Chapter 10 - CHAPTER 10

Amy cried for some time and then she cleaned her eyes.

'No, I refuse to cry over that wicked and cruel man. And I will also kill this baby. That is the best I can do. If that is the only consolation I can have for myself.' She said to herself

Amy had initially planned not to go to her shop, but then she became resolved in her mind.

'No, I will not allow this to pause my life, not while he is busy living his life. I will live my life to the fullest, and I will make the best of it.' She said to herself.

She got up, wiped her tears, took her bath again, and threw the test tube into the waste bin. She dressed into her finest, and she went to her store.

She had lots of clients at the end, and they were surprised to see her.

"Wow, you look good today, Amy. What's the occasion?" One of them asked her.

"Oh, nothing. I just decided to look good today." She answered.

"That is good. Keep it up, and maybe you can see a good, handsome young man that will come after you." Another said.

Amy joined in the joke and laughed. She knew all these women were only trying to pitch her with men, but she just wasn't ready for any relationship not after what she had been through, and certainly not after what she knew she just got.

The whole day went in a blur, and everything went so peacefully. And for a time, Amy actually forgot that she had a little problem. When she was done for the day, she closed her store and walked back home.

On her way home, she remembered that she wanted to buy groceries to make dinner, so she went to the supermarket.

When she got there, she saw a crowd of people, but she went straight to the grocery section and bought what she wanted to buy. Coming out, she saw a pregnant woman. She smiled at her.

"How are you doing, ma'am?" Amy asked her.

The pregnant woman smiled at Amy.

"I'm fine. I'm good." She looked at Amy and replied.

"You look beautiful, ma'am. Pregnancy suits you well." Amy complimented her.

"Oh, thank you very much." The woman said, blushing.

Amy volunteered to pay for her groceries, and the woman was very grateful.

Amy paid for it, for the woman's groceries, and paid for her own, and she went back to her house.

When she got home, she started to make dinner. Her phone rang and she saw that it was Milo.

"Hey, Milo, how are you doing?"

"I'm fine, Amy. How are you now?"

'I'm doing okay. Did you still went to go to the hospital?"

"Oh, no, Milo. I just went to the pharmacy. Nothing's actually wrong with me. I'm stronger now." Amy said.

"Hmm. All right. I'll choose to believe you. But can I come over?"

"Oh, yes. I'm actually making dinner." Amy answered, "You can come over, and we'll talk over dinner," Amy said.

Milo was happy, and he agreed to come.

"I'll bring wine when I'm coming," H said.

"That sounds great," Amy answered.

She made the dinner. She made pasta. And by the time it was done, Milo knocked at the door.

She opened it, and he gave her the bottle of wine.

"Do come in." She said to him.

He entered, and she ushered him to the dining.

"Just sit down while I serve the food."

Milo sat down, and Amy served the food. They ate in silence. And after a while, Milo broke the silence.

"Wow! The food is delicious, Amy. You are such a good cook."

Thank you," Amy said smiling.

After they finished eating, they decided to sit down and watch some TV for some minutes before Milo would go back home.

Milo and Amy sat down to watch the TV.

Unknown to Amy, Milo was already having feelings for her, but he has not said anything.

"The movie is good, right? Hope you're enjoying it," Amy asking, looking at him.

"Yes," Milo replied smiling.

Amy turned back to look at the TV, and she suddenly felt Milo getting close to her.

When she turned to look at him, she said that he was attempting to kiss her, but she quickly turned her face away.

"What are you trying to do." She asked him.

"Trying to kiss you, of course," Milo replied.

"Oh no, Milo, please don't. I just like us being friends," Amy replied.

"But why," Milo asked. "You know I love you. I've had feelings for you for the longest time, but I've been afraid to tell you," Milo said.

"Milo, look, you are a very good friend to me and a good neighbor, and I don't want to jeopardize the friendship we share. I just don't want a relationship now," Amy answered.

"But why?" Milo asked her.

"It's complicated," she replied.

"I'm all open to hear whatever your reason is, but please just tell me. I will listen and I will not judge you," Milo said.

Amy contemplated whether or not to tell Milo the truth. After thinking for a while, she tried to be upfront with him.

"The thing is, I'm pregnant, Milo," she said.

Milo was shocked by the news.

"Pregnant? Since when? By whom," he asked her.

"I just found out today. That was why I was feeling dizzy this morning. I did a test and it showed I was pregnant. Though I'm yet to go to the hospital to confirm." Amy explained,

"So is that the reason why you don't want to be in a relationship with me?" Milo asked her.

'Yes, I am pregnant with another man's child."

"Who is responsible for the pregnancy?" Milo asked her.

'It's nobody. Somebody you don't know. And somebody I would like to forget about." Amy answered.

"Look, Amy." Melo said. "I don't care if you are pregnant with another man's child. I will gladly take responsibility for the child. I love you and that's all that matters."

She was confused. She really needed his support. But she knew that she was not ready to have a relationship.

"Look, Milo. I know you mean well for me. And I really appreciate it. But the thing is, I am not ready for a relationship. Not after what I have been through. Please, just understand."

"Fine, Amy. I understand. But one thing you should know is that I will wait for you. You can take as much time as you want. But I will always wait for you."

Amy was touched by it. And then she kissed him as he was about to leave.

'Goodbye, Melo. We'll see tomorrow." She said to him.
