That special bath mother-in-law made lasted the whole 6hrs, impressive I need to remember to ask her what the heck she used because I went from being a Cub to an Young adult. I looked like I was 16yrs old at the most.
Mom pulled me along to the center of the village where the other cubs, now young adults of the village where waiting in a semi circle. All the villagers were gathered behind them, it looked like we were the last to arrive. Perfect, now there was no trying to blend in. Everyone was staring at me and whispering, the young adults couldn't take their eyes off my wings. They were noticeably bigger than all theirs as well. I tried to shrink in but mom gave a sharp yank on my arm and pushed me towards the others. She then joined my father in the front of forest.
"My clansmen, we have gathered here today to initiate the trial of life. A quest given to all Hellcat cubs who have undergone their 6th year age cycle and cleansing ceremony. Today we have a dozen of our newest brood that we have raised, including one of our own." Here he pauses and to give me an encouraging smile filled with pride. "In a few moments your quest will start and you will all set forth into the forest of Drakemere and survive off the land and beasts for a whole month. During the trial if you live, you will gain your classes and titles and will be welcomed back with open arms as new self sustaining Hellcats of the tribe. To prove your woth you will need to bring back from.the trial of life a Fox Deer. A dangerous magical beast who is as quick as they are clever and will use any trick in the book to devour you. Be warned these Fox Deerare extremly cunning and are Silver tier beasts. They know what time of the year it is as well and are no doubt expecting you. Be wary, and hunt yiur hunters and complete the trial of life!"
Hmm so no one was going to ask him what happens if we do survive the month and don't come back with a Fox Deer as proof? I wondered absentmindedly.
The moon started to rise out of the clouds behind the forest illuminating it in an eerie light. I could faintly hear the howling of the creatures deep within the forest. My father held out his arms wide and then yelled, "Take off!" I started to run with everyone else passing my father as we launched ourselves head first into Drakemere Forest.
