTE IMMEDIATELY OR THERE WILL NOTHING BE LEFT FROM US BUT DUST AND BLOOD!

-UNDERSTOOD, CAPTAIN!

After this point, changing their direction wouldn't change anything. The ship ahead of them belonged to one of the most powerful commanders of the Central Authority's ruler, Drallis Ehr.

Their orders were clear: Sabotaging the Etrean Kingdom by blowing up all the Merchant Ships they saw around them.

It didn't take long for the bombs to explode. After the explosions, those inside the ship began to struggle with death. Everyone was desperate to save themselves.

Captain:

-BLAKE, DROP THE STEER AND GET YOUR BROTHER! IT'S TOO LATE FOR US TO CHANGE THE ROUTE.

Blake, with tears of rage and grief:

-UNDERSTOOD CAPTAIN!

Blake then tried searching for his brother in the burning ship.

-ARGUUUUUUUUS!

-I AM HERE BROTHER!

Blake rushed through Argus, taking him with himself and getting through the only spare boat.

After putting his brother inside the boat, he left back to get Captain Orlandeu.

-Argus, stay here. I will come back with Captain.

-...

The chaotic atmosphere on the ship led everyone to ignore each other. It led them to not realize how close the great warship was. As soon as the warship came in contact with the burning ship, an army of authority soldiers and lieutenants jumped into the ship in the blink of an eye.

Right after Blake told his brother to stay, the ship rumbled with the sounds of footsteps. The footsteps of the Authority's great army. It was at this moment, Blake realized that not everyone would leave this place alive. He kicked his brother's boat with tears in his eyes. Shouting to him:

-ARGUS, YOU KNOW EVERYTHING I TAUGHT YOU RIGHT? NOW USE THEM TO SURVIVE! GO BACK TO ETRIS!

-BUT, WHAT ABOUT YOU AND CAPTAIN?

-WE WILL FIND A WAY! JUST DO WHAT I TOLD YOU!

The authority soldiers' goal was to make sure nobody was left alive. They started attacking anyone they saw on the ship. Each crew member getting slayed one by one by the cruelty of the Authority.

Argus had survived, but the same could not be said for the other people on the ship. The people remaining on the ship sank with the ship, just like the Lost Celtor.

Argus, the only person to survive the ship, set off for Etris as his brother said, with tears in his eyes and an unquenchable anger in his heart.

Argus's journey back to Etris was fraught with emotion. After the devastating loss of his captain Orlandeu and his brother Blake, every wave that crashed against his small boat felt like a cruel reminder of his grief.

The sea stretched out endlessly before him, its vast expanse mirroring the emptiness in his heart. With each passing mile, memories of happier times with his crew flooded his mind, only to be replaced by the haunting image of the ship engulfed in flames.

As he approached Etris, the city's skyline loomed in the distance like a silent sentinel. But what was once a bustling metropolis now seemed eerily quiet, its streets devoid of life. The absence of familiar faces only served to deepen Argus's sense of loneliness.

Docking his boat at the familiar harbor, Argus stepped onto solid ground with a heavy heart. The salty air filled his lungs, mingling with the weight of his sorrow. He made his way through the deserted streets, his footsteps echoing in the silence.

There was no one he could ask for help. Now, in this ruthless world, he was all alone at a young age. The only thing he had left was his unending anger and sorrow.

He then decided to go and tell Lady Ariel, Captain's wife about the incident.

As Argus stood before the door of his captain's family home, he hesitated for a moment, steeling himself for the inevitable questions and condolences that would follow. With a heavy heart, he raised his hand and knocked, the sound echoing through the empty streets of Etris.
