A Neville SI: Chapter 3

But before he could react, Dumbledore stumbled back with a surprised expression on his face. "My apologies, my boy," he said with a slight frown, regaining his footing. "It seems I have lost my balance.

Neville realized that Dumbledore had been trying to delve into his mind without his consent. his mind raced "That old bugger, did he just try to use Legilimency on me? I need to be careful with this old coot. He's always manipulating everything. He was the reason why Harry was so unprepared."

Meanwhile, Dumbledore regained his composure and told Neville that he should not worry about losing his memories, Neville just nodded solemnly and averted his gaze, feigning sadness and disappointment. Inside, he made a mental note "I need to learn Occlumency. as soon as possible."

As they waited for Pomfrey and McGonagall to return, Neville wanting to keep his amnesiac act going turned to Dumbledore with a furrowed brow. "Who are you?" he asked warily.

Dumbledore replied, "I'm Dumbledore, the headmaster of Hogwarts. You're a first-year, so don't worry. The new school year is just starting, and you won't be too far behind your peers."

Neville nodded, still feeling uneasy being alone with Dumbledore.

Just then, Madam Pomfrey returned and approached Neville with a kind smile. " How are you feeling, dear? Any discomfort? Is that headache still bothering you?"

Neville shook his head, relieved that the pain had subsided. "No, ma'am."

Right then, Professor McGonagall stormed back into the hospital wing with another person in tow. She was tall, thin, and bony, sporting a hat with a stuffed vulture on it and carrying a bright red handbag.

Seeing the woman beside McGonagall, Neville thought, "That must be Neville's grandmother"

Dumbledore, noticing both McGonagall and the woman, said, "Ah, Augusta, glad you could make it."

Augusta nodded, muttering, "It's only been a week since he got to Hogwarts and already I've been summoned." She then turned to Dumbledore and said, "I came as soon as I heard my Neville was in the hospital wing."

She looked at Neville and seeing him alright she asked confused, "What's wrong with him? He looks alright to me."

McGonagall sighed and said, "Augusta, Mr. Longbottom took a tumble off his broom during this morning's flying lesson. He lost control of his broom and fell bashing his head on the ground. It seems he's lost his memory."

Hearing McGonagall explanation, Augusta's eyes widened. "What? How could this have happened?" worriedly

She moved to Neville's side and asked, "Neville, do you remember who I am?"

Neville, wanting to keep up his amnesia act, shook his head. "Who are you, ma'am?"

Augusta looked shocked. "You don't remember me, Neville? I'm your gran."

Neville, still confused, asked, "Gran?"

Augusta turned to Madam Pomfrey. "There must be a way for Neville to get his memories back."

Pomfrey shook her head. "I'm afraid there's no way to force it; that might make things worse. But there's a chance his memories could return with time."

Augusta sighed, rubbing her head. "Ah, Neville, what am I going to do with you? It's only been a week, and you've already lost all your memory. There are seven more years to go!"

Neville felt a pang of sympathy, knowing how much of a klutz he was in the books.

Dumbledore chimed in, "It's not all that bad, Augusta. While Mr. Longbottom has lost his memories, he's young and just starting out in life."

Augusta sighed again. "So, what are we going to do now?"

Dumbledore stepped in. "Well, considering it's only been two weeks since the school year started, Mr. Longbottom shouldn't have any trouble catching up with his peers."

He added, "But I think, for today, you should spend some time with Mr. Longbottom, letting him get to know you since you're his guardian." Dumbledore then took something off a small table and handed it to Augusta. "And you might want to get Mr. Longbottom a new wand. It seems his wand was broken in the fall."

Looking at the wand, Augusta almost had tears in her eyes and whispered, "Frank," referring to her son's wand. She gently took it.

Neville, seeing the broken wand, thought, "Ah, so my wand is broken. This is good. I can get a wand that suits me and won't have to be held back by an incompatible wand."

Hearing the name, Minerva connected the dots, realizing it was Frank Longbottom's wand. She looked a bit sad and said, "You should take it to Olivander's. He might be able to fix it."

Sighing, Augusta nodded, carefully placing the wand in her handbag. "If there's nothing else keeping Neville here, we'd like to depart."

Pomfrey shook her head. "No, everything else is fine with Mr. Longbottom."

McGonagall offered, "You can use the Floo in my office."

Augusta nodded and turned to Neville and said, "Come on, Neville, let's go," helping him get off the bed.

Neville got off the bed and trailed after Augusta. leaving behind the hospital, he asked, "Where are we going?"

Augusta sighed and replied, "We are heading to Diagon Alley to get you a new wand."

Neville nodded, already having figured that part out.

When they reached the office, McGonagall asked, "When can we expect Mr. Longbottom back, Augusta?"

Augusta said, "Around 8 in the evening. That should give us enough time to sort everything out."

McGonagall nodded and said, "Well, when you're done, use the main entrance. I'll let Hagrid know to expect Mr. Longbottom."

Opening the office door, McGonagall added, "Since Mr. Longbottom has forgotten everything, we should teach him how to use the Floo first."

Augusta nodded and said, "I'll go first." Turning to Neville, she explained, "Grab a handful of the powder and step into the fireplace. Throw down the powder while clearly saying the name of the place you're heading to. Make sure you say it clearly."

Seeing Neville nod at her instructions, Augusta said, "I'll go first, then you follow. Watch carefully, alright?"

Augusta proceeded as she'd instructed, tossing the powder into the fireplace and calling out, "Diagon Alley!" She was enveloped in green flames and disappeared.

McGonagall then held up the Floo powder and said to Neville, "Say the destination loudly and clearly, Mr. Longbottom. It's 'Diagon Alley.'" punctuating the name

"Damn, that looks cool! This will be my first time doing magic," Neville thought. He reached into the sack of Floo powder, stepped into the fireplace facing McGonagall, took a deep breath, and threw down the powder, calling out, "Diagon Alley!"

Green flames erupted around him and consumed him.

Neville soon found himself stumbling out of a fireplace, some soot patch covering his clothes. His grandmother caught him and said, "Easy there! The first time using the Floo can be a bit jarring." She patted the soot off his clothes.

Looking around, Neville saw himself in an alleyway lined with multiple fireplaces on both sides of the wall, with wizards appearing and disappearing through them. It reminded him of the scene at the Ministry of Magic in the fifth Harry Potter movie.
