I know," Claire said, her throat tightening. "But we don't have many options. We need to find a way to protect him—and to keep them from coming after me, too."
Jake sighed. "I'll do everything I can. I've already got a couple of contacts who might be able to help. Just… keep Anthony close tomorrow. We need him alive long enough to make this work."
Claire nodded, even though Jake couldn't see her. "I will. Thanks, Jake. I don't know what we'd do without you."
"Just be careful," Jake said before hanging up.
Claire lowered the phone from her ear, staring at the screen. The flicker of hope she had felt moments earlier was now tempered by the realization of how precarious their situation was. Even with the potential leverage Jake had uncovered, they were playing a dangerous game, and the margin for error was slim.
