Kaylessa was already exhausted—not just tired, but nearly on the brink of death. This was the first time she had fought for so long in her new body. Previously, she was accustomed to simply floating in her egg form, where there was no need for sleep or food, and therefore she never experienced fatigue.
Ayaka's state was worsening as her fingers were covered in blood from shooting numerous arrows. Despite the excruciating pain, she persisted in her actions to avoid being a liability to Kaylessa.
The troops on the eastern side were making every effort to maintain their position. Despite their strength, the orcs found it difficult to navigate the narrow pathways. Their large stature worked against them, limiting them to only four fighters at a time against the defensive line. In contrast, the coalition forces were able to send more soldiers and receive support from the archers.
The defensive line was holding their ground against the orcs until a huge troll suddenly emerged, charging towards them. Fear gripped some of the warriors as they feared the collapse of their defensive line. However, their anxiety was soon alleviated when four bright beams of |Thunderbolt 3/10| struck the troll, slowing it down |ET:8,500/10,000|. The creature was then bombarded with arrows, each impact producing a loud thud |ET:7,900/10,000|.
Ayaka continued to fire four arrows at the troll as he approached the defensive line |ET:6900/10,00|. Following this, Kaylessa commanded the soldiers to retreat to the shield wall in order to avoid unnecessary casualties.
The troll approached the shield wall and began striking it with his large, dark hands, resembling a spiked ball. Each blow from the troll caused the shield warriors to be pushed backwards.
"Mages, pay no attention to the orcs and attack the troll!"
Kayelssa commanded the mages in the eastern group. Despite being hesitant to follow the orders of a young girl, they were eventually compelled to comply when a warrior from the frontline punched one of them forcefully. With weapons pointed at them by the other warriors, the mages finally obeyed and began targeting the troll with their spells.
As the mages continued to attack the troll relentlessly, the orcs found themselves unable to advance due to the troll's size and narrow path. They were easy targets for the archers positioned on the rooftops, who inflicted significant damage and casualties upon them.
After some time passed, the troll depleted all its Ether reserves and began to scream as various debuffs and injuries manifested on its body. It didn't take much longer before it met its demise from the barrage of attacks. As the troll fell, the warriors celebrated their triumph with a cheer, although their jubilation was short-lived as the orcs were already regrouping for another assault.
The soldiers on the eastern side were feeling weary, but their morale remained strong. Kaylessa, too, was exhausted, yet the battle seemed to never end. These nightmarish beings showed no signs of fatigue, continuing to fight on despite taking losses; they were an unstoppable force. Kaylessa motioned for her squad of seven men to attack once more, and the eastern fighters, inspired by Valkiria's leadership, quickly followed suit without any hesitation.
Kaylessa was unaware of the duration of the battle, but she was certain it had begun early in the day and was now approaching dusk. Her energy levels were drained, her health points were only at half capacity, the soldiers from the east who fought alongside her were badly wounded, and some had already perished. Recently, they had run out of arrows, the spellcasters were fatigued, and they were unable to provide additional help to the soldiers on the front lines.
At that instant, a group of cavalry led by General Benedict suddenly attacked the Orcs from behind, causing them to scatter effortlessly. These soldiers rode on unusual creatures like lions and land dragons, making them a formidable and unexpected force on the battlefield.
The air force led by Benedict Command descended from above and began targeting orcs, either dropping them from great heights or using fire and poison to eliminate them. Since they supported the infantry, their assistance signaled that the battle was nearing its conclusion.
Despite the additional reinforcements, the orcs were not easily defeated, prompting Ayaka to use her last bit of ether to cast a protective barrier around Kaylessa. As night fell and the battle came to an end, Kaylessa collapsed in exhaustion at the sight of the defeated orcs and the triumphant cheers of her companions.
Upon noticing the situation, Ayaka promptly descended from the rooftop and rushed to embrace her. Upon realizing that Kaylessa was merely resting, Ayaka let out a sigh of relief. She then moved Kaylessa to a nearby wall, positioning herself with her legs wide open and placing Kaylessa in the center, cradling Kaylessa's head against her chest while gently patting her head.
When they spotted the adorable girls taking a break in the middle of the road, they made a circle around them to ensure their safety and allow them to relax. The rest of the soldiers followed suit and laid down to take a break while anticipating further orders.
Dareldrin was the first to reach the scene, but he was intercepted by the eastern warriors before he could approach the girls. General Benedict then appeared, getting off his horse and making his way towards Kaylessa and Ayaka.
Ayaka became aware of someone approaching and gazed at Benedict with her vibrant red eyes.
Benedict came to a halt and observed the warriors from the east. He estimated that there were around 80 warriors remaining, but considering the number of corpses, they likely started off as a 100-member troop. It was truly a miraculous feat for so many of them to have survived.
"Ladies and gentlemen, the conflict has ended. Once more, we successfully repelled the enemy's assault. Tonight is our time to rest and recover from the victory. Although we have emerged triumphant, we must rise early tomorrow to resume clearing the battlefield and rebuilding the wall. Therefore, I urge you to go and get some rest now."
