Before the service ended, Jesse was nowhere to be found like he had slipped into his father's coffin as well. I was left in the company of his brothers, teasing each other and playing silly games, at least most of them did. Some clung to their mothers as though they would be snatched away if they didn't.
There were some relatives around who had come to say their condolences and their visit ended up dragging for far too long. At some point, in the middle of it all, I felt a hand drag me away into a little corner of the house. I folded my fist in an attempt to hit the person, but he grabbed my hand in his and spun me so that I was over his shoulder.
"A simple let's go home would be better," I said when I noticed it was Jesse.
"But I like this better." He smacked my ass.
I yelped "Don't do that."
"Don't do what?" He asked and smacked me again.
"I'm going to get back at you." I warned, "When I get down, I'm going to make sure your cheeks turn red."
"I'd pay you not to." He said so casually. I lifted my head to see where we were going exactly. "I'd hate to drop a butterfly-like yourself, so please stay still." I placed my hand on his shoulders and lifted myself just so I could shake his grip off, but he didn't budge.
"Thor?"
"Batman, baby." He was being so corny for some reason that night. He dropped me at the door of the car and opened it, ushering me inside.
"Where's the money?" I demanded and tried to keep a stern face.
He stared at me somewhat stunned "Really?" I stayed fixed. "Fine. I'll give it when we get home."
"Immediately... Immediately we got home."
"Someone is becoming impatient." He ran his finger on my lips.
"You never know when you'd go bankrupt." I took his hand off. "I'm not taking chances."
"Amelia." He called out with his deep voice. "Baby." He staggered towards me, raising my hands above my head and placing a trail of kisses on my neck "I can never, not today, not ever, go bankrupt. I can't even go 1 billion less from what I have."
I swallowed hard, "Good for you. Can we go?" He pulled away and smiled at me before opening the door and letting me in. We drove off with his security behind us and Jesse's hand never leaving my thighs. I eventually fell back and pulled off my underwear. He was more than pleased.
"Can I pull over?" He asked when he couldn't keep his eyes off me.
We had to get home, not only was I hungry, but we were going to start work tomorrow according to Joe. And I had to be prepared. "No. Not tonight."
"That's a shame. I know a great spot not very far from here." An inner voice begged me to say "Take me." But I stood my ground and watched him drive away. This time, our fingers were entwined.
We made a quick stop to get things for dinner before finally arriving home. He carried me up to the house and set me on the bed before taking off my shoes and placing a kiss on my forehead.
While he cooked, I lay on the couch in the living room and eventually fell asleep. When I did wake up, he put the food in the microwave to heat it before serving it. We ate with a purpose and in less than five minutes, we were both done, dropped the dishes, and headed to the bedroom.
By 4 am, Jesse's noise woke me. He had been in and out of bed for most of the night. And again, there he was typing away on his computer. When he noticed me, he asked "Hey Bourbon, why are you up?"
"Cause you kept jumping out." I rubbed my arm. "I couldn't sleep."
He looked up and dropped his laptop signaling to me to come sit on his lap. When I did, he wrapped me up with his body. "I'm sorry. Lots of work."
"Get some rest," I said and it sounded more like an order than a request.
"I will." But by dawn, he was gone. Leaving me wrapped in bed. There was a knock on the door and Mira pushed it open.
"Good morning ma'am." She greeted. "Hope your night was fine?"
I stopped her. "I'm not a ma'am. I'm Amelia. And my night was great. How about..."
"I hate to interrupt." A young lady with a slender figure walked through the door, no knock, no questions. "We're almost 30 minutes late."
She looked all progressional with her blue suit and big iPad. "That's what I came to tell you, ma'am. The tutor is here."
"Tutor?" I was confused.
"Jesse hired me. I train all his employees. And you are not going to receive special treatment for knowing the boss." She made a "quote" sign while saying knowing. For the first time, I felt weird. Weird about everything going on but I needed the job.
Or did I? I was pretty sure Jesse would send money to sustain my entire existence in a matter of seconds but I still felt the need to work.
"Get ready. We're going shopping." She talked like she owned the place, like she was close to Jesse and I didn't like this.
"I don't have any money with me," I whispered.
"What made you think you were paying? Jesse asked me to do this, he already paid the designer in advance." She left the room after reminding me of how much time we didn't have.
"I don't quite like her," I complained to Mira.
She smiled and bowed. "I'm sorry about my daughter, she's a difficult one."
"She's your daughter?" It was a rhetorical question to which she owed no answer but she nodded.
There's just too much going on at once, and my period just happened to be late, again. Love my life.
