Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: Emerald

"Do it." I told him as he held a small but sharp knife in his left hand. He inhaled deeply and droped the knife on the floor.

"I can't. I won't." He stepped forward but I stepped back.

"You have a family to take care of Rumis, you have to do this, for your daughter. Richard wants me dead and only then will the war stop. That's why he sent you here, didn't he? So just do it. Besides, my people are safe now and my death is the only way to completely end this." I picked up the knife from the floor and handed it to him again. He took it with trembling hands.

"Why are you making me do this?" He asked. He clearly didn't want to show this side of his, but he did, because he trusted me.

"There is no such concept as suicide in our society remember?"

Our society. He knew what I meant by that.

"But why me?" I offered him a sad smile then.

"Take it as your punishment for leaving me alone, like you did." He was about to speak again but I didn't let him because if he talked anymore, he would convince me not to let myself get killed by him.

"Just do it."

People fall twice in their life, I had heard. First: they fall for someone and second: they fall because of someone. For me, that someone had been the same person.

Poison started spreading its roots throughout my body as I groaned in pain.

"Dying, or giving your life to the god, as we say in Islam, is not as easy as you think. It feels like a thin cloth being pulled from a tree full of planks." Her words echoed in my brain after which it stopped working. My whole body went numb from the poison and I fell to the floor. He stood there, still holding the knife which was now covered in blood, my own blood. His hand trembled violently and I somehow gathered some courage to say a few words.

"Do you remember that abandoned amusement park?" My voice came out low and hoarse. He knelt to the floor to get closer to me as if he was trying to memorize my last words in his mind. I tried to complete my sentence with what strength was left in my body.

My voice grew weaker and weaker until it dropped to a whisper. "Burry me there." I told him. "Right next to Nazira." He looked at me, pain and memories coarsed through his body as I said her name.

"Promise me, Rumis. Promise me, you will burry me there." As I said my last words until even my lips went numb, tears made their way from his eyes, down his cheeks.

"I promise" he replied in a low, husky voice as if he made that promise to himself rather than me.

As I took my last breaths, one hand on my left eye, feeling the poison running in my veins, I reminded myself of the good times. The times when we laughed together, made of fun of each other, some times even cried together, a smile lightened up my lips that had gone blue. And then, there it was. The moment I had been waiting for.

"Can you see it Rumis?" I try to say but there isn't any voice to my words anymore.
