"What kind of sick joke is this, Emery?!" I lunged forward but the guard stood in between us like a wall, covering her, protecting her, from me.
"Emerald" she corrected.
"Yeah, right. You're not Emery anymore. You're someone else now. I don't even recognize you anymore." Her gaze hardened even more at my words. Her eyes went as cold and emotionless as they could. The bright green eyes that once carried warmth and loads full of affection, now, were nothing but just a dull shade of green.
"Know your limits, Ren. No wait, I should just call you Rumis because you're just as foolish as you were the day I met you."
The guard let go of me and one of them nodded his head towards the chair. I sat down obediently, as if I had any other choice.
"Richard isn't so foolish to just let me go away with a single spy." She stepped closer. "Tell me, Ren, what is he planning to do this time?"
"This is not a joke, Emery, you need to think before you act. Richard is planning a big game. He's coming for you. He'll use your weakness against you without any mercy. You should just surrender." A nerve twitched in her jaw. The guard standing beside her quickly pinned my arms behind my back.
"Surrender..." She repeated. "No, I can't find the word in my vocabulary." She was acting non-chalantly, not taking it into consideration. She turned around to leave. Her steps, calm, measured, perfect, like this wasn't something to be afraid of.
"Emery! Richard is going to attack Port Maria. He's prepared a large army, you won't be able to win against him!" Her lips twitched upwards at my words.
Dang it! I spat out what I wasn't supposed to tell her.
She stopped right outside the room, whispered something to her assistant and left.
She wasn't taking this seriously. She needed to. Millions of lives were at stake and the worst part was, I couldn't do anything – useless – like always.

She smiles at me, but it doesn't quite reach her eyes. She's become like this after Nazira died. She was important to her. I can tell she cried that night by the swelling she had on her face the next day.
I raise my hand to the side of her face. "We'll do this, together. We're in this together, remember?" I remind her as I caress her cheekbone with my thumb.
"I know" she replies, leaning in to my touch. This feeling, of touching her warm skin, it meant everything to me, till it didn't, not anymore.

🔸Tip: Port Maria is the largest port in the Brecei kingdom responsible for dealing with about 70% of the cargo deals of the kingdom.
