Chapter 23 - Protecting the village (2).

Kaylessa was hurled through the air and hit the ground hard, rolling several times before coming to a halt [ET:436/810]. Without wasting any time, the troll charged towards her, preparing to crush her head underfoot. Fortunately, Kaylessa reacted quickly, dodging to the side and springing back onto her feet.

The enormous troll once again wielded the large club towards Kaylessa, who remained in a dazed state with blurred vision. She attempted to block the blow with her spear, absorbing the brunt of the troll's power, which ultimately knocked her to the ground [Hp:670/790] [ET:0/810].

Ayaka observed the scene unfold from the wall and was filled with shock at the events taking place. Without hesitation, she leapt off the wall and rushed towards Kay, who had been thrown to the ground by the troll. Paying no heed to the surrounding enemies, she continued to sprint forward, shooting arrows at those blocking her path in order to clear a way to reach Kay.

Laurelena, stationed on the wall, felt uncertain about the course of action. The person in charge of providing cover fire leapt down, while the captain was under attack by the troll.

As she was in a state of panic, the elderly turtle used all its weight to strike her head.

"Why are you so worried? Damn, Brat, be the one in charge, and make sure the enemy doesn't break through the front line. Remember, you come from a line of respected village leaders, so the villagers will have faith in you and listen to your orders."

Kaylessa was facing the brunt of the troll assaults on the battlefield, trying her best to avoid them. However, she was already severely hurt, and her health was rapidly declining [Hp:234/790]. At that moment, she made the choice to utilize all her abilities in one final attempt to harm the troll before meeting her demise.

Instantly, the troll was bombarded with a barrage of lightning strikes, unleashing a deafening noise that incapacitated the monsters in close proximity. The powerful shockwave propelled Kaylessa [Hp:34/790] and the troll [ET:3,884,/10,000] through the air, causing Ayaka to leap into action and shield Kaylessa mid-flight, ultimately crashing onto the ground to shield her with her own body.

The troll fell on his back with a loud thud, and as he attempted to get back up, he was struck by an earth spike, although it didn't do much damage. Suddenly, various bright objects were soaring towards him, relentlessly hitting him [ET: 3,145/10,000].

The mages squads, along with Laurelena and some town guards, were the ones engaging the troll. As the mages bombarded the troll, they moved away from the shield wall to position the troll within range of the spells assisting Kaylessa and Ayaka. The right flank and the thunder militia also joined forces to provide support.

Ayaka stood up, holding Kaylessa in her arms, feeling the urge to cry at the sight of her friend covered in bruises and blood with her armor in tatters, amazed that she was still breathing. Ayaka wrapped her two tails around Kaylessa as she hurried towards the shield wall.

The troll was finding it increasingly difficult to get back on its feet, overwhelmed by the continuous onslaught of abilities [ET: 2,845/10,000]. As it struggled to stand, it was confronted by a lightning-clad warrior in blue. Attempting to strike the warrior with its club, the troll was surprised to find its attack blocked, and it was hit with another radiant light similar to the one that had thwarted its previous target [ET: 2,887/10,000].

The troll was effortlessly overlwelmed by the combined forces of mages, warriors, and thunder militia, leaving it vulnerable and awaiting its demise. At the same time, Ayaka had already arrived in town with the medical team to assist Kaylessa.

"Ay, I'll be okay now. Please go assist the soldiers in defeating the troll; once it's gone, the other creatures won't be a problem anymore."

When Kaylessa woke up, she spoke those words to Ayaka with a kind smile before shutting her eyes once more.

Ayaka initially hesitated to leave Kaylessa alone, but eventually decided to return to the battlefield in order to confront the one responsible for hurting her loved one.

The barrier around the troll was eventually shattered [ET: 0/10,000], exposing its body to potential attacks. As Laurelena repeatedly struck the creature with her skills, such as the earth spike, she felt an overwhelming sense of joy and satisfaction. She gleefully inflicted pain on the troll while wearing a warm and alluring smile on her face.

Upon Ayaka's arrival in the vicinity of the team engaged in battle with the troll, she observed the creature continuing to launch aggressive attacks despite its significant injuries. Simultaneously, the thunder militia bravely endured the creature's onslaught and responded by striking back with bursts of lightning [Hp:3,453/5,000].

Recalling the harm this creature caused to her loved one, Ayaka used her advanced abilities as a fox spirit to attack the troll, causing it to quickly burn and suffer a rapid decline in health [Hp:0/5,000].

After realizing the troll had been defeated, Laurelena experienced a mix of sadness and frustration, as though her prized possession had been taken away. Little did she know, this emotional reaction would lead her on an unexpected path that no one would have anticipated from a timid girl like her.

After the troll was defeated, the team in charge of subduing it began heading back towards the shield barrier to take a break. Meanwhile, the archers were tasked with dealing with any remaining monsters as they moved away. Laurelena, Ayaka, and the group of mages continued to fire at the enemies in order to ensure a secure withdrawal.

In a different realm, a large and lovely woman paced back and forth, fidgeting with her fingers in a state of unease regarding a certain matter or individual. Every now and then, she seemed to have reached a conclusion, only to second-guess herself moments later and resume her pacing.
