Chapter 44 - Suspiciously wholesome

"Yes, you're right. I should get going now." I walked out of the door, but before that, I took one look at her before leaving. Her mouth was moving but no sound came out, but I could make out what she's saying.

'It's not the head.'

I didn't think much about it, but that doesn't mean I'll forget about it. I simply put that at the back of my mind.

When I was outside, I stared at the ceiling of earth for a few seconds, processing the information I collected.

The truth about Calvin, the story of the massacre, an Honor with contract binding power, Grim's Kitchen on my ass now and two new enemies.

Aside from that, there's the mastermind behind the night market incident, hiding within Synth, who will use that device for something I didn't know. When I thought of the possibility of what he might do with it, I couldn't help but get a sense of urgency to get it.

But I know I had to be calm. No need to rush. I simply have to do it one by one.

After I eased my mind a bit by taking a drag, I pondered about my next move, to meet Will or Chosen.

Chosen is out of the equation as he's currently at war with the shadows, so my go to would be Will.

The last time I heard about him is when he got into the news when he resurrected a bunch of the undead to attend a birthday party of an orphan. Perhaps I can meet Will through that orphan.

I recalled the news and tried my best to remember what kind of orphanage the kid is from, before the memory surfaced.

Having the location in mind, I created a hoverboard and flew straight to Gram, or at least that's what I'm trying to do when I feel something pressing against my back. It felt cold, hence I assume it was a gun.

At this time, I was on the hoverboard, ready to fly.

Although I was annoyed that it didn't go to my plan, I asked calmly, "What do you want?"

"If you want your dear Eve, come with me," He got closer to my ears, pressing the bullet. A loud bang echoed and the bullet went through my body, making a hole. Blood flowed down slowly. I groaned in agony and the pain almost made my mind go blank.

"What the hell… was that for?" I gritted my teeth when my words stopped midway because of the pain I failed to endure.

I find it strange how a bullet was extremely painful and agonizing when I can handle pain well.

Perhaps the person enhanced the bullet or lowered my pain resistance.

"It's my way of saying hello."

"Then…" I put my palm on his shoulder. A spike of smoke shot out from my palm and pierced his shoulders. Blood flew everywhere, including me. He yelped in pain and took a few steps back.

Covered by his warm blood, I turned around with a smirk, "...This is also my way of hello."

"Bastard…" He looked at me warily, especially with the spike that seemingly came out of the thin air.

The spike shortened its size and became a marble. From his eyes of realization, I already knew what's inside his mind.

The man is covered from top to bottom in black clothes. He had two pistol handles on his back with only one still on it.

"Who sent you?" I asked, taking a drag.

"Will. He wanted to meet you. He captured your friends so don't think anything funny, or they get it."

I fell silent, before laughing. He looked at me, dumbfounded.

"Why are you laughing! Do you think this is just a joke?!" He pointed his gun at me.

My laugh slowly settled down, "Man, that's a good laugh I have for years. What's your name?" I swipe the tears trickling down my eyes.

"Does it matter?"

"Yeah, it doesn't matter." I nodded slightly. "Do you know who you just captured?"

"Eve and a bunch of weaklings."

"I'm surprised you're still alive," I said sarcastically.

"Are you making fun of me?"

"Isn't it obvious? My, the goddess of luck truly has her favorites."

"Enough with the nonsense! Come with me or die!" He didn't even give me time to answer as he pulled the trigger.

Light flashed as the bullet flew, piercing through the air. I moved my body to the left, dodging it. My hair fluttered from the wind the bullet carried.

"You're quite unprofessional at making a deal."

"Shut it!" He pulled out the second gun and pressed the trigger. In my eyes, the bullet seemed to slow down and I moved my body slightly, dodging it by a hair's breadth.

But that wasn't the end of it. He kept pressing the trigger, shooting around sixteen bullets in quick succession. I step to the left and right, where each step makes me closer to him.

After he exhausted those bullets, he leapt back and reloaded his pistols within mere seconds.

When he reloaded his guns, I took a quick drag and summoned Puffy.

The moment he finished reloading his pistols was also the time when Puffy was completely formed. We finished our preparation simultaneously.

Puffy went forward. It flew like a translucent mist and covered our distance in an instant. It then drew its swords and raised them, wanting to slash him down.

The man realized he'd die before he could pull the trigger, so he rolled to the side. Puffy's sword clash the ground, causing smoke of dust to cover the area…

*Third POV *

A man wearing circular glasses with hair slicked back, heavily covered in pomade. He wore a pink flowery apron. On his left hand, shaking a wok of rice. On his right hand, a spatula, mixing the rice with the ingredients.

He then stops what he's doing and adds some more ingredients. The wok made a sizzling sound as a delicious aroma wafted through the air.

The man then continued to mix the rice as he also shook the wok.

After some time, he turned the stove off and carried the wok with one hand to the dining table.

Three people were waiting on the table. They looked at the food eagerly.

The man scoop a spoonful of spatula to each plate before scooping the rest to an empty plate.

The man went to the kitchen to put his utensils back before returning to the table. When he did, the wall abruptly burst open. Its debris went everywhere, except the table. A translucent barrier bounced them off.

Dust covered the entire room, before fading away, revealing a silhouette of a man carrying a man in his hand.

The dust disappeared completely, revealing the silhouette. It was Sunny carrying the ninja man in his other hand.

I looked around the house and wondered if I'm at the right place or if I just transmigrated to an alternate timeline.

Eve, Calvin and Yin Hee were sitting around a table with food before them. Not far from them stood Will. I immediately noticed that he's wearing a pink apron.

I frowned slightly, trying to understand what's going on and I averted my eyes to the food. Steam rose. They were just cooked.

"What is going on?" I asked, releasing the man from my clutch. He made a light thud as he landed.

"Sunny! We've been waiting for you!" The tips of Will's lips curves up, forming a warm smile.
