Chapter 46 - He Knows...

I sat on the dining table, staring at the food suspiciously. I glanced at Eve.

"Are you sure this is safe?" I raised one of my brows a bit.

"Yes, if not, Calvin would have died." Eve pointed at Calvin who was stuffing food as though he hadn't eaten anything for three days.

"You're right." I nodded slightly. "So, how does it come to this?"

They were in a burning house but then, in the next moment, they were eating on the same table as Will.

I shifted my eyes to Will. He was on the corner of the table, eating casually. Nothing suspicious from his demeanor, which made me more alarmed.

"He met us after we escaped from the burning house and explained that he knew something we don't know. He then offers us dinner and here we are." She scoop a spoonful of fried rice and put it into her mouth.

"You don't think that suspicious at all?" My voice flickered with puzzlement. Eve was the cautious type, so the fact she agreed to Will's offer confused me.

"What's to be cautious about? Don't you remember what my powers were?" She responded after gulping.

I fell silent for a moment and agreed internally. Her powers would dismiss any kind of danger.

"What did you discover in Igor's house? Did you know who burned it down?"

"First, we found out 'he' is an ''it." Eve pointed at Calvin. I frowned a bit and wanted to say something, but then I chose not to and let her continue.

"Second, it's him that burns the house." Eve pointed at Will.

"Him? Why?" I slowly shift my head to Will.

"Exactly the topic we're about to discuss. Well, after dinner." She continued eating.

I looked at her for a few more seconds and let out a sigh. I turned my line of sight to the plate before pushing it away.

"Are you not going to eat it, Mr. Sunny?" Yin Hee asked, eager eyes on the plate. She sat opposite me.

"You can have it." I pushed it towards her. She accepted it with bright curved lips.

I moved my head to Will and opened my mouth, "We don't have time to wait until dinner is finished, so pardon me. Why did you burn the house?"

Will act as though he didn't hear my words and continue eating. I waited for around fifteen seconds. I almost ran out of patience and was about to throw an empty plate at him.

"I didn't know it was Igor's son that was inside the house. So I burn it down to make sure anything about Igor isn't spread to the public, or land on the wrong hands." He took a sip of a glass of wine.

"What is it about him that the public doesn't want to know? He's a smart man, so knowing how risky his job is, I doubt Igor is stupid enough to put important information inside his house."

Igor has a lot of enemies and they would definitely want information about him to put him down and defeat him.

In this day and age where Honors with unpredictable powers exist, sneaking into a house and stealing crucial information is easy, especially if the target is an ordinary man.

"Would his enemies still bother him if he's dead?" Will halt eating and look at me. His gaze as though looking down on me. I didn't take his gaze to heart and thought that his words made sense.

His enemies would ignore him if he's dead, and his house would be safe to store important information. The only downside is that, once discovered, the only option is to erase everything.

What's a better way to remove all evidence but burn them to the ground.

"Would you be willing to tell us what you know?"

"I can't." Will shook his head regretfully.

"Why?" My furrows deepened a bit.

"Because it'll trouble me."

"Trouble you?" My voice filled with confusion.

"Yeah, do you know what my position is at Synth?" He asked as he ate.

"No clue." I responded without hesitation.

"Kids these days…" he paused a bit. "Synth is a rather complicated organization. It is a government, a military and also a company. As a massive organization, it needs talented and brilliant people to maintain and nurture it.

"I am one of those people, and my position at Synth cannot be risked by a bunch of curious kids."

"What do you want?"

"Her." Will pointed his finger at Eve.

Eve stopped eating and pointed to herself with her finger, surprised, "Me?"

"Yes, you are the only Honor in the city with an unranked ability. Do you know what that means?"

"I'm the chosen one?" Eve said slowly, not sure.

"You're more than that. Your power will bring humanity to greater heights!"

"What?" Eve blurted out.

"Haven't you noticed? Your power makes death cower in fear!" His voice was loud as he said in excitement.

"But that doesn't make me immortal. If I'm careless, a bullet would kill me." She waved her hands to the left and right.

Will pulled out a gun from his apron and shot Eve. It was quite fast and I didn't have enough time to react. Before I knew it, he had already pulled the trigger.

I looked at Eve. She was fine. I frowned.

"What happened?"

Eve pointed at a ball with a hole, "A ball suddenly came through the window and hit the bullet, changing its trajectory and only grazing me."

"A ball?" I shifted my eyes to the ball.

"There's an empty field near here." Will explained and put the gun on the table, continuing, "Do you see what I meant, Eve?"

"I get your point, but what do you want me to do?"

"Eve?"

"Relax, I'm not going to accept his offer. I'm curious what his purpose is." She smiled cunningly.

"Kill every last of the shadows."

"My power isn't lethal." She crossed her arms and observed Will attentively.

"Yeah, but we have a device to make it happen. With your power, we can easily wipe out the shadows." He clenched his hands in agitation.

"Let me guess, is it the Neuro something?" I blurted, not thinking much, but then.

'How did you know?' He whispered, barely audible to ordinary people, but not to us.

Eve and I stood up.
