Chereads / The Wizards Indignation / Chapter 48 - It's too dark

Chapter 48 - It's too dark

In a couple of hours, the trio of Teferi "Silverstone" and Keave had broken a rule. They snuck out of school.

"I can't believe the both of you wanted to keep me out of that conversation." Enoe said as they took a stroll around Darkmoon's land. "I'm highly offended."

"You can be too much to have around and you know that." Said Kiyan.

"Excuse me for being such an amazing personality." He retorted. "Anyway, what are we doing here?" He asked as they now stood at the highest point of the hill behind the academy.

They looked down at the fast moving pour of the waterfall. The chance of someone surviving a fall that close and high was slim.

"Finding out if you truly are trustworthy." Raten replied.

"What?"

From behind, Kiyan pushed Enoe but caught him before he fell off completely. He was just a release from Kiyan's hand away from falling down the waterfall into the crashing waters.

"Wh-what the heck do you think you're doing?!" Enoe shouted but remained still. He stared at the falling water and gulped. "If this is some sort of joke, you'd better stop it and pull me up now."

"Enoe Keave, what are you scheming? Why do you keep following us around? What do you want?" Kiyan asked.

"Scheming? I'm not scheming anything. I keep following you around because you're my spawns. I don't want anything!" He answered desperately.

Kiyan loosened his grip a bit and Enoe almost fell.

"AAHH! Don't do this, come on. Please, pull me up!" He practically begged. He tried to use magic but nothing was working. It was as if every bit of mana in him was either drained or locked. He had no way of saving himself and was at their mercy.

"You want me to believe that? You want nothing? We're in DarkMoon. You could tell anyone who we are and we'll be sent to The Sovereign's death sentence while you get away richer than your father even is. You could be working for the old man, who knows?"

"Anything, you can get anything and you want me to believe you want nothing? You don't even like people anyway, so stop with this spawn nonsense and tell me what you want or you're dead." Kiyan threatened rather calmly. A wrong answer and Enoe would be gone.

"It's not a lie I see everyone else a walking pile of rubbish, but definitely not both of you. You have to believe me when I say I only came here in search of you. I never thought I'd admit this but I wanted to see my only friends again!" Enoe spilled every word fast like his life depended on it, and it did.

"I really have no other intention. I just, I missed the both of you, okay? I remembered everything we used to talk about. Your open admitted love for magic and your contempt for the ruling power. Even that plan you made."

"Of course it sounded silly at that time, but some months ago I thought it over and even told some of my father's workers about it. It was actually very impressive to have come from the minds of eleven years olds."

"I meant it when I said I dug up everything about your past when you left and I decided I wanted to help. Every information you need, I can get it. There's links beyond what people see that I know of and I'm willing to dig all through that to aid you however you need."

"We made a pact remember? Okay I was the only one who was rambling on that day and the both of you kept staring at me. Anyway, we said we'd conquer the world. We did. I can't do that alone and you both aren't allowed to do that without me!"

"Kiyan, Raten, I thought of everything and even when you said you don't know what you really wanted."

Kiyan started pulling him up until he said

"Your plan is an end. You both just want to die."

Kiyan let go and he fell while screaming,

"Was it something I said?! I'm soorrryyyy!"

The both of them watched him with blank expressions. As soon as his body touched the water, he appeared back where they stood, coughing and breathing hard.

Kiyan crushed him to the ground with his right foot on his chest.

"Why did you save this fool?" Kiyan asked his brother who stood silently.

Raten bent over Enoe and looked straight into his eyes.

"Can you really give as much information as we need?" He asked.

"I've already begun getting something. It was supposed to be a surprise gift." Enoe responded in between gasps for air as Kiyan put pressure on his ribs.

"Listen, Enoe, do not ever make the mistake of repeating those words you just said." Raten pushed a strand of wet hair off Enoe's face with a finger. "We don't know what we want? The plan is an end? Are you mad? No, that's not even a question. You obviously are."

"I know exactly what I want and it's to be free. I don't want to be alive. I want to live. I haven't been doing that and it drives me damn near mad, I swear..." He brought his face closer.

"I'd kill for that freedom. I'll do anything to have that peace even if it means going against the world. Which is okay, the world is already against us. But you see death? It's not an option not until I've finally laughed heartily without a worry."

Enoe saw Raten's eyes soften. He had found out what happened to them and it would be wrong to say he pitied them. Forget empathy, he grieved for them. He cried with them, bled and starved with them.

He made the decision to find them. Why? I guess he really did care about his spawns. Whatever path they were going to take, he wanted to be there every step of the way.

Kiyan took his leg off and Raten moved back.

The three of them sat watching the sun set behind the hill.

"At least, let me die reaching for a light. It's too dark Enoe. Way too dark."
