The Yandere System itself was rather simple and after a few moments of researching it on my own, I was able to learn its
1. It tracked the mental state of the yanderes with a number that represented how close they were to go over the edge. The higher the number, the less likely they were to destroy the universe. Max being 100.
And vice versa, the lower the number, the more likely they were to destroy the universe. The lowest number possible is -100.
2. Depending on my actions, I can either increase or decrease that number. The system was generous and understood that punishing me for decreasing that number would make my life harder and as my life was necessary to its health, the system or rather — the universe would not punish me.
However, if I were to increase the number, the system would reward me with random items, stats, skills, etc.
3. I can copy the skills of yanderes that are registered in the system by completing certain quests.
What are quests?
They are tasks that the system has set out for me and each of them helps preserve the universe from being destroyed and the help can either be direct or indirect.
These quests could also reward me with other things such as items and weapons.
4. And last but not least, the system works as an AI of sorts. Not only is it capable of storing information but also answers questions and solves things that the human mind can't comprehend.
"Well... aren't I just one overpowered son of a bitch?" I wondered out loud.
[Correct host but it's necessary for you to become extremely powerful in case one of your yanderes ever snaps in the future. They... they are very scary.]
I could almost hear the system gulp nervously.
"Just how powerful can they be?" I asked. "Aren't they just humans who happen to have skills that the universe gave them? Can't you either just take the skills back or... I don't know, kill them if necessary?"
[Impossible. Firstly, the skills that humans acquire aren't given by the universe but rather by the Ymir Records which not only manages our universe but other universes in the multiverse as well. And if the universe were to kill them, it would also lead to the destruction of the universe because it can't directly choose whether or not someone lives. They can only influence it.]
"Such as me," I muttered.
[Such as you.]
"System, what day is it today?" I asked.
Reading the two names on the list of yanderes that were visible at the moment, I immediately recognized them.
'But weren't they a part of the main character's harem? How are they yanderes for Kory? A side villain of all people,' I sighed.
[It is the day before the new school year starts.]
"Then that means tomorrow, those sisters will be entering the academy."
Scratching my head, I got up and began taking a walk.
I had a lot of things I needed to consider and I thought that breathing in fresh air and nature would help the gears in my mind turn.
'Oh wow. This world looks identical to Earth. If it wasn't for the flying cars above me, I might've mistaken it for the same planet.'
Occasionally, I could see people on the streets using their skills for mundane things such as blowing away the leaves on their roofs or watering their plants.
I walked all the way to a park and sat down.
Without the memories of the previous inhabitant of my body, I decided to request something from the system that might seem a little suspicious but as long as I justified my reasoning, it wouldn't be an issue.
I didn't even know if it was capable of doing it but I had to try.
Information was key.
'System, is it possible for you to gather all my memories starting from the beginning of my life to my death in the future?'
I had discovered a while ago that I could communicate with the system just by thinking but as long as I wasn't intending to communicate to it, the system was unable to hear my thoughts.
How convenient.
[That's possible host. But why would you need me to do that?]
'With the universe on the line, I feel like I need as much information as possible and if I'm aware of everything that has happened in my life, I would be less likely to make a mistake with those yanderes. I need to know every interaction I've had with them. Every word they've said to me and everything I've said to them. Every action I've done. Any promises that have been made. I need to know it all.'
[Understood. Extracting the host's memories. Converting the memories into files. Directly transferring the files into the host's brain. Be wary of the pain as the influx of information is more than most humans can take as memories fade over time for a reason. But the system will protect your sanity and health. It'll just be painful. Extremely painful.]
Gripping tightly onto the wooden handle of the bench that I was sitting on at the park, I clenched my teeth.
It felt like someone had pulled out a drill and was drilling a hole into my head.
I wanted to scream but held it in.
'I should've asked the system to do this in my bedroom. I didn't think it was going to be this fucking painful!'
After a minute of excruciating pain that left my entire body sweaty, I exhaled a deep breath.
"That... let's never do that out in public again," I told the system.
I had a feeling that I would require the system to implant information into my brain in the future.
It didn't seem like removing the pain would be an option but having the ability to scream would make the process much more tolerable.
Holding in my voice was the worst part of the experience.
As I gazed into the distance, watching as couples walked around the park hand in hand, kids playing with their parents, etc., I couldn't help but sigh.
'Kory Kilefair, how the fuck did you become a side villain in the novel? You... you were practically destined for greatness. Why did you become so lazy and stop training your unique skill just because of a girl?'
Everything that has happened in the real Kory's life, starting from birth all the way to the scene in the novel where he was killed by the main character, I was aware of it all.
I understood the relationships he had with the two sisters but I couldn't help but feel a little confused.
There was nothing in the memory that hinted at them being obsessed with me.
It didn't even seem like they liked me.
How were they possibly my yanderes?
Also, the system claimed that there were more yanderes that just weren't on the list yet because I hadn't encountered them yet.
Firstly, I had no clue who these other yanderes could be.
Kory Kilefair, just like most men, had talked and interacted with plenty of people of the other gender throughout his lifetime.
However, these felt like regular interactions.
What did Kory, or rather himself, do in those years that created so many dangerous yanderes that the universe had to practically beg him for help?
I felt like clawing my hair out in frustration until I was bald.
I thought that by having all of Kory's memories, I'd be able to create a solid plan in regard to every person on the yandere list but now that seemed like an impossible dream.
Secondly, the system stated that the names that appear on the list are yanderes that I've met since acquiring the system (which would be a few hours ago when Kory was still asleep before I stole his body and woke up).
I'm now aware of everything that Kory has been doing his entire life, including the past 24 hours, and not once did I encounter the sisters.
'System, when did I meet those sisters?' I asked.
[Unsure host. The system isn't omnipotent or omnipresent. It's only capable of providing answers with the knowledge that it has visibly seen, heard, or has been made aware of by the hosts' senses.]
Wasn't the system an extension of the universe?
How was it unable to do those things then?
I wanted to make a complaint but held back because I didn't want to come off as a spoiled brat.
* * *
It was the next day when I was officially reunited with the two sisters on the list, Arisha and Yena.
I, along with the other students from years 2-5, were sitting in the bleachers of a giant arena dome where graduation, award ceremonies, and tournaments were held.
In the center with metal foldable chairs placed into organized rows were the new students.
The first-years.
Obviously, that included the two sisters.
As the headmaster got up and began making a speech, I ignored it and instead, kept my gaze and attention on the two yanderes.
'Wow... they're fucking hot,' was the first thing that came to mind.
